Help with brushing my dog's teeth.?

Hello,

I have a new addition to our family. She is a 7 year old Husky mix. The vet told me she needs to have her teeth brushed. She had tarter buildup on her teeth. The vet cleaned them for me. But when I tried today, she would not let me. How can I train her? My last dog was already used to having his teeth brushed before I adopted him.

Help with brushing my dog's teeth.?
Well if the vet has already cleaned them that means all the tartar is already gone now all you need to do now is to PREVENT tartar and plaucque build up. It wouldn't be the best thing to brush your dogs teeth yourself because i bet you don't know how to do it professionally like the vets do it quick, simple and easy(that's not an offensive fact).

You should buy your dog DentaBones or DentaStix. They require all the extra vitamins and minerals for your dogs teeth to grow healthy and strong and the Bones and Stix also protect your dog teeth from plaque and tartar build up PLUS smelly breath. They cost around $ 3-7 for a 4 bone packet depending the size of the Bone or Stix.

Also Kong Toys are the way to go. You may know about them but if you don't they are like a toy but a toothbrush at the same time. They usually come with an attached doggy toothpaste which you insert inside the toy and when they chew on the toy it cleans their teeth while they have fun chewing and trying to root out the paste at the same time, It keeps them mentally stimulated that way also. The Kong Dental Toy is a specially designed rubber Doggy Toothbrush ( as i told you) so because its special rubber for dogs it massages the gums and feels great. The paste comes in all different Flavours like Peanut Butter, Spearmint, Peppermint, Meaty Treat and much more. All the flavours are all guaranteed to smell great inside your dogs mouth. Hope this helps you!

P.S I don't know how much the Kong toys cost.
Reply:start off first with just playing with her muzzle. do this for a few days then move onto lifting up her lip and massaging her gums. once she comes to like this you can introduce the toothbrush and just for a short amount of time rub it along her gums. once she's used to that add toothpaste, make sure it's dog approved toothpaste the human toothpaste is bad for dogs. once she's used to having her mouth handeled she will relax and it will be easier. but you're going to have to take your time introducing her to it, if you've never done it and just try to pin her down and brush her teeth she's going to associate it as a bad thing.
Reply:strange.. they didn't suggest those doggy treats that clean a dogs teeth "especially tarter"? ..or is this some thing where she can't eat right as it is?
Reply:there are soft dog brushs that go over your finger like a thimble. Easier to use. Then get a dog toothpaste.. something they like the taste of. Train in a small confined area, like your bathroom. Make it a habit.. like doing his right after your own.

Babys teeth (brushing)?

ime finding it very difficult to brush my 13 month olds teeth i can only brush them once a day its a struggle is there anybody thats been through this and any tips would be helpfull lol thanks

Babys teeth (brushing)?
Have you tried the bubble gum flavored toothpaste??

Make brushing her teeth a game. Kinda like, "Here comes the airplane or choo choo." You know your daughter best. What does she like the most? You could also give her favorite teddy or stuffed animal a tiny toothbrush and have her brush it's teeth while you brush her's.

Congrats on taking such good care of her teeth. It'll really pay off later.
Reply:Making a game out of it works sometimes. Or making a chart where you can mark how many times he/she brushes their teeth and after they get so many marks, they will get some kind of reward.
Reply:TRy getting kid-friednly toothbrushes and toothpastes. My nephew when he was one had a mouth full of teeth and he enjoys to brush his teeth.
Reply:It's interesting question... here is an article about childhood oral health, maybe you'll find answer there - http://dent.info.md/?p=12

Why do you get gas sometimes after brushing your teeth?

I find that sometimes after brushing my teeth i get gassy. I burp alot and my throat begins to hurt. This happens maybe 50% of the time when i brush, i also know that this happens to some of my friends. Does anyone know why?

Why do you get gas sometimes after brushing your teeth?
It happens because you might be ingesting air while you brush. Since the stomach has to get rid of that excess air, it either goes back out the way it came or the way everything exits.

Do you leave the water running while brushing your teeth?

For those of you who "actually" brush their teeth everyday.......

Instant results. Turning off the water between rinses can save at least two gallons in one brushing session.

Brushing a small dogs teeth?

I have a 3 month old Maltese puppy-I am told that I need to brush his teeth/get his teeth brushed. Can I do this at home? And if so any suggestions or tips??

Thank you!!

Brushing a small dogs teeth?
You can get a fingertip toothbrush or use a soft brush with a compact head or even wrap your finger in gauze or a small wash cloth. You can get meat flavored toothpaste for your dog that he may actually enjoy.

Just let him lick it the paste off the toothbrush for a few days, then touch the toothpaste/brush to his teeth for a few days, etc. Depending on just how sensitive he is to brushing you can draw out this process or get right to it.

Some people do this everyday and others even get their dog to accept electric toothbrushes.

if your puppy is prone to dental problems, there is a new dental vaccine out for dogs that you can ask your vet about.

http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles...
Reply:I have a maltese too!And yes you do need to brush its teeth...in the store there is a special toothpaste for dogs and pups...you can use a regular toothbrush or if not there is a special toothbrush for dogs and pups too...and yes you can do it at home!: )( :
Reply:I've never done it with mine.. he's five years old and he has not tartars problem.. but you have to be care of something:

Never give him sweets, nothing containing sugar!!

sometime, like one per months, buy a special bone in a pets shop, one of those done appositely for dogs, ask there.. He/she 'll bite it for a while and it'd cleans teethe in state of brushing..

I give him also bread, like one per week, a very dried and hard bread piece.. it also cleans while he tries eating it!
Reply:My vet said that its fine to brush their teeth with children's toothpaste. Like bubble gum, or strawberry flavor. Dogs don't really like the toothpaste made for them, or minty flavors. Get a kids size toothbrush.
Reply:Yes - your local pet store will have a whole section for dog dental care. Get a toothbrush with two ends - one will be small and the other will be bigger. Also get doggie toothpaste - they come in all kinds of flavors that your dog will actually like, and then also get a rubber gum cleaner - they look like rubber thimbles with little bristles on them. Brush your dog's teeth about once a week and you shouldn't have to take them to get professional cleanings (which cost hundreds of dollars). Brushing your dog's teeth is the best way to prevent any future dental issues. Things like tooth abscesses, etc can be fatal for anyone - including dogs.

Do you rinse with salt water before or after brushing your teeth?

I just got my wisdom teeth pulled three days ago and the post operative home care instructions I received does not say anything about brushing my teeth. I have just been rinsing with salt water but my breath really started to stink and I have braces so I had to start brushing as best as I could. Should I rinse with salt water before or after I brush? I hate the salt water taste and feel like it makes my breath stink horribly.

Do you rinse with salt water before or after brushing your teeth?
How does the area seem to be healing? Are you having any pain or discomfort? Are there any other symptoms along with the bad breath? The salt water is used to sooth the area. It has been three days so if the area does not feel irritated I would stop the salt water rinse. If you feel you still need the salt water it is up to your preferance whether you use it before or after brushing. Good luck!
Reply:yeah
Reply:Yuk, you need to get with the toothbrush ASAP you're not going to hurt anything unless you brush the extraction areas. The salt water is to help keep those sutures clean and help healing so I would do it after you brush. If you have a problem with the smell then it's OK to use a mouthwash, just don't rinse or spit to vigorously or you'll likely pull out a blood clot. Hope this helps.

