Bad Brushing Teeth Habit?

Okay.

I feel guilty, but I will get over it.

I barely brush my teeth. Maybe, 4 or so times a week. Okay, maybe a little more, maybe like, 6 times or something. Anyway, what is a good way to have me get into a habit of doing this more often? I think of it this way: would if I was about to kiss a guy? That still doesn't help me though. Any suggestions? Also, if you feel comfortable, how many times, about, do you brush your teeth a week?

Thank you guys soo much!

Bad Brushing Teeth Habit?
The purpose of brushing teeth is to keep them clean of food particles and the bacteria that accumulate over night when you sleep. Rinsing your mouth frequently with clean water, especially after any intake of food/beverage, is one way of keeping your mouth clean.

Now come to brushing. Dentists generally advise to brush at least twice a day especially after lunch and dinner. Many people are not able to keep this routine for various reasons. I am one of them, my reason? The back of my mouth is highly sensitive and I throw up if brush after the food intake.

So, I follow the following routine:

1. Immediately after getting up in the morning I rinse my mouth with fresh water vigorously using my fingers to reach out every nook and corner of the mouth. This helps in flushing out the over-night bacteria accumulation and the after-dinner-food-particles, if remaining at all.

2. Then, I drink tea with morning papers and then BRUSH my teeth using tooth-paste and brush. Contrary to general practice of circulatory motion, I use up %26amp; down motion of brush, on outside and inside surfaces, targetting each tooth to the best of my ability. Up %26amp; down motion helps dislodge food particles stuck between the teeth. It takes about two to three minutes and also disallows tea stains to form.

3. Thereafter, I go on to have my breakfast, late morning snacks, lunch, after-noon tea/snacks, dinner and whole day of tea/coffee/beverage consumption but make sure to rinse my mouth, again using fingers thoroughly, soon after any in-take of food/beverages. This way, I don't allow food particles to remain in my mouth. I have adopted this procedure to eliminate use of tooth-paste and brush so that I can do it anytime anywhere. I don't need to carry my brush and paste everywhere.

4. Twice or thrice in a week I use dental floss to clean gaps in the teeth.

I am 59 years old and have been able to maintain a healthy set of teeth and gums. Once in a while, depending on the type of food I consume in the dinner, I do use brush %26amp; paste

before going to bed so that my partner does not desert me.

The bottom line is your mouth should remain clean, brush or no-brush.
Reply:well if you dont like to brush your teeth that often brush them once a morning after you eat breakfast

I brush once and floss after dinner thats about it.
Reply:I brush twice a day but I do admit I don't brush for 2 minutes.

If you don't brush twice a day your teeth will be like my dad's when you are older. So brown and icky that they almost look hairy. And he can't chew very well because his gums are weak.

Maybe that helped.
Reply:I only remember to do it before bed. Make it part of your routine and you will do it.

It's hard for me to remember to do it before leaving the house, cause I just grab food on my way to work...but keep in mind that chewing SUGAR-FREE gum does help, so try to do that as well.
Reply:wow, how old are you? when i was a young kid i did that, but after that you just know you have to brush your teeth.

i brush my teeth every day out of the week, sometimes twice a day which you are really supposed to do, but i only have the time for once a day, with mouthwash
Reply:You should brush your teeth at least twice a day- according to my dentist. I brush every morning as soon as I get up. A good rule is this: the first thing you do in the morning is to go to the bathroom. After you pee, wash your hands. While you are standing at the sink, it only takes 2 minutes to brush!! And, if you think about why you have that horrible morning breath, if you brush at night, you won't have it nearly as bad! And, if I were a guy, I would be able to tell your teeth were not clean- both visually, and by the bad breath!!
Reply:omg, Sweetie, you need to brush your teeth twice a day!!!! When you get up and when you go to bed. This should be part of a daily ritual. I don't want to scare you but if it works ok... I had a 29 yr old cousin that had very poor oral hygiene. not unlike yourself, he rarely brushed, I also guess you don't go to a dentist.... anyway, he developed an abcess in his gums and it became infected. he never went to see about it and he died from septic blood poisining!! Your gums can easily become infected with the oral bacteria in your mouth and this bacteria can get into your blood stream and go to your heart. If that happens then you are really in trouble.

I myself brush 3 times a day and floss and wash with antibacterial mouth wash twice a day.

If the above doesn't happen then you can certainly lose your teeth at a very young age. Do yourself a favor,

take care of your mouth, teeth and gums, go to a dentist for a check up and further instructions.
Reply:i used to be like you because up unil about a month ago i had perfect teeth and got away with brushing once every morning for about one minute at the most. Then I went to the dentist and they said in a 6 month period of not frequently brushing/flossing I managed to get 5 cavities and gingivitis. After that little bit of news I usually brush twice a day and floss once but I'll admit this doesn't always happen.
Reply:Brush while you are showering :)

And get some mouth wash!
Reply:Well, I used to have bad brushing habits too (sometimes I would go the weekend without brushing my teeth, or days that i had off of work) And I hardly if ever flossed. I tend to have pretty good teeth, I only have 3 fillings. But when I had my teeth cleaned a couple of years ago something happened to me to make me change my dental habits. The lady cleaning my teeth said my gums were in the early stages of gingivitis and if I do not change my brushing habits I could lose my teeth. gingivitis is caused by plaque that is left on the teeth. It can cause your gums to recede till you do not have enough gum to hold your tooth in place and it falls out. I am only in my mid 20's and my gums have receded a little bit. But I still have my teeth

Reply:I brush my teeth in the morning, after I eat and at night before going bed. They always say, "Always brush the teeth you want to keep"

If you don't like to brush your teeth, go to your dentist and let them show you their patients who don't do it. Bad breath, gingivitis and missing tooth are for witches on Halloween.
Reply:Hi,

There is no research out there that stated you have to brush twice aday. In fact, there is two studies by Loe and Silness (1965 and 1973) that involved a group of students who were instructed to abandon all their brushing for a month so the gingival inflammation and plaque accumulation can be studied (I guess if you are a student, you have no right back then). The result showed that gingivitis occured at day number 3, with plaque formed some hard mass at day number seven and more and required professional cleaning. This proved that if you brush your teeth very thoroughly, you can brush once a day and it is just as effective. You can use the plaque disclosure liquid or tablet to mark your plaque red and remove them easily this way. The best way I found is to use the Sonnicare, which I believe is the best brush due to speed and degree of cleanliness. The clean and healthy teeth are those that does not bleed during brushing. By the way, brush sideway, horizontally at the gum line (BASS technique, adopted by ADA). Hope my answer can help you.
Reply:Try to wake up each morning and brush your teeth for 2 minutes and think of what people used to think your breath smelled like. Try to start over with a clean start and do your hair and feel nice about yourself and then when you are heading to bed brush your teeth again thinking that you are getting ready for tomorrows cleaning!

