Brushing teeth. Am I being ridiculous? OCD perhaps?

Before I go to sleep, I brush my teeth. If I happen to wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or something else, I HAVE to brush my teeth again before I can go back to sleep. I just feel icky if I don't do it. My husband thinks I'm being totally ridiculous. Am I being silly or are there any other people out there who do the same thing?

i am sure that your husband appreciates your fresher breath when you have that wake-up kiss. He is just kidding you. I brush my teeth every time I am in the bathroom...I do not make extra trips just to brush them, but since I am there in the first place, why not? Some mornings, I wish my wife had. Another thing...at night, our mouths are open a lot longer than during the day and that helps the bacteria to multiply more easily. That is bad for the teeth and for the breath. GO for it. Smile at him with your clean, pretty mouth when he laughs.
Reply:I do that as well.. I hate waking up and having a weird taste in my mouth :(
Reply:I don't think it's icky I think it's great. What is icky is the taste in your mouth when you wake up. You are fine!

Colgate Total does however help with the icky taste. Have you tried it?
Reply:As a dentist, I always applaud any extra brushing as long as it doesn't interfere with daily life. One or two extra brushings during the night?--tell your husband you love him and not to worry.
Reply:Whatever makes you happy. There's no harm in practicing good oral hygiene. Me personally? I couldn't care less. I'd rather have a decent night's sleep and deal with dragon-breath the next morning than be fully awake with fresh breath at 2am.
Reply:Sounds normal. You probably just have a dryer mouth.

You can brush your teeth up to 5 times a day w/o causing any emamel damage.

If your mouth feels icky, that's a sign that your mouth isnt clean. It's good to brush then.

You're perfectly fine.

Reply:At least you arent doing something bad! It would be a problem if you were taking shots of whiskey or something but brushing your teeth is VERY VERY healthy! Dont worry it isnt a bad thing.
Reply:everyone has something which they feel always needs to be clean or they wont be comfortble in your case its teeth
Reply:I like to brush my teeth if I can't sleep, ei like you said wake up, then I have to brush my teeth, too! It just makes me feel fresh and nice before I go back to sleep. Its not weird or ridiculous. Its just the way we are. :]
Reply:I sometimes do that. You could just use mouthwash for the middle of the night. It will help get rid of some of the taste.
Reply:No you're not. Sometimes when I wake up I do too, but not obsessively so. For some reason I just get a really nasty taste in my mouth at night.
Reply:Ridiculous, no. But think about this, we are only advised by our dentist to brush our teeth at least 2x a day - in the morning and before going to bed. Too much brushing, especially hard brushing, can make our gums receed leading to root exposure. Root exposed is very sensitive to hot/cold food, metal, air and citrus fruit. Root exposed is not also esthetically acceptable. Imagine your teeth looking longer. If you think, you are overdoing it, consider this.
Reply:This is okay. You only need to brush your teeth 3 times a day. Just as long as you are not brushing to hard when you do and are using a soft bristle brush. You can cause your gums to recede exposing the dentin and cementum underneath which will cause you to have to have some dental work done.