My boyfriend doesn't like brushing his teeth before bed...???

and i don't like to kiss him when his breath smells like a mules backside... how can i get him to start brushing his teeth at night time...?? ugh...barf...

hahaha!! i love ur questions! i wud say no kisses until he brushes his teeth! ♥
Reply:Tell him no brushing = no loving!
Reply:Tony M's advice works
Reply:Dont get into bed until he has brushed. Simple as that.
Reply:I am revolted. That's a man that needs no kisses. Rule: clean men only need apply!
Reply:I wouldn't like to either! Tell him, a clean mouth means a dirty night!
Reply:I'd just come out and tell him to brush his teeth
Reply:by force
Reply:Oh man, I can't sleep unless I brush my teeth. ummm I say with hold if ya know what I mean.
Reply:EW! That's nasty! Tell him about all the things that happen to your teeth. Tell him you won't kiss him until he brushes his teeth, or show him all the answers you get for this question.....
Reply:thats gross... tell him his breath smells like sh*t...
Reply:that's just disgusting! Tell him straight up that he's a disgusting pig.
Reply:Why are you even with him, tell him if he does not brush his teeth your history. Trust me he won't ever brush them if your giving it up without the teeth being brushed. Nasty.
Reply:Don't kiss him. But you've probably told him that before....maybe he doesn't WANT you to kiss him.....hmm.....
Reply:just ask him and tell the consequences if he doesn't, TRUST me, I have been through that, or you can be polite and be mushy about it, tell him it turns you on when you both watch yourselves in the mirror brushing your teeth together.
Reply:Keep his favorite "areas" off limits untill he brushes his teeth %26amp; tell him straight up because thats nasty...and if he dont think its nasty (obviously) tell him its a pet peave %26amp; it just has to be done or else!
Reply:You can tell him he's causing harm to his mouth. All the plaque sits in his mouth all night and can lead to tooth decay or worse. Teeth should be brushed at least twice a day. At night and in the morning are the most important. He doesn't want to get dental work done I'm sure. Good hygiene is important for prevention. Bad care now equals money, pain, damage, and hassle later. I know my answer is totally different than the others. If he doesn't listen to their answers, this might help. If your discomfort isn't enough to make him want to, then at least this is reality. God Bless!
Reply:No brush = no kiss

When should you start brushing your cat's teeth?

My kitten is 14 weeks and I'm not sure if I should start brushing her teeth yet.

When should you start brushing your cat's teeth?
I would start now. You can buy the cat toothpaste at a pet store. My vet recommended using a toothbrush made for babies (human ones, that is) because they usually have really soft bristles and cover more surface area than the cat toothbrushes. I also would try brushing in very short sessions at first, the point is to get her used to it for the first few weeks. Just getting the bristles to touch the teeth will be a victory at first. Always treat afterwards.

Try doing it when she is being sleepy and lazy, slower reaction time...
Reply:You shouldn't. Feed it cat biscuits (kibble) frequently and it will be ok.
Reply:When the kitten or cat will let you, and I know with my Ben that would be the 12th of never.
Reply:When you kiss her in the mouth and you get a bad taste, then you better start brushing her teeth.

And yours as well.
Reply:as early as possible

to get them used to it
Reply:Never. Cats should be fed kibble. Taking a cat to the Vet regularly will head off any major problems, hopefully.
Reply:u dont brush your cats teeth man o man would they hate you
Reply:1 month after thier born
Reply:You start brushing the cat's teeth when it's a kitten so it will get used to it. Cat dentistry is more expensive than regular visits to the vet. Once it eats solid food is when you can start brushing its teeth. Be sure to use kitty toothpaste and not human toothpaste.

Kibble just doesn't do as good a job.
Reply:Dinubabear is absolutely right. Please don't listen to the previous misinformation that was given before him.

As a side note, a quality canned food is better as your cat as a whole.
Reply:You should start brushing them as soon as they start eating solid food. Make sure you use the appropriate type of soft toothbrush. Also never use human toothpaste! There is special animal toothpaste you can get from your vet and possibly the pet store to use. For kittens you may want to start off with just using water until they and you get the hang of it so you don't get it everywhere. It really will save your kitties dental problems in the future.
Reply:You can start any day. They make flavored tooth paste for animals that can help. Don't use human tooth paste! But you don't have to use any tooth paste at all the brush will do a good job if you start this young.
Reply:The sooner you start, the quicker she will get used to the idea. Do it every day.
Reply:i would begin doing it now and do it about once a week

Do u clean ur tongue after brushing your teeth?

70% of bacterian that causes bad breath is found on the tongue. Cleaning your tongue after brushing refreshes ur mouth like nothing else. If i dont clean my tongue in the morning after brushing my teeth it feels really awkward.

Why would someone just suddenly stop brushing their teeth?

My sister moved in with me about 3 years ago, she's always been a very clean person and very hygenically concious.

She has completely stopped brushing her teeth, we share a bathroom in my apartment, her toothbrush hasn't moved off the side of the sink in over a month, her toothpaste hasn't been used and hans't moved from it's place in the cabinet. I haven't said anything to her about it, I'm curious to see just how long she'll go before brushing.

Why would someone just suddenly stop brushing their teeth?
odd question! i have a good friend who also quit. about 2 years ago. don't think she has brushed much since. her teeth are now half black and rotting at the roots. she has an awesome personality and is a very close friend. but because of this, i am a little embarrassed to invite her to big functions (such as my wedding) because i really don't want that grill in my wedding pictures, as selfish and mean as that may sound. i have no idea why she quit, but i think it's yucky. and will cost her thousands to fix, if she chooses to later on. no clue, i have wondered the same thing! what the heck? i think it's gross if i don't brush until noon on a lazy day!
Reply:There is no possible excuse for her to stop brushing her teeth especially if you admitted that she always cares about her personal hygene.
Reply:maybe she uses something else :-)

Cheers,

Reply:I dunno, maybe she's just lazy.

My advice would be to just ask her.

Why would someone just suddenly stop brushing their teeth?
I concur with some of the other answers, DEPRESSION is the major cause of lack of hygiene. My own sister lived w/ me for several months when I asked her about where she kept her toothbrush. She said she didn't have one. I couldn't believe it, since I had tons. She said she hadn't brushed for lots longer before she'd moved in. She sufffers from major depression. Hygiene is one of the symptoms
Reply:Could she possibly have a toothbrush and paste in a purse and taking care of her oral hygiene once she's at work or school. Eliminate the guess work just ask her.
Reply:When one has a severe change in personal hygiene issues then it could be a sign of depression. Or she's just gross.
Reply:Maybe she just doesnt want to anymore, or theres a reason for her not brushing her teeth such as her teeth being sensitive to cold water, or she might have sensitive gums.
Reply:Perhaps something hurts her? Or she uses your toothpaste/ Ask her...
Reply:sudden changes in caracter and lack of interest in hygiene can be a sign of depression. Or it could just mean that she brushes elsewhere. Is her breath horrible, are her teeth gross?
Reply:Is she depressed? Sometimes people who are depressed have a tendency of letting themselves go. Or just laziness? Instead of bugging her about it, maybe comment about her breath. Maybe that will make her self-conscience enough to start. Thats pretty gross, her teeth, her dental bills..
Reply:A couple of reasons she could have dental problems and brushing them hurts especially the gums. She may need to be checked out by a dentist.

Or there could be something in the toothpaste that maybe making her ill.

Does she rinse with anykind of mouth rinse?

You may need to say something she maybe embarrased if she doesn't have dental insurance and doesn't know how to get help. There are dental schools that help with dental problems as they are work on patients for a minimal fee.

I hope she is ok.
Reply:Why would you wait to ask her? I would simply say "I noticed you aren't using your toothbrush." See what her reply is. Not brushing your teeth is not only disgusting, but it will lead to tooth decay and gingivitis If she has always kept her hygiene up...there is no reason why she would just stop brushing her teeth
Reply:...is she a robot?
Reply:There's only one way to find out. ASK her. Or an expert guesser, i.e., a doctor.
Reply:OK just go to the store and get identical types of toothbrushes and bring them home one day and be like, "hey, I bought us new toothbrushes" (buy those colgate 360 or something cool like that) and just tell her you thought they looked cool and wanted to try them. Then see if she uses it. Go from there. If she still doesn't brush her teeth, then you need to be a sis and just blurt it out:'What;s up with you not brushing ur teeth??"

Sometimes ppl need a good nudge b4 they realize they ned to change habits..........

My teeth are in very bad condition, but if cavities don't stop getting worse, than why should i start brushing

My teeth are in very bad condition, but if cavities don't stop getting worse, than why should i start brushing my teeth now ?

If theres decay and cavities, then brushing my teeth wont matter than will it ?

My teeth are in very bad condition, but if cavities don't stop getting worse, than why should i start brushing
You should start brushing if you like having teeth.
Reply:Yes, it will.

If you started to brush now, it would slow and prevent further cavities from developing.