God Bless!
Reply:well when you get your first rotten tooth you will start brushing. i brush in the morning, middle day and before bed. i had alot of money in my mouth
Reply:I have the same problem so I brush my teeth in the shower and that helps me remember to do it

Crest whiting strips *brushing teeth**?

so when i wake up in the morning... i can have breakfast and then as soon as i'm finished use the strips for 30mins then straight away brush my teeth???

and the same with dinner.. i have dinner.. use the strips for 30mins and then brush my teeth??

OR

do i use them first being ANYTHING.. have breakfast/dinner and then brush my teeth??

thanks!

Crest whiting strips *brushing teeth**?
I agree...they should be used after eating and after brushing-they shouldn't come in contact with anything except the cleanest possible tooth surface. Be aware that they may increase the sensitivity of your teeth and you may find that you react more to cold and hot.
Reply:I have read that you should not brush your teeth directly before or after. When I use I use them I'll do it after I eat breakfast, then get ready, then brush my teeth right before I go. And maybe I just mentally think this, but I feel like if I brush right after I scrub off some of the white strip gel stuff, I feel like it has to soak into your teeth.
Reply:brush your teeth and then use the white strips....

or even better.....

read the instructions that come with the white strips :)

Daughter and brushing teeth?

I have a delimma and need some advice. My daughter is 11, taller than me but still so immature for her age. She doesnt brush her teeth properly, (still yellow and yucky) and I have shown her repeatedly and the dentist also has. If I cant get her to brush her teeth without being prompted and when she does so get her to do it properly, should I fight this battle? Or should I just brush her teeth for her? I am concerned but dont know what else to do?

Daughter and brushing teeth?
I don't think you can brush her teeth for her, that's just not going to go down well with an eleven year old.

I would just leave it other kids will soon start to comment on her bad breath and yuk teeth.

Tell her not to breath on you her breath smells, get the rest of the family to do the same.

Don't let her give you a kiss tell her, her teeth look awful and you don't want them near you. sounds mean but she will soon get the message.

I hope anyway.

Good luck.
Reply:I think that if she really refuses...just leave her. She'll realise that people don't like bad breath, and she'll start to care about what impression she gives people. Try comment on other's nice breath while she's around...like, get your husband or another family member to take a mint, and then smell their breath in front of your daughter...saying that they have nice breath, not 'dragon's breath' or something. Good luck!
Reply:I have the same problem with my sister.. no matter how much our family tells her to brush her teeth she just wont listen... sometimes her breath smells like poo and we all say what they hell is that smell... every time she is with me I tell her that I love her and I want her to be perfect.. first of all she is going to loose her teeth cause it will happen if she doenst brush..

tell her that she isnt going to have any teeth left is she keeps this up.. but its really hard to make someone do something they just don't want to do.. I would brush them myself but that wouldn't go well I bet..

This is really a hard one cause your making someone do something they don't want to do.. maybe Ground her if she doesn't brush and check her teeth every morning and night and if they arent clean then ground her for a day and so on!

Hope this helps.

Reply:yuou dont need to fight this battle am sure her friends and pple will do it for you just sit and wait.
Reply:Have you tried one of those crest spin brushes? I like those for myself.

Yes, this is a battle for you to fight. Does the dentist have photos of people who haven't brushed their teeth? After a long period of time? Maybe the dentist needs to have an appt. with her (and you together) and show her the pics.

Has she had her teeth professionally cleaned by the dentist recently? That should be done every six months.

Maybe also have the dentist, and her dr., talk with her (you present as well) about the importance of clean teeth, etc. She needs to floss too. It is important, not just for her teeth and her mouth, and no bad breath, but also for her general health. jSo, if it comes down to it, you may need to brush and floss her teeth for her, till she decides to do it properly herself. Please start with the dentist, etc. first.

Take care.
Reply:i would not be doing it for her that is for shore i might be putting signs on the car as going to school for all the kids to see!

i would be saying things like no clean teeth no computer or TV or something that she is going to wont to use. and make shore they are done right, if they are not done then let her have access to the item but make it so that parts are off it or something like that like the TV make the leads out of the TV and not let her put them in..

Good luck
Reply:Go and buy her an electric toothbrush and threaten groundings and no pocket money / allowance if she doesn't do it twice a day. Stick to your guns if you do threaten a consequence. She needs to learn how to do it properly so don't do it for her and remind her every morning and night and watch if you have to.
Reply:Brush her teeth for her.

Brushing teeth all day, will it work?

I want to whiten my teeth quickly and have always wondered something. If I brushed my teeth from 8am to 10pm, besides a stinging mouth, would it have the same effect as if I brushed them say 3 times a day for three months? Would it whiten them immediately? This is a serious question!!

Brushing teeth all day, will it work?
You'll damage the enamel. Just brush properly twice a day or after anything especially starchy or sugary (sticky). Good idea to rinse well (I even rinse with mild bicarb solution) after something acidic, like fruits and juices, especially carbonated stuff - avoid brushing for a while after acidic stuff, as it can make your enamel a little more vulnerable to the abrasion.
Reply:no too much brushing believe it or not is bad for you!
Reply:It all really depends on your teeth. I brush my teeth three times a day and haven't had a cavity in three years. I also use mouthwash, floss and use a special toothpaste my doctor prescribed me. My teeth are really sensitive and I get cavities very easily so I'm not sure if it's the special toothpaste or what but definitely consult with your dentist. Hope this helps :)
Reply:NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:I think that much brushing would hurt your teeth, since the toothpaste is abrasive. It would be better and less harmful to use a whitening product.
Reply:it would be alot easier to use a whitining product that works at night, brushing your teeth that much will not work - if anything it will rub enamel off your teeth, and your arm will get sore from brushing so long...seriously try something like Crest White Strips - they can be found at any drug store or supermarket
Reply:No it will not work infact over brushing will damage the enamel on your teeth. If you want to whiten your teeth peroxide works very well. Gargle with one part water and one part peroxide for at least 30 seconds daily before or after brushing your teeth. Do not swallow it! spit it out afterwards as you would a mouthwash.
Reply:Whitening your teeth is easy. Buy Listerine whitening mouthwash or chew gum to whiten your teeth. There is gum that whitens your teeth.
Reply:If you want to brighten your teeth quickly, then find a specialist to help you. If you go to a dentist, they can do it for you in about 2 hours. Alternatively, if you happen to live in a city that has a 'BriteSmile' spa, they can do it in about 90 minutes.
Reply:Brushing your teeth too much with brush enamel off your teeth and your teeth need that to stay healthy try crest whiting strips.
Reply:~Baking Soda ~

Pour a little baking soda in a bowl, wet your toothbrush, daub it in the baking soda and brush. You will surprised how well this works. You will be smiling in no time :)

I wouldn't do this more than once a week, it also removes the plaque.
Reply:TEETH ARE STAINED OVER TIME BY A VARIETY OF THINGS.BRUSHING FOR TOO LONG OR TOO FIRMLY CAN CAUSE GUM PROBLEMS. HAVING THEM WHITENED PROFESSIONALLY IS BEST.
Reply:Brushing your teeth too abrasively and excessivly can cause ur gums to receed leading to sensativity problems. Also whitening toothpaste isn't very effective.I would go to the detist and use their product or if money is an issue Crest white strips have great results.Do know that if you have teeth that have had white fillings, silver, crowns,or veneers they do not whiten!-angie-RDA

Pets-Brushing Teeth?

My dog (a Norfolk Terrier) hates having his teeth brushed. He moves, eats the tooth paste, refuses to open him mouth and more, is there any easier way to get his teeth brusded at home? [[ We dont go somewhere to get them brushed, we do it at home. ]]

Pets-Brushing Teeth?
You have to slowly de-sensitize him to the whole experience. First you start with playing with his mouth, when you can do that without him getting upset move on to playing with his gums. After you can put your fingers in his mouth all the way to the back on both sides you progress to introducing a toothbrush. I find that the finger brushes for puppies work best for this because it's just a texture difference in their mouth rather than a difference in the whole shape and your body position, etc. Once you do that, you slowly introduce the toothpaste. DO NOT use human toothpaste, only animal toothpaste. My dogs like the Vanilla Mint CET toothpaste, but they have all sorts of flavors, our old family dog liked the PB flavor from Petsmart, whatever works. Slowly introduce that. It is okay if he licks it or moves it around in his mouth. Pet toothpaste works on an enzyme level, not like human toothpaste that works on abrasion. If you get the toothpaste in his mouth, get it rubbed on his teeth and he moves it around his mouth, the enzymes will still do their job. This whole process takes MONTHS, especially if you've been doing it already and it doesn't like it. Just be sure to take it slowly and reward him with a break whenever he does what you ask him to. It make take days to get him through one step. But its worth it when you don't have to sedate for a dentistry in the end :)
Reply:Dog teeth brushing isnt an exact science. Brush what you can however you can, and other than that, give him bones to chew on that help his teeth. Theres not much else you can do.
Reply:There is no easy way to do that, but I know rawhide chews helps
Reply:Try a brush that goes on your finger and not an actual tooth brush.

This is typical for dogs though, I have never had a dog that enjoyed it. It is not a natural action for them and don't understand it
Reply:Put a leash on him and whle you and brushing his teeth have some one else hold the leash. who ever is brushing his teeth needs to sit down and try to get him to sit down. then roll him on his back and try to brush them. i have a great dane and this helps alot when i go to brush her teeth.
Reply:Just do the best you can, it's not always easy or exact!! Have fun.
Reply:with my dogs, i have a difficult time as well but i give a treat after. now that they've learned that, i set the treat on the table near where i have the dog so she is reminded. usually, they are so busy starring down the anticipated treat they forget about what i'm doing. it's still a difficult job, but not as bad as it was. also, eating the toothpaste is why we must always use pet toothpaste- never human.
Reply:Do his teeth when he is going to sleep or is very sleepy. When he is calmed down it will help a lot and praise him through out the brushing.
Reply:Some of the dog toothpaste you can buy is activated by the dog's saliva - so it doesn't really matter if his teeth don't all get brushed - just having the toothpaste in his mouth will be of benefit.

If he hates the toothbrush, have you tried one of the finger brushes - they look like a spiky thimble and can be easier to manouver around a reluctant dog's mouth!

It is also a good idea to brush teeth just before you feed your dog - they will start to associate brushing with food after, and this can make it more pleasurable for them.

Brushing teeth with canker sore?

I have a canker sore on my side gums. My toothpaste has SLS in it and until I can get to the store to find some toothpaste without SLS, what can I use to brush my teeth with? I usually brush before bed and when I get up. Would using the warm water and baking soda solution I'm using for my sore help clean my teeth?

Brushing teeth with canker sore?
I don't think you can use a canker sore to brush your teeth.

Ok, I'm being literal here because of the way you worded your question.

If you want to get rid of a canker sore, use hydrogen peroxide. Swish it around in your mouth for 1 minute 3 times a day and your sores will be gone in less than 2 days. Do not swallow the hydrogen peroxide because it could upset your stomach. This really works wonders!
Reply:baking soda or salt.

The salt may even help to get rid of the sore.
Reply:Baking soda should work OK. It might even help neutralize the canker sore and get it to heal. My mother puts peroxide on a Q Tip and then on the canker sore and it helps heal it faster. Only do that once because peroxide kills the skin and you don't want the new healthy skin to die

Brushing teeth. Am I being ridiculous? OCD perhaps?

Before I go to sleep, I brush my teeth. If I happen to wake up in the middle of the night to use the restroom or something else, I HAVE to brush my teeth again before I can go back to sleep. I just feel icky if I don't do it. My husband thinks I'm being totally ridiculous. Am I being silly or are there any other people out there who do the same thing?