Additionally, in most cases cavities don't just "stop getting worse". Especially if you don't brush
Reply:There are many components to brushing your teeth. To keep it simple, I will asuume you want to look nice, and not offend people with your breath or your yellow teeth. You need to see a dentist regularly, and put in the effort of brushing and flossing regularly. It really takes very little time. Maybe as much as you spent here posting this question. Your dental health is also tied closely to your general health and you risk heart disease and other infections from diseased teeth, as well as gum disease, bleeding gums and eventual tooth loss. Fix the cavities you have now and begin regular dental visits and you will slow the cavity process and begin to notice better dental health....
Reply:why would you not brush your teeth..?

is every single tooth in your mouth a cavity or have decay?

brushing your teeth is good hygene.. and it prevents other caviities from getting worse.. but cavities are basically from the foods you eat... which is why you brush it off.. so you dont get cavities.

you should really take care of your teeth and if you dont brush it will build up bactiera which gives you horrrible breath.

pleasee tell me this is a hypothetical question and you actually brush your teeth.
Reply:David,,,brushing with floride toothpaste is good to slow decay,,,,stop eating foods high in carbs, sugars and salts (as these foods will speed up the decay process). And most of all,,,FOR GOD SAKE,,go to the dentist and get your teeth problems under control. If you can't afford it,,,google 'freedentist',,and you will be able to find out about places that will do low cost or even free dentistry (depending on your situation).

they are called 'dental camps'.....and the wait is ussually very long,,,so hurry and get on a waiting list,,,or borrow some money and have your dental problems fixed,,,befor you have to grind all your food to eat.

Best of luck!
Reply:Brushing will prevent other teeth from getting cavities and prevent cavities from getting worse. Also using Listerine will help your teeth to get stronger and prevent more damage.

Reply:I had a friend who thought her teeth were too bad to put right too. You'll be surprised, visit the dentist and get some treatment, continue to do what you can to help stop further damage. You need to gently brush your gums too to stop gum disease and stimulate blood flow to the gums.

I don't know whether you have free treatment in your country, in the UK we are lucky if your not working you can get treatment. Try to find out if you have any dentisits who treat those on lower incomes, sometimes they have a special practice where you can go on certain days of the week/evening etc.

Good luck mate, don't give up on your teeth altogether!

When do you start brushing childrens teeth?

My son is 6 months old and has his first teeth, when should I start brushing them?

When do you start brushing childrens teeth?
You should start brushing them NOW. Brush teeth as soon as they appear. You can use a soft, wet cloth to wipe them over but you might as well get him used to the toothbrush now. The sooner it is introduced the better.
Reply:Well, u should be rubbing his gums and tooth now with a washcloth. Gerber had this little plastic thing u put over your finger and it acts like a gentle toothbrush for babies. It's pretty neat.
Reply:It's just as important that the gums get a clean so start now with a soft clean cloth and work up to letting him/ her chew and play with a soft baby's brush until he/ she is used to it.
Reply:You should start even before they have teeth. The make special gum brushes
Reply:Now! At least twice a day with baby toothbrush (extra soft) and non flouride toothpaste. Do not use regular paste untill he can spit it out thouroughly.
Reply:The key to establishing good brushing habits is starting an oral care program early . In fact, the American Dental Association suggests that you begin cleaning your baby's mouth the first few days after birth.

Please send me the 10 points ?!
Reply:when there 2 yrs old because of the tooth paste. but u can brush with warm water. the tooth paste has like a lot of sodium in it. and regardless of the tooth paste children or adult. just brush with warm water until he turns about 2 yrs old and get children tooth paste. That's what i did my son. And his teeth are so pretty.
Reply:The day the first tooth appears. Also, the first trip to the dentist needs to be soon, and every six months after. Starting now will ensure no problems later down the road with fear of the dentist.

Good luck~
Reply:Now. Look for a "baby toothbrush trainer kit" that will be in the drugstore with all the other baby stuff, like pacifiers, etc. Just follow the schedule printed on the package.

What you feed your child and when is FAR more important than toothbrushing, but it is a good idea to start the toothbrushing so he will never know any different.

Like Scope and stuff, but if I brush my teeth after using mouthwash, wouldn't I wash away the mouthwash, plus do I rinse my mouth with water after brushing my teeth or just spit out the residue??

Do you use mouthwash before or after brushing your teeth?
i brush my teeth then rinse the toothpaste out with water then floss then use the mouthwash.
Reply:i use mouthwash after i brush and i rinse my mouth with water...
Reply:i use before-i swish then spit then brush-
Reply:Mouthwash like Listerine helps loosen plaque, so it is better to rinse prior to brushing!

Reply:ummm... After.
Reply:I don't think you really lose by "washing away" the mouthwash in either situation
Reply:I used mouthwash after brushing the teeth, also when you feel your mouth smell funny ... ;)

Brushing a kitten's teeth?

Hi,

I know dental health is really important for cats, so I'm trying to get my new kitten (10 weeks) into the habit of having his teeth brush. So far we've tried the suggestions on the package (and on other websites), where you get them used to the taste by using your finger, and then progress to the brush.

He likes the taste, but I can't get him to actually open up his mouth (lol I don't blame the little guy though), and I don't want him to get scared of the toothbrush either by forcing anything. I was just wondering if anyone else has trained their cats to have their teeth brushed, and if they could let me know how it went for them.

Thanks!!

I could never get my cat to enjoy the toothbrush, but she always loved the enzymatic toothpaste that is specialized for her. This may be as good as it gets for some cat owners.
Reply:there is a product called suzies tartar most pet stores have it or i think you can get it online.. just get it and it keeps the teeth clean by itself all you do is add it to the water..
Reply:I generally have to hold open my kitty's teeth, and then I gently brush for about 10 seconds, very gently so as not to harm the gums. All you want to do is get off all the food stuck in their teeth. Bad teeth and infections can lead to very bad health problems, so it's a good idea to get your kitty used to brushing. It can be a simple procedure, you may need to start with just a few teeth as your kitty gets used to it. Cats are cats, so you won't ever train one to run up to you and beg for it, but you can give a treat that won't harm the teeth afterward (maybe a dental snack, as long as it doesnt get stuck!), or just explain what you are doing and cuddle. Good luck! My cat's teeth have remained great since I have been brushing, despite the vet suggesting she may need several teeth removed following a cleaning she received about two years ago.

PS, it is more important to brush their teeth than get the toothpaste on there -- you need to remove the built up gunk and food that causes the problem. Toothpaste sitting there WITH the gunk, does no good and may cause it's own problems.
Reply:If you find a way to have them like the toothbrush....let me know :) It's not that important to 'brush' their teeth; it's more important to get the toothpaste on their teeth and gumline. From there the toothpaste will disolve some tartar (I say some b/c it won't take it all). So if you can just get the paste on there with ur finger, it's just as good. Good luck.
Reply:My cat also hates the toothbrush, he clenches his teeth shut. What I do sometimes is lift open his lips and brush the side of his teeth that way, he'll never open up his mouth willingly. I do use the dentabites (i think that's what they're called) treats, they come in a silver bag with green letters. The last time I took my cat to the vet, he said the cat has very nice and clean teeth.

Help brushing toddlers teeth? It's impossible!!?

My little girl is almost 17 months old and hates having her teeth brushed. She will clamp her mouth shut and fight us all the way. We have tried all kinds of baby toothbrushes and about 4 different kinds of toothpaste including using no toothpaste. We are so afraid she is going to get cavities from not getting brushed properly, she does get almost no sugar and only drinks breastmilk and water so I know that part is fine, but we just worry about food residue.

Trying to brush her teeth produces the same result as trying to give a cat a bath, it is just screeching and fur flying!! Ha ha

Help please before our little girl needs dentures!!

Help brushing toddlers teeth? It's impossible!!?
I let my 2 year old brush my teeth if she lets me brush hers. She loves it.
Reply:hmmmm hold her mouth open it may hurt but she u need to!!!
Reply:I am singing "this is the way to brush my teeth" while I brush my son's teeth, and tickle his tongue with the toothbrush, he loves it.
Reply:Hey, I dont have enough points up to vote so i'll just say I like Stephanie W's answer of you letting your daughter brush your teeth and then you brush hers. I will be trying that when my daughter has teeth.
Reply:My daughter is only 10 months and her teeth are finally far enough out that we should be brushing. We've given her a toothbrush to play with. That's allowed her to become familiar with it. She still won't let us brush them, but we can get it into her mouth and wriggle it. One step at a time...