Brushing teeth. Am I being ridiculous? OCD perhaps?
i am sure that your husband appreciates your fresher breath when you have that wake-up kiss. He is just kidding you. I brush my teeth every time I am in the bathroom...I do not make extra trips just to brush them, but since I am there in the first place, why not? Some mornings, I wish my wife had. Another thing...at night, our mouths are open a lot longer than during the day and that helps the bacteria to multiply more easily. That is bad for the teeth and for the breath. GO for it. Smile at him with your clean, pretty mouth when he laughs.
Reply:I do that as well.. I hate waking up and having a weird taste in my mouth :(
Reply:I don't think it's icky I think it's great. What is icky is the taste in your mouth when you wake up. You are fine!

Colgate Total does however help with the icky taste. Have you tried it?
Reply:As a dentist, I always applaud any extra brushing as long as it doesn't interfere with daily life. One or two extra brushings during the night?--tell your husband you love him and not to worry.
Reply:Whatever makes you happy. There's no harm in practicing good oral hygiene. Me personally? I couldn't care less. I'd rather have a decent night's sleep and deal with dragon-breath the next morning than be fully awake with fresh breath at 2am.
Reply:Sounds normal. You probably just have a dryer mouth.

You can brush your teeth up to 5 times a day w/o causing any emamel damage.

If your mouth feels icky, that's a sign that your mouth isnt clean. It's good to brush then.

You're perfectly fine.
Reply:oced can be treated with

eft with gary craig it's free.
Reply:At least you arent doing something bad! It would be a problem if you were taking shots of whiskey or something but brushing your teeth is VERY VERY healthy! Dont worry it isnt a bad thing.
Reply:everyone has something which they feel always needs to be clean or they wont be comfortble in your case its teeth
Reply:I like to brush my teeth if I can't sleep, ei like you said wake up, then I have to brush my teeth, too! It just makes me feel fresh and nice before I go back to sleep. Its not weird or ridiculous. Its just the way we are. :]
Reply:I sometimes do that. You could just use mouthwash for the middle of the night. It will help get rid of some of the taste.
Reply:No you're not. Sometimes when I wake up I do too, but not obsessively so. For some reason I just get a really nasty taste in my mouth at night.
Reply:Ridiculous, no. But think about this, we are only advised by our dentist to brush our teeth at least 2x a day - in the morning and before going to bed. Too much brushing, especially hard brushing, can make our gums receed leading to root exposure. Root exposed is very sensitive to hot/cold food, metal, air and citrus fruit. Root exposed is not also esthetically acceptable. Imagine your teeth looking longer. If you think, you are overdoing it, consider this.
Reply:This is okay. You only need to brush your teeth 3 times a day. Just as long as you are not brushing to hard when you do and are using a soft bristle brush. You can cause your gums to recede exposing the dentin and cementum underneath which will cause you to have to have some dental work done.

Brushing teeth at school? (Braces)?

Hi, well I just got a travel brush, and my dentist recommends that I use it at school, and I agree with him, I most definately do not want food stuck in my teeth.

But where can I brush them in a place, where people won't hear, they'll think I'm a freak!

I just want to have clean teeth...! I don't want any plaque marks or anything like that when they come off!

Brushing teeth at school? (Braces)?
Good for you for staying clean, and wanting beautiful teeth!

What I normally did when I was in school, I waited until class started, then I would go on a bathroom break and then I would go to the restroom, and brush it there while the other students were in class.

Or if you are really horrified and embarassed someone will see you, you can ask your school nurse to use that restroom, but then again, there will be sick kids in there. but no one will think you are a freak!
Reply:Can't you do to the cloakroom? That's what my son does.
Reply:maybe the bathroom toilet stall!!!
Reply:The restroom. If they think you are a freak and state so, pay them a compliment. If they continue to mock you pay them another compliment but this time follow it with a good kick to thier groin.

I had braces and food getting stuck in them is a pain in the ***. They are also expensive and you want to keep your teeth clean or you will get spots from the brackets. They are not your peers responsibility so there for disregard your peers. It will determine real friendship in the end. Good luck!
Reply:you could try using floss first and buy or get a little tool thing that helps clean in between the braces, also if you want to brush after lunch, ask your teacher to go to the bathroom during class, that way there will be minimal people in the bathroom. if your teacher doesnt allow that have someone (ur mom, dad, etc.) write a note to the teacher explaining it, hope it helps! :)
Reply:What would you rather people giving you weird glances until they realise/or you tell them that you've got braces. Or end up with those dreaded plaque marks?

My best mate had braces a couple of years ago while we were at school and she just used to use the sink in the bathroom/toilet to brush her teeth after lunch.

Dont worry to much about it at least you'll have really straight teeth
Reply:I wouldn't worry about it. I'm pretty sure that when people see you with braces, they will know why you are doing it. It only takes 2 minutes anyway. You're not the only one with braces I'm sure. If you are that worried about it, find the bathroom that is used the least and brush them there. Wouldn't you rather have people see you brushing your teeth so they know that you take good care of them and that they are clean? I would.......
Reply:Use it in the bathroom stall.
Reply:You dont mention what age you are but if this is a secondary school, I would be inclined to ask the H.E(cookery) teacher if it was possible to do it there. Or indeed any classroom (art?) that has sinks that is normally out of bounds at lunch time. All the best.

The staff toilets or medical room are probably not bad guesses either.

Something that may look a bit less "freaky" as you put it may be not to brush your teeth at all and use mouthwash instead.
Reply:My daughter has to do this at school she just uses the bathroom, she had a few kids ask her why and just explained that is the best way of taking care of her teeth while she is wearing braces so as not to get marks on her teeth if you have any trouble speak to the staff they will probably let you use their bathroom to do this they can be very understanding and what have you to loose as you will be the one with cleanest straightest smile in school. Good luck and keep on smiling.
Reply:Trust me sweetie! I would rather you brush your teeth in front of me, than smile and you have mini squares on your teeth!

Don't be embarrased!! I brushed my teeth at lunch from 3rd grade to my senior year! And i never had braces. I just wanted to have clean teeth and good breath. I had friends who were not fortunate enough to have dental insurance and I swore i would never have teeth like them.

And honestly, in my younger years, when one student saw you brushing your teeth, it kinda spread like a epidemic and everyone was brushing there teeth after lunch.

I would rather hang out with you, whom having brushed her teeth, would be much more pleasing than someone smacking away on some gum.

brush to your delight!
Reply:just drink loads of water
Reply:I agee with emmajean. In my sons school many people brush teeth at break/lunch. But if you feel you cant, you can get, from vending machines in public loos little balls like little toothbrushes that you chew to clean your mouth. Not as good as brushing but better than nothing. I've tried them and theu quite good. Worth a try.
Reply:my friend used to be allowed a few minutes out of some lessons to go brush her braces in the girls loos after break times. maybe you could do this? talk to your form teacher or head of year, i'm sure they'll understand you can't do it during break as you might get made fun of.
Reply:GIRL...BRUSH YOURR TEETH WHERE EVER YOU WANT ...LOL I DIDNT WANT PEOPLE SEEING ME BRUSHING MY TEETH EITHER BUTI WANT B.E.A UTIFUL TEETH SO I DO IT!! MY FRIENDS THAT HAVE BRACES DONT BRUSH THEIR TEETH AFTER THEY EAT SO WHEN THEY SMILE THEY HAVE PLAQUE ALL OVER..ITS GROSS..GIRL JUST DO IT! WHO CARES

Brushing teeth to long bad?

I brush my teeth approx 5minutes every session, which is twice a day. Is that to long? I don't brush hard, I'm just not getting the results, it seems the longer i brush, the yellower my teeth seem to be, they just don't seem to whiten, i used to have those perfect white teeth (no pun intended) but not, over time they seem to yellowin, not decay, but not the best smile.

Thank you in advance.

I am using an electric toothbrush, the Oral B Vitality for about 6 weeks.

Brushing teeth to long bad?
You are brushing your teeth to long which can make the enamel on your teeth wear out quicker. The rule of thumb for the length of time to brush teeth: say the "Happy Birthday" song twice in your head and then stop brushing!
Reply:if you brush for too long you can brush away your enamal and if you brush too hard your gums can bleed. You should brush 2 a day for about 3 mins and floss once.
Reply:Maybe your real problem is obsessive compulsive
Reply:No, over brushing shouldn't be a problem. If you feel any more uncertainty about it, then you should just lessen your time.
Reply:your not supposed to brush very long or hard, you damage your enamel over the long term with ferrocious cleaning.

you should be able to sing 'happy birthday' in your head twice, also just put enough pressure on your teeth to clean the surface. floss to get those close spots.

your teeth can get yellow if you wear out the enamel.
Reply:cuz when u brush to long u kill th coroma or something like that which is on your teeth and ur teeth are unprotected and its easir for them to get dirty/yellowish Dont brush for to long i know what u mean
Reply:The brushing guidelines say to brush for two minutes. Personally, I don't think that's long enough. I usually brush for five minutes too. The key is not too brush too hard, which you seem to have under control.

As for the yellowing...do you drink colas, coffee, or even things like grape juice? Those can all yellow the teeth over time. So does smoking. Have you had to take antibiotics? They yellow the teeth as well. My daughter used the Crest whitestrips and they REALLY work well! Give them a try.

The Oral B is a good brush. I could never go back to manual again! lol
Reply:I always brush that long!! Enamel is the hardest substance in the body, a soft nylon bristle can wear it out. If your gums bleed, it's because you haven't been brushing well. Brush long, but don't use abrasive toothpaste. (I usually do my long brush without toothpaste...shorter brushings with toothpaste for fluoride treatments... also I never get my teeth "professionally polished." That really wears the enamel. My teeth are shade B1, the lightest natural shade; you can go a tad lighter with bleaching)

Kids brushing teeth at school?

Has anyone ever had a problem with the teachers of your children not allowing your child to brush their teeth after lunch ... I have not had this problem before my daughter was in pre-k and kindergarten and they did not have a problem with her excusing herself after lunch to go brush her teeth now this year she is in 1st grade and she says the teacher is not allowing her to brush her teeth and she is not allowed to go to the restroom unless it is a group bathroom time .. does anyone know if it is unallowed for children to brush their teeth after lunch at school or is this just a classroom policy .. i am wanting to write the teacher a note but i am unsure ... i havnt had this problem before with the past years in school or in her daycare that she attends during the summer.

Kids brushing teeth at school?
I would talk to the teacher.....nicely. If you start off antagonistically, you won't get anywhere. She may have a really good reason why. Maybe they do math right after lunch and she doesn't want your daughter to miss the first 5 minutes every day. Maybe the bathroom is down a long hallway and the first graders aren't allowed to go by themselves. If it's a reason like this, I don't think there's much you can do. You can't expect a teacher to cater to one child when there's 20 more in the room. BUT if she's just being difficult, you'll know when she can't give you a good reason. Then you may be justified in pushing the issue.

Most kids have recess after lunch. If your daughter does, maybe she could brush her teeth during recess. You could put her toothbrush and paste into her lunchbox.
Reply:Well the only time anyone has wanted to brush their teeth after lunch at my school is because they have braces... That's why I brush my teeth during school... But them not letting your child do so is very odd..
Reply:ummm well if your daughter has braces then i think its a good idea to brush her teeth after lunch that what they did at my school, but if u feel unhappy and it is a MUST have for your child to brush her teeth then go ahead and write the note or go up to the school
Reply:ask the principal, and if it's some kind of asinine rule, go to the school board and demand that the rule be changed
Reply:The first graders are probably not allowed to go to the bathroom alone for safety reasons (I would guess that the bathroom is much farther away than it was in preschool and pre-k) so I can see why a special trip for your daughter to brush her teeth can't really happen. The teacher isn't going to change around the whole class' schedule just so your daughter can brush her teeth after lunch. It's nice that she is in the habit of doing that (good for her teeth obviosuly) but most kids do NOT brush their teeth at school which is why there isn't a time scheduled to do so.

Maybe she could wait to brush her teeth until her class does make a trip to the bathroom or just wait until she gets home from school. I really wouldn't reccomend making a big deal out of this to the school.
Reply:Well when I went to school, we all HAD to brush our teeth after lunch...the whole class had brushes and everything LOL.

I don't know how they organize lunch at her school, but I assume they eat first and then go play. She can have her tooth brush in her lunch box and go to the bathroom to brush her teeth after she eats and before she goes to play that way it doesn't take class time.

hope that helps

*cheers*
Reply:i brushed my teeth at school when i was younger and talk to the principal
Reply:As a teacher, I know that it is hard to corral 20 plus children, and for safety reasons, the teacher may not feel comfortable letting your child go by herself. She is also missing part of teaching time. I would stick to the two times a day brushing or have her brush when she gets home instead. You do not want to make a big deal and make you child feel uncomfortable about it. When a child enters school, there are some rules they will have to abide by and it is really impossible to bend the rules for each individual need. I commend her for having such great brushing habits though.