If she has a favourite toy, let her choose a toothbrush for it, then go through the whole routine. "It's bedtime, so teddy needs his teeth brushed! You brush his teeth and I'll brush your teeth." Encourage her to brush teddy's teeth very regularly. It wouldn't be nice to make nasty comments to your daughter, but feel free to tell teddy that he is yukky if he doesn't brush his teeth! Sometimes letting them watch you brush yours, or letting them watch themselves in the mirror will help.
Reply:I GOT MY SON AN ELECTRIC TOOTH BRUSH

WITH SPIDER MAN ON IT. I PUT WATER ON IT AND SOMETIMES A LITTEL TOOTH PASTE AND LET HIM PLAY WITH IT FOR 2 MINUTES!! HE PUT EVERYTHING IN HIS MOUTH! FIRST SHOW HER THAT THE BRUSH TICKLES YOUR TONGE!

GET ONE FOR YOURSELF SO SHE CAN SEE!

"LOOK MOMMY IS BRUSHING HER TEETH"!!
Reply:i used to put my finger between my daughter's teeth to brush them. i cant do that now or she bites me and it hurts!! that would be my solution for u.
Reply:My daughter used to fight me on this too, until I started letting her do it herself. I am sure she is not as thorough as I could be with brushing, but at least it is getting done. And they do learn faster about how to brush their teeth if you brush yours at the same time :)
Reply:Have you taken her to the store to pick out the toothbrush and the toothpaste? that worked with my son, now I worry he gets too much toothpaste, he brushes so many times a day. If that dosn't work, don't stress, it will pass!
Reply:We had this with my now 4 yr old. She hated getting her teeth brushed. Try the You brush mine and I'll brush yours. Try the sugar monkeys trick. " OH NO! You have sugar monkeys jumping around in there. . (hold up mirror) SEE??? Let me get them. This might tickle etc...."

Or

Bug/ants/spiders etc... My daughter liked all the previous but the sugar monkeys were the best. She would open her mouth to see and I was able to cajole her all the way through the toothbrushing.

Even though you are breastfeeding and do not give sugary snacks/drinks she still gets sugar through other foods. Cavaties and dental carries are still a problem.

Good luck getting her to show you those pearly whites!
Reply:Use two toothbrushes at once- one for her to use and the other for you. Also lots of praise/cuddles when she does let them be brushed, and sing silly brush your teeth songs while your doing it!
Reply:whip her little a**, she needs to learn respect for you now. not cruelty at all, it's a health issue.

On Sunday, when I was brushing my teeth, I noticed blood everywhere?

I wasn't brushing too hard, so I don't understand.

Also, I brush my teeth EVERY Sunday, whether I need to or not!

What is going on?

On Sunday, when I was brushing my teeth, I noticed blood everywhere?
Ha Ha Ha!!! Very funny.
Reply:Maybe you should start brushing your teeth more
Reply:You always need to brush your teeth everyday. What this bleeding is is your gums, and you're showing one of the main symptoms of gingivitis. Go see your dentist.
Reply:um...brush your teeth more than once a week maybe??? your gums sound like they may be infected with gum disease
Reply:Don't worry. Your teeth are OK, but your gums are about to fall out.
Reply:um....

talk to a dentist.
Reply:You need to go see the dentist. Sounds like you might be starting gingivitis. Also you need to start brushing every day and flossing as well as using a water pik with listerine in it. Call your dentist and get seen and go buy a water pik and some listerine pronto.

Reply:you might be brushing too hard on one day and easy the next causing your gums to be really sensitive

a dentist should be able to answer your question
Reply:HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

Although, FYI - your gums can bleed when you go through hormonal patches (e.g if you hit puberty or menopause). Obviously, bleeding gums could also mean gum disease - floss more! Or, just that your gums are senstive and you need to brush and floss more - twice a day for 2 minutes!!
Reply:OK 1st..you DO need to brush your teeth every sunday, as well as every other day 3 times a day. You many have gingivitis, that causes bleeding! Use listerine every time you brush, eat a lot of fruits and dairy and make sure you buy a soft toothbrush.
Reply:You should brush your teeth at least twice a day...
Reply:sounds like you were too rough with the toothbrush you may need a new brush or you might have something wrong with your gums. you need to see the dentist
Reply:u just brush on sundays?? anyway u mite have gingvites how ever u spell dat but yea just kept brushin it will clear up also try flossin
Reply:every Sunday? never mind they say it's bad blood which has ot go out!
Reply:Your just gonna have to brush then Saturday as well! remember you only need to brush the teeth you want to keep!!! lol
Reply:try changing yr teeth brushing day to tuesday
Reply:EVERY sunday.... I hope your brushing your teeth twice a day EVERY day
Reply:I brush my teeth everyday. Two times a day. Sometimes even four times a day. Depending on if I want to brush them or not. You should use the soft brush. My dentist said no matter how old you are everyone should be using a soft bristle brush. So I think you should try changing it to a soft bristle brush. Hopefully that helps! Good luck!
Reply:hi

well sometimes its hard to say whats goin on but i will tell you a family secret

TAke some baking soda and Salt mix them in equal quantity and with fingers massage it all over the mouth and let it stay on teeth for 1 minute.2nd try to brush daily if you think that too much brusing causing bleeding so avoid brush and use finger. Also use Colage gel toothpaste its toothpaste + mouthwash it will protect teeth.

if you feel pain in gums put 1 clove in your mouth between the teeth.it will definitely help

have a good one
Reply:If you just brush your teeth on Sunday then it's because you don't brush enough. My teeth bleed too when i sometimes brush my teeth. I think it's because your brushing to long. Or the bristle's are too hard.
Reply:You are supposed to brush your teeth at least TWICE every DAY, not every week.

See the dentist.
Reply:It's OK .... the bleeding will stop when you hit puberty...
Reply:You need to brush you teeth twice a day and floss. The bleeding is gum disease. Go see a dental hygienist!
Reply:As long as you brush your teeth every day, twice a day and also floss, you shouldn't have too many gum problems. If you are already doing this, then try using a chlorhexadine-based mouthwash, which will help your gums. But maybe the best thing to do is visit a dentist to get them checked.
Reply:try listerine (%26amp; brushing your teeth twice a day perhaps)

What are the different Methods of Brushing your teeth?

I'm not asking how to brush your teeth, but the terms dentists use in regards to the different methods used in the brushing of teeth. If a website could be provided that would be great, I wasn't able to really find anything.

What are the different Methods of Brushing your teeth?
The modified bass is the current accepted technique for brushing one's teeth. Other previous methods were: Bass, Fones, Modified Stillman, and others. Here is a website: http://www.drbunn.com/brushing.htm
Reply:up and down for two minuits. Get all the teethand its a good idea to get the plaque mouthwash to show you where the plaque is.
Reply:I brush in four quadrants starting in the lower left and ending in the upper right while making sure I get both sides of the teeth.
Reply:The colgate toothpaste people have a web site showing you the proper way to brush. Small circular motion. You have to brush 2 minutes total, 1 min on the top 1 min on the bottom teeth. That is the only real proper way to brush.

Gums bleeding without brushing your teeth?

If your gums are bleeding and bleeding persists after brushing your teeth throughout the day. What is that called? What causes it and what would one do about it.

Gums bleeding without brushing your teeth?
you may have gingivitis.

see a dentist :(
Reply:you can do a scaling and the reason for bleeding could be gingivitis. The best optinon would be to consult a dentist. Do dental flossing, mouth rinses for temporary relief.
Reply:You have gingivitis....... You need to get to a dentist. I am a dental assistant. Gingivitis is caused from the bacteria from your mouth. Hope that helps you.

Any ideas on how to get a 3 year old to brush her teeth or assist her in brushing her teeth? She has had some?

dental issues due to perscription antibiotics for an ear infection when she was a baby. I only let her have water after i brush her teeth, no candy, and i also try to substitute sugar free whenever possible, but my trouble is in brushing her teeth. She clenches them closed, refusing to allow me to brush anything but her front teeth. I have tried time outs for not cooperating and I have tried special incentives for good behavior, nothing seems to work.... Please anyone with ideas I would love to hear them. Thursday I have to spend close to 900.00 to repair molars, I can't afford much more so I need to try preventative maintenence, but how??????????????????????????

Any ideas on how to get a 3 year old to brush her teeth or assist her in brushing her teeth? She has had some?
Make it fun... bring her to the store and let her pick out her own tooth brush and paste. I agree that you should let her try brushing your teeth, but also let her brush her own. Why don't you make a habit of brushing them together? And sing a song while doing it, or play her fave song on a radio nearby. Brushing should last two minutes, which may seem like an eternity to her, the song will distract her. Or try "dress up", (but in a dental way) buy latex gloves and brush your teeth with them on, she may like to pretend she's a dentist. Kids LOVE those gloves. Most of all be creative and fun, she will like to play a brushing game. (and when you're all done, brag on what a big girl and good brusher she is, don't ever say anything negative even if she didn't do a good job.)
Reply:Let her help to brush yours, she sees mommy doing it, she may want to copy. Or have a family tooth brush time, bring everyone into the bathroom at the same time to brush teeth, it may get crowded, but again "monkey see, monkey do!"
Reply:Have you tried flavored toothpaste, like bubble gum aquafresh
Reply:Try getting her a fun tooth brush and tooth paste . I Don't know what they have for girls but for my son we got him a power ranger tooth brush and tooth paste and it worked like a charm . They have all kinds of neat thing out thier .Good Luck
Reply:Tell her, the dentist will wire her mouth open!
Reply:We give out and also use for our kids these little finger brushes. They fit snuggly on your, (the parents), pointer finger and have a tiny soft brush head. Since its on your finger you have the tactile sensation and you can tell that you are not hurting them I just gave out my last one today. You have to do it consistently twice a day. Eventually they will want to do it themselves. Then ya know its time to get them their own brush. You really need to brush your kids teeth for them from 9months to 6 yrs. old, Regaurdless of weather they try to brush their own teeth because they lack the dexterity. After 6 yrs they lack the motivation. Be sure to start them with Gel, not paste. Gel comes in flavors and kids like it more.
Reply:I AM A DENTAL ASSISTANT AND I SEE THIS KIND OF BEHAVIOR FROM KIDS ALL THE TIME FOR SOME REASON KIDS ARE VERY APREHENSIVE. THE BEST ADVISE I WOULD GIVE TO YOU IS TO MAKE IT FUN FOR YOUR CHILD FROM THE VERY BEGINNING,EVEN IF YOUR CHILD IS BARELY STARTING TO GROW HIS FIRST TOOTH JUST HAND THEM A TOOTH BRUSH AND LET THEM BECOME FAMILAR WITH IT.FOR YOUR CHILD TO KNOW THAT ITS OKAY. WHENEVER YOU SEE YOUR CHILD GROWING IN MORE TEETH ASSIST THEM EVERY MORNING AND EVERY NIGHT IT ONLY TAKES FIVE MINUTES OF YOU TIME AND WILL SAVE YOU FROM A VERY GOOD DENTAL BILL IN THE FUTURE. MAKE SURE YOU NOT ONLY BRUSH THE TEETH BUT ALSO ON AND AROUND ON THE GUMS AND THEY ARE NEVER TO EARLY TO START FLOSSING THAT IS VERY IMPORTANT,CAVATIES CAN ALSO DECAY IN BETWEEN. SO JUST MAKE A PLUS FOR YOUR CHILD AND STRESS IT TO THEM THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Reply:2 things work with children that age....I have a 4 year old and its working with me. First I sit down while I brush my teeth and we do it together. She loves to copy me. We don't rush, we just sit together on my bed. The second is telling her that in order for her to be a big girl and keep her big girl teeth (that will be coming in soon) is to brush her teeth really well. Playing the "big girl" card always works for us!!!
Reply:Make brushing into a game. This also works with them picking up their toys. Just find fun and creative ways. Hope this helps.
Reply:Barney's gonna get ya!

I was brushing my teeth and....green?

So you know how you have the blue veins under your tongue? Well I noticed after I rinsed after brushing my teeth I had what looks like a vein under my tongue, not on the underside but that squishy part on the bottom of my mouth. It is green, not blue, it wasnt there before and it is only on 1 side, I have never seen this before so i know that it is new cause I am a freak about my dental hygiene....any clues what it may be?

I was brushing my teeth and....green?
Could be the Sublingual gland, one of the salivary glands.
Reply:i really dont know but i think it should be normal and if it dosnt move hurt or anything then your good if it does start hurting or something just go to the dentist
Reply:its most likly a gland but pay a visit your dentist just incase

Brushing my dogs teeth?

Hello all,

I recently took my dog to the vet for a annual check up. My dog is 1yr and 4months old. And the vet told me that he needs his teeth cleaned like once a week. He cleaned my dogs teeth while we were there. But my dog won't let me clean his teeth with a tooth brush. I tried giving him genaric doggie bones that clean there teeth and freshens there breath. They don't work. And I don't want to spend a bundle for the vet to clean them weekly. So is there a way I can clean his teeth and freshen his breath? Or is there a good brand of doggie treats that I can give him? Sorry it's so long, but thanks for reading! :)

Brushing my dogs teeth?
Get doggy tooth paste and a doggy tooth brush. YOU are the boss, not the dog. Nothing takes the place of brushing. My dogs teeth get brushed three times a week and he has a cleaning once a year. Poor dental health will lead to other health problems. Heart disease, kidney failure...
Reply:i think go to your local pet store ask the salesperson if they have any dog things or treats to clean their teeth thanks!
Reply:you can buy doggie toothbrushes and toothpaste at wal-mart. they are beef flavored so my dogs love getting their teeth brushed.
Reply:Any hard bones will do the trick. If you don't feed him soft foods, there is no need to have his teeth cleaned, ever. I have my dog's teeth yearly because bad teeth can have a negative effect on his sniffing ability as a detection dog. I think your vet is just looking to make some extra money. Oh, a proper tooth cleaning does not happen while you are standing at the vet's office. It requires blood work, anesthesia and a lot of scaling. A lot like out teeth, except the dog is asleep.
Reply:Tricky one. Maybe the vet could do it because your dog was high up on a table, bit nervous. Try that.
Reply:you know those Oral-B Brush-Ups? well ive heard that you can use them on your dog if you wash off most of the minty flavor and cover them with doggie tooth paste. if your dog will let you put your finger in his mouth...you shouldnt have problems. good luck :)!
Reply:You do not need to clean you dog's teeth once a week. I do not know why your vet would tell you that. However, if you feel you need to clean them and want to take him somewher, you can go to a dog groomer and they can brush his teeth with the proper dog paste. You can also take him to the grooming department at PetCo or Pet Smart.
Reply:get doggie tooth paste you can get different flavors like beef, chicken , veggie ect .. what ever the dog likes. and when ever you clean his teeth give him aa treat .. and in a couple weeks when you go to brush his teeth when he sees you with that tooth brush hes gonna be thinking ( TREATS !! ) ..
Reply:well this may not sound like a good answer but i think u would probably have to take him to a vet every week or every two weeks thats about all i can think about...maybe this will help...
Reply:nylabones clean the plaque off teeth. You can get them at any petstore.

I still think you should try brushing your dog's teeth though. I got my dog a finger brush and poultry flavoured toothpaste. You could build up to it, put a little toothpaste on your fingers, and put it in his mouth, just get your dog used to a finger in his mouth. Start with the front teeth and work back. Then get the fingerbrush and introduce it in the same way. It may take some time but it will be better for your dog in the long run- it will save alot of money.

Make sure you know that greenies have caused fatalities with some dogs- especially if the wrong size is used. So be careful with those. I use IAMS dental chews with my dog sometimes.
Reply:My pet pomeranian has the exact same problem as your pup!I was advised by my vet to buy one of those doggie toothbrush %26amp; I got it from a pet store. It looks exactly like a baby's toothbrush with soft bristles except that on its end its a hollow end %26amp; I stick my index finger in so that I can easily insert the brush in to brush his teeth. And also my vet advised me to wet the toothbrush then dip the doggy toothbrush into bicarbonate of soda (i think its baking soda) and then brush his teeth with it. So far it has been bliss.

p.s a word of caution DO NOT USE HUMAN TOOTHPASTE on your dog as they are allergic to it and will suffer a heart attack.
Reply:You won't be needing toothbrushes and toothpaste yet.

1. Pull his lips open with your fingers and if he doesn't fuss reward him. If he does, try again later when he's in a better mood. Try several times each day.