I do allow my students (5th grade) to brush their teeth if needed but usually it is because of braces. They can go to the bathroom on their own fairly safely.

Brushing your teeth?

Ok , I have a stupid debate with my husband. I need some answers. I say you should brush your teeth in the morning wether you eat something or not. He says you should only brush your teeth after you eat something. I think you should brush no matter what. Like say you get up and want to go out to breakfast. He will not brush his teeth until he gets back, I do before I leave. And like work, I usually don't eatr until I have been at work for awhile. According to his poilcy, I would have to go to work with not brushed teeth. So what;s the right answer?

Brushing your teeth?
Here are 2 links I found.

This link talks about brushing twice a day.

http://dentistry.about.com/od/dentalfact...

This link doesn't say to brush after every meal, because it's too intense for your teeth and gums, but also to brush twice a day.

http://www.hindustanlink.com/beautytex/d...

After sleeping and having dragon breath, you should be doing something. You got germs that have been in your mouth all night long. Mouth wash (minimal) before you kiss me, mister!

Also... between the both of you, who has the better dental visits?
Reply:You are both right, you should brush your teeth first thing in the morning because of the bacteria that collected during the night and you should brush after each meal :)

Its a tie!
Reply:I would brush my teeth wether or not I was eating something. If I was going out for breakfast I would brush my teeth before I left the house. Not brushing my teeth would make me feel gross. So I agree with you.
Reply:Wow... I brush after. -.- Brushing before you eat is just stupid.
Reply:really there is no right answer. whatever suits ones fancy. some like to brush before they eat, some like to brush after. as for me i brush mine before i elave the house, when i come home from school and before bed. i have a tight schedule and i fit it in. people do things different
Reply:When I go somewhere before breakfast, I brush. Because I don't want to have bad breath!
Reply:I was always told by many dentists to brush your teeth after every meal for 3 minutes and in the morning.
Reply:If you eat before brushing your teeth in the morning, the muck inside you mouth goes down with the food.

Clean you teeth and mouth when you wake up and before going to bed is the minimum.
Reply:I believe it's a good idea to brush your teeth in the morning, even if you haven't had a meal yet. Not only does it clean your teeth, it helps get rid of that morning breath. The ideal method would be to brush your teeth first thing in the morning, and then after each meal there after.
Reply:i think ppl should brush their teeth whether they eat or not, just becuz it keeps your breath fresh in the morning.
Reply:Your body detoxes at night causing a film in the mouth, sometimes coating the tongue. Plaque also builds at night. Then of course there is the foul smell of morning breathe.
Reply:He's just being stubborn with you. When you sleep, bacteria form in your mouth. Brushing when you get up makes sense, if you are not going to eat right away. If so, you could wait. But then you could brush again after you eat! I wouldn't want to be too close to your husband in the morning, yuk! Besides, you can't overbrush your teeth!

Why are you letting him bully you?
Reply:You need to brush whether you eat or not. Yes it is a good idea to brush after you eat to remove food particles and minimize the bacteria that causes plaque. Even if you don't eat you will have bacteria and bacteria replicate even without the presence of carbohydrates. Even if you think you brushed well before you got to bed.....you may have missed a areas where you are more susceptible to greater build of plaque which will lead to calcified plaque called tartar.

I could go on forever about bacteria and their optimal environment to reproduce, etc. Let me know if you want more info.

Tell your husband he needs to brush regardless whether he eats or not. Tell him morning breath is cause by the bacteria that need to get brushed off.

A Dental Hygienist.
Reply:You should always wait at least 30 mins after eating before brushing and leave at least an hour if you have had fruit, or other highly acidic food. This is because after eating the enamel on your teeth is temporarily softened and brushing your teeth in this vunerable state will harm them: you will literally brush away the enamel. Never brush your teeth after being sick as your stomach acid is particularly strong. After 30 mins to an hour your teeth will have remineralised and will be safe to brush.

The plaque bacteria on your teeth live off the sugar you eat. When they are fed they produce acid as a waste product and it is this acid that rots your teeth. If you brush before breakfast you will remove much of the plaque bacteria and therefore when you eat breakfast you are not feeding the plaque. Chew sugar free gum with xylitol after breakfast as this help by stopping plaque bacteria being able to cling to your teeths surface.
Reply:Brush in the morning! Gross, your bad breath would be all over.
Reply:You should brush your teeth right after breakfast. First thing in the morning is alright too, but I like to do it after breakfast so I do not have to brush twice.

Brushing teeth/gum?

One of my teeth (first or second premolar?) is hurting me when i brush my teeth. My teeth feels a lil higher in the front and everytime i brush my teeth when i hit the gum part in the front it feels like i'm hitting a nerve or something... it hurts... i dunno why.. i'm 18 years old btw, i think i had all my baby teeths out already =x

Its just the front of my tooth and the gum is a lil open/ seperated... i dunno how to explain it. You can't notice it and its not a big deal but it hurts. I don't even think i would of noticed it if not for it hurting when i brush my teeth.

Its in this area:

http://img146.imageshack.us/my.php?...

Is the gum going to grow back or something so it doesn't hurt after a while? I think its because i brush my teeth 2 hard. Should i go see a dentist?

Brushing teeth/gum?
Yes, go see a dentist. Your gums could be receding a little, exposing a bit of the root, which makes it really sensitive to touch and/or cold and heat.

That said, it might just be that you have a little cut or a cold sore coming in. You will know if it clears up while you're waiting for your dentist appointment.
Reply:For goodness sake, go see a dentist man!!
Reply:dont brush down on ur gums it will cause them to recede brush up lightly and the gum should grow back according to my aunt (shes a dental tech) and when u brush hard ur bending the bristles and not really cleaning your teeth very well b/c the bristles arent going on or in the crevaces of your teeth
Reply:I would most definitely recommend going to a dentist anytime you have a concern, it is always best to be safe than sorry. For now I would just recommend brushing lighter and use a antibacterial mouthwash to help keep the area clean, or else rinse with salt water...which is also suppost to be good for any sores on the mouths or gums. Goodluck!

I have had a lot lighter period and lately experiancing nausea expecly while brushing teeth, could I be?