2. The next day, rub his teeth with your fingers. Again, reward him if he doesn't fuss.

3. The day after that, do the same thing but put a little toothpaste on your finger.

4. Next, try to use the toothbrush instead of your finger. Reward.

If you follow this advice, your dog should love the toothbrush/toothpaste. It even comes in flavors like poultry! Yum!

Like one answerer said, bones like Nylabone do the trick. They get tarter off because dogs chew on it hard.
Reply:My dog LOVES to get her teeth brushed with a tooth brush. If your dog hates getting its teeth washed then just do this:

Step 1: put some gloves on and hold your dogs head.

Step 2: Take your dogs tooth brush and put a doggy biscuit flavor on it.

Step 3: Put child tooth paste that's swallow safe on the tooth brush.

Step 4: Brush your dogs teeth VERY gently, make sure that you don't get the gums and you may wanna use a soft, child tooth brush.

Your dogs breath won't smell good at all.

No matter how hard you try with making your dogs breath smell good, you might never really get it smelling good unless you brush your dogs teeth each day. Remember that a dogs breath is naturally smelly.

Hope this helps!

Cheers, Seeka

P.S. Seeka is my name.
Reply:if your dog don't like the stick of the toothbrush stuck in his mouth, they sell those things you can put on your fingertip to finger brush your dog's teeth...at Petco, PetSmart or other pet supply stores...that'll whiten them on the outside of the teeth...that job's done..now to clean in between his teeth, don't buy the doggy bone fresheners, but "greenies"...they're sold at the above named stores, and they come in little bones or wafer type biscuits...my dogs love them, and yes, their teeth are nice and healthy.. :)...they're the top sellers
Reply:Can you try to gradually desensitize your dog to the toothbrush? Smear the brush in cream cheese and let him lick it off. Give him lots of treats for allowing you to hold his mouth and hold the brush next to him - ideally, you're not ever forcing him to do anything - he's getting paid for letting you do these things, so he learns to look forward to tooth brushing time.

I know those so-called dental treats don't work. You could look into feeding your dog raw chicken wings a few times a week - the bones will clean his teeth. Be careful - raw does not digest at the same rate as kibble and regular dog food, so you *don't* want to combine the 2 things! Your poor dog would have major stomach drama.

Dr. Pitcairn's book explains how to do it:

http://www.dogwise.com/itemdetails.cfm?I...
Reply:well there is one brand of dog treats that i use on my dogs it is called greenies you can find them at petsmart they work really well on my dogs.
Reply:well most pet stores have specific toothbrush and paste for them, your dog have to get used to it so praise everytime he sits still and lets you brush him. this paste they can swallow so you dont have to worry about that. just dont give him too much. If this fails, then give him a teeth cleaning chew toy, you will find them listed as "greenies" or any teeth cleaning "gnawing" treats or toys. they have them build for this purpose.

good luck on your dog
Reply:I know you've got alto of long answers to read but ill keep the Taiping to a minimum. OK well my friend has a puppy sheet-Si Bic hon mix and sometimes i go to her puppy classes or the vet with her and her trainer and vet said that brushing your dogs teeth can increase their lives up to 2 or 3 years. Its very important to brush their teeth.I have THE SAME PROBLEM with my 3 yer old fawn boxer. He has sensitive bowl es(stomach) so we cant give him most dog foods and most treats and no tooth paste or human food(although he LOVES CREAM CHEESE NOT PE NUT BUTTER AS MUCH)but we bought him a doggier tooth brush at the pet store and he hates the normal tooth brush with the handle on it(he gets scared and of it) so we got him this other king of toothbrush. Its a small rubber one you put on your finger wick is good because its softer and less intimidating. There is also these thing we giver him be case we cant use the doggier toothpaste on him.Their called"Greene's" and this a green, mint flavored bone that you could give to him before you brush so his mouth smell nice too. There is also doggier mints (my cousins use them on their dogs) you could give him those. We just cant give them to my dog it will make him very sick.Sr for the long message!!!hope this finds you well.!!!!!

Why does brushing my teeth make me want to vomit?

After brushing my teeth, I often get sick to my stomach and feel like throwing up. I'm very careful not to swallow the toothpaste. I've experimented using different brands of toothpaste, and while some are better than others, I still get these feelings. Do you have this problem? Do you know what causes it? Is this unusual?

Why does brushing my teeth make me want to vomit?
Some of us just have more sensitive gag reflexes than others. This can run in families. My mother used to gag whenever she brushed her teeth for more than a minute, and I'm just the same.

It's helped to use a very tiny amount of toothpaste, and focus most of my brushing on my front teeth, then do the back teeth as quickly as I can. It also helps to breathe through your nose instead of your mouth while brushing.

Your dentist might be able to give you some more tips.

Hope this helps.
Reply:Youre prob reaching too far back in the throat. Swallowing toothpaste never hurt anyone tho. You just have a high gag reflex....discuss it with your dentist, but theres prob nothing you can do about it.
Reply:If it's not the toothpaste, it's probably your gag reflex.

It's probably really sensitive.

Or a common ingredient in toothpaste that's making you feel sick.

Go talk to your ortho about it.
Reply:I think you should try using a toothbrush rather than the Toilet Brush lol

Sorry I couldn't resist

Help...After brushing my teeth after an hour, my breath goes bad again?

After brushing my teeth well after an hour, my breath goes bad again? And when I use a mouthwash, although it does well for approximately two hours, my breath stinks again. I don't even smoke.

What seems to be the problem? What should I do to avoid bad breath permanently?

Help...After brushing my teeth after an hour, my breath goes bad again?
remember to brush your tongue as far back as you can comfortably. most bad breath bacteria is found far back on the tongue.

you may also have halitosis, which is caused by sour stomach acids, and can be induced by what you eat. you would have to see a doctor or nutritionist for that.
Reply:listerine %26amp; altoids
Reply:Try using Peroxcyle (spelling is wrong i think) it is mouth wash. You may have a gum infection even if your gums are not painful. You can get it at any drug store. This worked for me, sometimes it didn't even take a whole hour for my breath to go bad. Try to breath threw your nose as much as possible so you mouth doesn't get dryed out.
Reply:Bad breath, also known as halitosis, is breath that has an unpleasant odor. This odor can strike periodically or be persistent, depending on the cause. In many people, the millions of bacteria that live in the mouth (particularly on the back of the tongue) are the primary causes of bad breath. The mouth's warm, moist conditions make an ideal environment for these bacteria to grow. Most bad breath is caused by something in the mouth.

Some types of bad breath, such as "morning mouth," are considered to be fairly normal, and they usually are not health concerns. The "morning mouth" type of bad breath occurs because the saliva that regularly washes away decaying food and odors during the daytime diminishes at night while you sleep. Your mouth becomes dry, and dead cells adhere to your tongue and to the inside of your cheeks. Bacteria use these cells for food and expel compounds that have a foul odor.

In addition, bad breath can be caused by the following:

Poor dental hygiene — Infrequent or improper brushing and flossing can leave food particles to decay inside the mouth.

Infections in the mouth — Periodontal (gum) disease

Respiratory tract infections — Throat infections, sinus infections, lung infections

External agents — Garlic, onions, coffee, cigarette smoking, chewing tobacco

Dry mouth (xerostomia) — This can be caused by salivary gland problems, medications or by "mouth breathing."

Systemic illnesses — Diabetes, liver disease, kidney disease, lung disease, sinus disease, reflux disease and others

Psychiatric illness — Some people may perceive that they have bad breath, but it is not noticed by oral-health-care professionals or others. This is referred to as "pseudohalitosis."

Symptoms

A person may not always know that he or she has bad breath. This phenomenon is because odor-detecting cells in the nose eventually become accustomed to the constant flow of bad smells from the mouth. Others may notice and react by recoiling as you speak.

Other associated symptoms depend on the underlying cause of bad breath:

Poor dental hygiene — Teeth are coated with film or plaque, food debris trapped between teeth, pale or swollen gums

Infections in the mouth — Gums may be red, swollen and bleed easily, especially after brushing or flossing; pus may drain from between teeth; a pocket of pus (abscess) at the base of a tooth; loose teeth or a change in "fit" of a denture; painful, open sores on the tongue or gums

Respiratory tract infections — Sore throat, swollen lymph nodes ("swollen glands") in the neck, fever, stuffy nose, a greenish or yellowish nasal discharge, a mucus-producing cough

External agents — Cigarette stains on fingers and teeth, a uniform yellow "coffee stain" on teeth

Dry mouth — Difficulty swallowing dry foods, difficulty speaking for a prolonged period because of mouth dryness, a burning sensation in the mouth, an unusually high number of dental caries, dry eyes (in Sjögren's syndrome)

Systemic (bodywide) illnesses — Symptoms of diabetes, lung disease, kidney failure or liver disease

Also try a alcohol-free mouth wash such as Biotene Mouthwash. After you use these two items you will feel better. Make sure you keep your dental appointments for teeth cleanning.

Use a mouth wash after u eat. even use a mouthwash even after u take coffee. always have the habit of gogling with fresh water.
Reply:well, you could change to a vegetarian diet.

Sometimes things like garlic, onions, cabbage, certain cheeses make you smell but they are good (to eat) to keep your body healthy. You know now baking soda keeps the refrigerator smelling good by disbursing the bad smells? Well when we were growing up we used to use baking soda on our toothbrush instead of using toothpaste (so we got clean teeth and nice smelling mouth). Anyway, if you have a sour stomach, every so many months you can mix about half a teaspoon in a full glass of water and drink that. It will take care of the mo.

If you have bad teeth, get them fixed as that "may" be the cause of the odor. And, be sure to brush your tongue with toothpaste when you brush your teeth.

When do I start brushing my baby's teeth?

my baby is 10 month old and he alrady has 4 full grown teeth with a 5th tooth coming out. When and how do I start brushing his teeth?

When do I start brushing my baby's teeth?
Right now. You should have actually started cleaning his gums before he got teeth. But at 10 months get some training toothpaste since he will be swollowing it. I don't remember the exact name of it but it has Little Bear on it.
Reply:you should have already started- even before teeth come in it is good to brush the gums. get started!!!
Reply:You can start brushing as soon as a baby has teeth. Try to make it a mild children's toothpaste with a soft bristled brush. If the baby resists learning, be encouraging, but never force him to brush his teeth. Substitute floride enriched drinking water to make sure he gets his floride and limit sugar intake.
Reply:You should start brushing their teeth as soon as they pop through, so start now. Get a baby brush and flouride-free toothpaste from the store and just do the best you can. It usually tastes so good there's not a problem... What I do is sit my 15 month old on the counter so she can see herself, and I tell her to "say aah" and then I do the best I can. She usually chomps down on the brush the second it's in her mouth and sucks off the toothpaste, but I manage to get each tooth slightly brushed each time. Aim for twice a day, but at least once.
Reply:you can "brush" their gums with a face cloth from day one i guess.just do it very gently. Once they get teeth you can use a baby tooth brush (there are actual brushes or there are little things you put on your finger) a clean mouth is a happy mouth after all:)
Reply:even at 10 months old his gums will still be very soft, you should have started to brush them by now,

i would buy a very soft 1st stage brush and some baby toothpaste and just put a small ammount on, i used to do this with my kids and i would let them chew on it themselves then i would give them a soft gentle brush, my health visitor erccomended letting them chew on it especially when they weer teething
Reply:Before my daughter could do it on her own, I just used a soft washcloth and would wash her gums and teeth with it. Very easy and simple.
Reply:As soon as teeth start to show signs of coming through you need to start the brushing process. you can buy a starter tooth brush sets and this does them from 6mths months up,

my daughter is 5.5 mths and i have started as her first teeth are showing in her gums,

I'll start with massaging the gums with my finger, and as the teeth move further through I'll move up to the next appropriate brush
Reply:when they are born. you take a wet washcloth %26amp; wipe their gums after feedings or once a day. But since he's already 10m, start now. Its never too early! =) get one of those training sets at the store that has the little brush %26amp; the tooth %26amp; gum cleanser in it. And just brush his teeth. He may not let you at first, but keep trying. For now, you may put him in his high chair %26amp; let him brush first and then you can try. When he's older (around 12m) you could let him brush his teeth in the tub. I would let mine brush them in the tub at night. That way they could do it %26amp; it wouldn't make a mess.
Reply:I started brushing my children's teeth as soon as they got there first tooth, I bought the Gerber tooth brush with the tooth paste. It has worked well with teaching my children how to brush there teeth.
Reply:you can start now after you talk to his doctor make sure he or she thinks it's okay i started with my daughter about that age she had more teeth at 10 months though. i just bought trainging tooth paste. gerber is the best.
Reply:right away you should have started brushing his gums before he got teeth
Reply:Now. You could have been brushing the gums. But I would brush them now and get into a routine of brushing them in the morning and before bed.

I was brushing my teeth, hit my cheek, now it's randomly numb?

Ok. What the heck. lol.

Tonight I was brushing my teeth and I jabbed the toothbrush into the side of my mouth - not too hard. But all the sudden I had a numbing sensation in that entire area, except i feel it on the OUTSIDE of my cheek. It's still there and really random!

What could that be?

I was brushing my teeth, hit my cheek, now it's randomly numb?
You probably managed to hit right on a nerve ending. Just wait a day or two and the problem should go away.

Brushing your teeth with ben gay, would you own up to it.?

One of my favorite all time world famous contemporary christian musicians/artist named Carman was prepairing for a meet and greet right after a show in Germany. Well, a tube of close up looks just like a red tube of ben gay. Carman puts some on his tooth brush and gives himself a good brushing. He swirls around rinse and then spits. He drinks some cold water as I am sure we all do after a good tooth brushing. He turns to walk away and "YAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAEEEEEEE... His gums and entire mouth were litterally on fire. He spent the next hour at least underneath the water spicket! He never did that again but he sure had nice and soft gums. We had a Q and A with him and one of the guys who was there brought it up. Man we laughed for an hour after that! Carman got really squeemish over it and it was sooo funny! But he at least owned up to it.

Think it's funny, especially since I know who Carmen is.

Is there any special toothpaste for children, please sugges.

Shall start brushing the teeth in the age of 2 years?
Hi i would have suggested brushing her teeth when she was around 1 years old as the teeth can still rot the same as yours can. You need to start brushing her teeth with a childrens toothbrush and childrens toothpaste.

As far as swallowing toothpaste goes check to see if there is fluoride in you water in your area if there isnt swallowing a small amount of toothpaste wont harm her just try not to use alot of toothpaste.
Reply:they do have special, flouride free toothpastes that are safe to swallow. I can't think of any brand names at the moment though. Just ask in your local pharmacy, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Reply:you can but use only a very small amount of toothpaste , b`coz itcan irritate her young mouth
Reply:Yes, definitely. Take children's brush. RCM company's ayurvedic toothpaste and MESWAK are good for all family members whatever be the age. Let all brush teeth twice daily, -morning and before going to bed.
Reply:its not just teeth but even gums that need to be cleaned coz a 21 month old baby eats a lot more than just milk.

There are these really soft, n very tiny toothbrushes available in the market(i used johnsons for my kids). Also, colgate has a kiddy toothpaste which is not too strong.Right now u can simply brush her teeth just like that but make sure u do it very gently.
Reply:it is quite natural that children are swallowing the tooth-paste at this age.

better to go to a dentist with ur girl, to get a very good advice specific to her.

have a nice time
Reply:. Once kids have teeth they need brushed, I would brush her gums to get the gunk off.

Oral B makes a kids flouride free toothpast-its the one with Little Bear on it and its under 3.00 a tube. Also, pick up a soft bristle toddler brush. Apply a teeny pea sized amount on the bristles and brush her teeth. It is okay if she swallows it bc its flouride free. Once she is able to spit on her own, switch to kids paste w/flouride.

Make sure you get all of her teeth. If its easier let her hold the brush to get used to it and guide her hand to brush or let her chew on it a bit before you brush them. Remember to replace her brush every 3 mos. Also have her teeth checked by a dentist before she starts preschool.
Reply:You can look for kids toothpaste or check for toothpaste that has less fluoride. But I dont think theres anything in the market. You can check with medical shop.

Brushing with fingers is ok. If you can find soft bristle brush you can do it very lightly.

The moment the first teeth shows you can start brushing very gently.

If you have braces, but barely brushed your teeth before and you start brushing well afterwards what will....?