Pregnant? I've never experiance, bad nausea while brushing my teeth till just recently. I took a test 9 days after period was due, and came out neg. the next day, I started cramps, and period. But this period is not the same as its been. I noticed the first night, it was not bad at all! and I usually have to wake up 7 times a night to go pee, due to the blood making me feel that way, but I just had to do that once. Lately I've been very tired, and like yesterday I slept for many hours of the day, and right now, even thoe I had a good night sleep, I feel quite tired. These are all new to me. What should I do?

I have had a lot lighter period and lately experiancing nausea expecly while brushing teeth, could I be?
Those do sound like pregnancy symptoms. If you ovulated very late (or normally have short luteal phase), the neg pregnancy test could be explained by it being too early in pregnancy. I'd test again (wait until it's been 3 days or so from last test). If neg again, you might want to check in w/ your doc to make sure that all is well.
Reply:u know i went through the same thing this last month January at the beginning i was tired alot finding my self napping through the day time after a good 8hrs at night i was still tired i notice i really dont have much energy through the day time anymore i went to the Dr and I'm fine everything is normal but my pregnancy test r saying negative and my period was crazy it was like i really wasn't on it but 1day and not bad...i would say go see a Dr I'm going back to see my doctor...but hubby and i r trying to have a baby been trying for 3yrs
Reply:You might be pregnant! You should check out this site before testing. It will tell you which brands are better then others and all about the tests limitations.

Good luck!!

What's the longest you've gone without taking a shower or brushing your teeth or going to the bathroom?

Bathroom: In Boy Scout camp the bathrooms were so gross I held it in for over a week.

Brushing teeth: I think the longest I went without brushing my teeth was a few days when I was a kid.

Shower: Maybe the longest I went was a few days when I was really sick. A guy I know in Iraq went ten days without showering, lol. Sucks

Brushing teeth, just 3 days when I didn't bring a toothbrush while camping. I just rinsed with beer.

Bathroom? Well, if I gotta go, I go - never hold it in. Maybe I've held it for an hour, but a gross bathroom would never deter me!

It's 2006, why are we still brushing our teeth?

Aren't there pastes, protective covers that can go for months without brushing?

I find it quite a waste of time to brush teeth for 4-9 minutes everyday.

It's 2006, why are we still brushing our teeth?
This is a controversial subject indeed. Victor Frankl reports

from his many-years spent in a concentration camp during

WWII that the inmates had no problem with teeth even though

they had extremely bad dental hygiene.

There are groups out there on the internet who advocate

using no toothpaste when brushing teeth.

Well let's hope someone with more insight reads Yahoo Answers.
Reply:Why don't you found the NBTA???

Every dentist will thank you!

Reply:you don't have to brush your teeth for 4-9 minutes it's only 1-2 minutes...duh
Reply:i agree with powerpuff girl, this question is just pointless, unless you yourself has a solution
Reply:Imagine how fuzzy your teeth would feel if you didn't brush them for several months. Yuck !

I sometimes noticed blood while brushing teeth?

I notice blood during brushing my teeth, but there has no pain at all. I aslo feel bad oddur in my mouth, for which I embressed to talk to somebody. Some of my friends advised to go for skelling. I am afarid that is not also a permanent remady . One of my neighur had his teeth skelling done , but again reaccur. Please advise me

I sometimes noticed blood while brushing teeth?
You're brushing too hard.

As for the odor, that could be gingivitis. See your dentist.
Reply:go see your dentist. you might have infected or inflamed gums. blood isn't normal while brushing if you have healthy gums and teeth.
Reply:that's a good sign that you are still alive
Reply:You might want to consider a softer tooth brush bristles. I'd recommend massaging your gums with your tooth brush and making sure you floss daily. Also try brushing your tongue to help with any bad mouth oder and a mouth rinse is always helpful. None the less, go talk with your dentist
Reply:dont brush too hard
Reply:perfectly normal... try changing a softer toothbrush
Reply:Brushing too hard would only hurt your gums, they become swollen and infected...thus, you get bad breath....use a good toothpaste or gumpaste like Pyodontyl which helps in combating gum disease. Dont forget to visit your dentist because you may already have teeth cavities where all the odor causing bacteria thrive. Dont wait till it hurts...an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure..take care and goodluck!!!
Reply:so this happens to me as well. first i would go to the dentist. it os possible that you have the start of gengivitis. but get a softer toothbrush and make sure you are brushing correctly. I thought i was my my dentist showed me that i really wasnt. And also try to start flossing more. It would prob be best to floss at night though because of the bleeding. and about the odor...try mouth wash and brushing your tongue as well...hope this helps =)

When to start brushing teeth?

my daughters first tooth has just started to come through. when should i start brushing her teeth? do i have to wait for them all to come through or is it just when the first one becomes more visable? thanks

When to start brushing teeth?
i was told by my midwife to start brushing them as soon as they come throw you can get a very soft tooth brush and baby tooth paste from mothercare you only need a tiny amount as she might start to swallow it so just avery very tiny amount if she is like my daughter she loved it she cryed when i took the brush out .if your still not show asked your midwife .

good luck
Reply:u can start brushing just now if u like that what i am doing with my son to encourage his teeth to come thro

there is tooth paste for 0-3yrs old from auqa fresh just need 2 look out for it in any shops as well as a baby tooth brush
Reply:You can start brushing her teeth as early as you want, as not just the teeth need to be brushed, but also the gums.

Check the baby aisle at your local discount store, there should be special toothbrushes and toothpaste just for babies.
Reply:Parents should start brushing their children's teeth as soon as they appear in their mouth. It is also a good idea to use a clean finger or damp cloth to wipe a child's gums before teeth even appear. Flossing should be started after two teeth have erupted next to each other to prevent cavities between these teeth. Flossing is especially important for the molars as they are generally closer to each other than the front teeth. Oral hygiene becomes more important for children who drink a lot of juices and eat more sweet items.

Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and a very small pea-sized amount of toothpaste. Milk and juice during the day are fine if you are brushing your son's teeth 2-3 times per day. Do not send your son to bed with a bottle of anything other than water.

As long as teeth are present, tooth decay is a concern. Sometimes brushing and flossing a child's teeth can be a battle of wills. Deciduous (baby) teeth play a very important role in child development and they should be given proper attention and care.
Reply:hiya

i started brushing my childrens teeth from when they started coming through. i'vw always used a toothpaste called Milkteeth its available in most supermarkets. i'm now pregnant with baby number 6 and i'll do exactly the same with this one.

good luck
Reply:It is never too early. You can buy specially soft brushes for baby teeth. Bless her, got her first tooth. Hope she didn't suffer too much.