If you had braces for 3 years. And before that three years you barely brushed your teeth at all and they were really yellow. But after you had got braces you start brushing everyday and well. What would your teeth look like after you take them off?

If you have braces, but barely brushed your teeth before and you start brushing well afterwards what will....?
Still yellow, but there will be no stain from the braces.
Reply:You might have stains, but they can be easily fixed with a bleach product from the dentist or from the drug store. Don't worry about it, it won't be a big deal.
Reply:Ew. They will be a slightly lighter yellow, but you will have gross small circles on each of your teeth. Should have brushed...
Reply:Yellowish...Plaque! YEahhh.. :D
Reply:You'll have yellow spots where the brackets were. I'm sure you can get rid of those somehow though. And if you don't brush your teeth well when they have braces, you can get cavities behind the brackets. And let me tell you, that's just no fun at all.
Reply:They would probably look better because not only will they be straight, but they will also be healthier because you started brushing your teeth more. If you really want to get them whiter brush twice a day for at least 30 seconds each time.
Reply:you might have white teeth and then yellow spots where the brackets were. my brother actually fell on his scooter and hit the ground so hard that his front two teeth each got a dark stain on the front from the pavement so he got them bleached and now they're fine.
Reply:Not sure. Try the Crest Whitestrips maybe?
Reply:When I had braces and I developed better brushing skills then when I didnt have them, but my teeth weren't yellow. but I was never left with yellow coloring. The only thing I have left is some glue on my back molars that the Orthodontist cant get off with out doing damage. I suggest a whitening mouthwash and a baking soda toothpaste.
Reply:Actually if you don't brush your teeth while having braces the areas outside of the brace will have plaque build-ups and be stained yellow while what is safe and well underneath the suctions of the braces will be pearly or ivory white,. Therefore, your teeth will look odd, because they will look like they have been bleached where the suctions covered which will make it look like you have major plaque problems, because plaque is naturally white, some will even notice that those areas are imprints of what were braces. I had braces and made sure to brush quite often and even then there was at one point a defining line between the areas that were under the suctions and the areas that weren't. This is not a fear tactic, it is for your own health, a protection from building up diseases if you will.

I think that not brushing your teeth will almost defeat the purpose of getting braces anyway, because the teeth will be stained and look abnormal, which is never the goal. I've posted a link to what the stains will look like below. It's safe to brush no matter what, it's also a good habit. Also there are some tips on how to take care of your teeth with braces.

When to start brushing daughters teeth?

my daughter is 11 months old, she has 2 teeth on the bottom and is starting to get 1 on top. when do i start brushing her teeth? and is there something other than toothpaste that i should use? any advice would be appreciated thank you

When to start brushing daughters teeth?
Hi there, you need to start brushing teeth as soon as there is signs they are coming through. Start now to avoid them rotting. Use toothpaste but get some designed for babies and small children. Your pharmacist should be able to help you. She'll get used to having a toothbrush in her mouth so just give it time and persevere. Good luck x
Reply:Get the fingertip brush and some training toothpast and start NOW. Really-you can brush their gums when there's nothing there.

Now, if she wants to BITE, you can use the regular step 1 brushes. She likely won't sit still for it but she willw ant to try it herself. Let her. Some brushing gets done, and that's better than nothing. Do this twice a day.

Best-

Reply:We were told around 18 months or so and just use water.

You are not suppose to use paste until they learn how

to spit.
Reply:You should have already started. Be sure to use baby toothpaste, because it is safe for them to swallow unlike adult toothpaste. You should start brushing before they even have teeth, by brushing their gums. You should start now since you haven't already. Being 11 months old, she is probably eating solids and drinking other than formula (maybe not) so she should definitely be getting her teeth brushed.
Reply:You start brushing as soon as they have teeth and regular dental appointments should start around age 3.

Don't use adult toothpaste. In the baby section of your grocery store or drug store you can find children's toothpaste. My daughter especially liked the Little Bear Oral-B kind.

The kid's stuff is ok if they swallow some of it, unlike adult toothpaste, and it's made to teach good brushing habits.
Reply:My daughter got teeth at 5 months but even before then I would take a washcloth using my finger and brush her gums. As she got more teeth, I got her a Dora toothbrush and toothpaste (her favorite). She is 2 1/2 years old and doesn't always want to brush her teeth, even if I'm doing it for her. Sometimes, I give her my toothbrush and she thinks she's special. Try to make it a fun thing, so your daughter doesn't fight it. Flavored toothpaste should help. Good luck!
Reply:I would start now, so that she can get in the habbit when she is older. They have baby toothpaste in the baby isle at the store that you can use %26amp; it comes with a little toothbrush that you put on your finger to get in there pretty easy.
Reply:We were told by our pediatrician that as long as your child has teeth, they're never too young to start brushing. At your daughters age, it's a good idea to just use a toothbrush and water, and try to clean the teeth as best as you can.

As she gets a little bit older, up to age 3 or so, you can use toothpaste that doesn't contain fluoride. This way they won't get sick from swallowing the toothpaste as they can't really spit very well.

After age 3, regular fluoride toothpaste is fine.

Hope this helps
Reply:I am a big believer in oral hygeine...From the time I brought my kids home I would clean their mouths with a damp washcloth after they ate, and gave them a few sips of water to wash whatever residue down...I may be a bit OCD about that...when they got their teeth I used babytoothpaste and a baby toothbrush (soft) on their teeth and gums. You should also being thinking about getting your child used to having her mouth poked at (in a brushing way) so that when you begin dental visits, she won't be afraid.
Reply:as early as possible! I suggest getting her one of those "Baby's 1st toothbrush" and let her start chewing on it. That way, she can get a feel for it, since ALOT of toddlers cannot stand the feel of having their teeth brushed.
Reply:you should start with a toothbrush for baby.
Reply:Now!

As soon as babies get their teeth - you need to start taking care of them. Get a baby toothbrush (and there are some that fit over your finger, made from silicone) and use infant toothpaste - it's safer to swallow. You can teach your baby how to spit though - babies will imitate you the more you practice with them. My kids could spit by the time they were 15-18 mos old. Really, you could just use water and a washcloth if you had nothing else! Don't give anything to drink before bed other than water either. 1st Dental check up by age 3, unless you see a problem before this. Best Wishes!
Reply:It's advised to use just a sterile cloth to brush her gums with, and water until she is about 18 months old. Don't use toothpaste yet!!!

This is advice from my doc....

*Mummy to Alex, 5, and Encarni, 15 weeks*
Reply:As soon as baby has one tooth start to brush. There are special training pastes out there. They aren't actually a paste. They are a cleaning gel. There are finger tip brushes, baby brushes, or a good ol' wash cloth around the finger for an instant toothbrush.
Reply:You should start brushing them now. Use a tooth brush designed for babies with very soft brissles and warm water. (Your dentist will give you one) She is still too young for tooth paste, she will swallow it which could make her sick. You should get her in the habit of brushing at least twice a day, in the morning and before bed.
Reply:There is special brushes and toothpaste for children under 1... that are soft for gum areas.. and the paste is safe even if swallowed a little. go to walgreens ! and it is NEVER too soon to cleanse/swab/ brush gums and teeth.. as long as you are not abrasive, i woulda stared at day 1.
Reply:you can actually begin brushing at age 6 months. oral b stages make products beginning at age 6 months. it's a really soft bristled brush that you slip over your finger and you brush their teeth and gums with the special toothpaste that comes with it. once they grow teeth you can graduate to the actual tooth brush, still with their special toothpaste. this toothpaste can be swallowed because it doesn't have fluoride in it. it's made especially for babies. I've been using the oral b stages products on my daughter since she was 6 months and now she's 29 months. i hope this helps, good luck
Reply:As soon as she got a tooth you should have started. Once they are born you are suppose to clean there gums with water and then once they get teeth brush them. I use the baby toothpaste and I brush my soons teeth and then let him do it on his own because he likes to do it. He is 16 months but even at 11 months he was doing it. I also have a few differ toothbrush's but one that is his favorite which u can get at walmart if you push on the bottom it flashes they have all kinda of color's. That makes brushing your teeth fun. My friend took her 1 1/2 year old to the dentist and they told her that she can actually use adult toothpaste it is all the same or was better I don't remember which one it was. But don't use a lot where she can swallow it. I however use the kid one still because I tried the adult one and my son did not like it at all.
Reply:when she get them