My middle son is 46 and still has all his teeth intake, never had a filling. The other two have excellent teeth too. Except they had to wear braces for slightly protruding. But they both have strong teeth.
Reply:as soon as they appear then wash them with a special baby toothbrush. Mint toothpaste can be quite harsh and in my experience babies hate the sharp taste so try a child friendly strawberry or orange flavour and brush away
Reply:nah start now. its a good habbit to get into and wean her on to and not spring it on her later.
Reply:you should start as soon as possible... there are baby tooth paste that are safe for babies to swallow... just read the lables at the store and you'll find the right one... and dont foget to brush your babys gums too... its nice to get them use to it early... my daughter just turned two and has been brushing her own teeth for awhile now and her teeth are healthy and sparkling... :)
Reply:Mine hasnt any teeth as yet (6 months), but I've already bought a box of Bennets dental wipes (flavoured). You can wipe her little tooth/teeth with it as well as the gums and inside the cheeks.

Maybe you should wait a bit before the brushing scene for all teeth to come through, or maybe just before she's 1, so she can learn to brush her teeth all on her own.

Ta

Mwah!
Reply:As soon as they get them you should start brushing them, just to get them used to it if nothing else. Start when the first one comes through, you don't have to wait for them all to break through.

You can buy the finger toothbrushes, or the step 1 for babies, they're very soft and won't irritate their gums even when they're teething. You can also start off by using toothpaste on your finger if you want to.

Buy the toothpaste especially formulated for babies. It contains less fluoride and is milder tasting for them. I would definitely recommend starting sooner rather than later, as well as better dental care you're teaching good habits.
Reply:Start now!, its a tooth and if you dont start brushing it what do you think could happen. It will decay, if you wait for the rest to appear then imagine the state of the first teeth. It also helps bub get into the habit of brushing. The toothpaste is not necessary at this stage but if you want to you have to use a minute amount of paste and it is the 0 to 5 yrs one.
Reply:you should brush the teeth when they are starting to have teeth.

Does using listerine after brushing teeth with whitening toothpaste prevent whitening from working?

I have a five-minute teeth-brushing routine:

1. Floss

2. Use Anti-Plaque Before-Brushing Rinse

3. Brush with with toothpaste with whitening agent (Crest, etc.)

4. Rinse with Listerine with Anti-Tartar control

Does using the Listerine mouthwash wash away the whitening agent and prevent it from working? I know off-the-shelf whitening toothpaste does work miracles, but I haven't noticed much whitening after months of using it...

Does using listerine after brushing teeth with whitening toothpaste prevent whitening from working?
NO IT DOES NOT
Reply:Honestly, I cant say if it does or doesnt, but I have been using whitening toothpaste and Listerine for about 4 months and I havent seen a difference either. Have you tried calling your dentist and asking one of the nurses?? They should probably know, since Im sure you arent the only one wondering that. If ya find out, lemme know too! Good luck, hun!

Does anyone else hate brushing their teeth in public? it has always seemed quite an intimate act to me.?

I feel brushing teeth is very private, if you are like me and brush with all the froth coming out etc you do not want people to see this. Even a new boyfriend was asked to leave the bathroom when I needed to brush my teeth even though I had just had a shower in front of him.

Reply:no i dont matter but i only brush my teeth at school and in the bathroom anyway so lol.
Reply:When we travel on the road, I am not afraid to brush my teeth in the rest areas. It also inspires other people doing the same thing.
Reply:My husband isn't welcome to be in the bathroom with me at all, no exceptions! I don't want him to see me pluck my eyebrows and put on makeup--he's supposed to think I just magically transform!

But if there's a show I don't want to miss, I'll brush my teeth right out there in the living room in front of both my husband and my daughter, with so much froth dripping in great dollops down my front I look like a rabid dog. Isn't that funny what individuals consider intimate and what they don't? Don't worry, you're not weird.
Reply:Whew. I thought I was the only one who preferred privacy while brushing my teeth!

I know exactly how you feel. I avoid any conflict by brushing my teeth when I am showering. Since I almost always shower alone (maybe hubby joins in from time to time), I can brush my teeth in private to my heart's content!

*Thanks for posting. I feel better knowing I'm not the only one!*
Reply:Your own home and family isn't "in public". And for that matter, neither is a "public" washroom. And tooth brushing is not the same as sitting on the toilet.

But we all have different comfort levels, and it's not for me to tell you what to do. As long as you don't try to stop me from brushing my teeth when I need to.

Should brushing teeth in the bathrooms at work be allowed?

Personally, I think it's disgusting when I walk into a bathroom and see someone hunched over the sink brushing there teeth. This should be left for at home not at work! Other wise they need to make OTHER bathrooms specifically for personal hygiene.

Should brushing teeth in the bathrooms at work be allowed?
Ewwww, I agree, it's so gross!! My co-worker brushes her teeth in the ladies' room every day, and I totally want to barf just thinking about it. Besides, dentists now agree that brushing your teeth twice a day and flossing nightly is all you need for healthy teeth and gums, so i think people who brush their teeth at work are OCD and strange in addition to gross.
Reply:A few years down the road, let's see who still has her teeth, fizzygurl and ravoken or the 'gross' lady who brushes aft err every meal.

Actually what is disgusting is not people brushing their teeth, it's people walking around with food stuck in their teeth. Report It

Reply:you need to brush your teeth more often. You spend 8 hours a day at work, and have at least one meal and don't brush your teeth? Yuck
Reply:There's nothing wrong with people brushing their teeth at work. I'm sure the people you see brushing their teeth already brushed them once that morning, and just need a refresher during the day.
Reply:I disagree with you. I would rather see someone brushing there teeth than walking around with bad breath
Reply:Why is it bad for someone to take care of their teeth at work? This is perfectly normal to brush your teeth after each meal and if you are at work I don't know how you expect someone to brush their teeth without using the bathroom to do it? Would you rather they did it at their desk and spit the toothpaste into their wastebasket out in the open? Sorry but bathrooms are made for things like brushing your teeth, washing your hands and for going to the toilet.
Reply:You prefer bad breath, food stuck in teeth, and a dingy smile?

From firsthand knowledge, people with braces must brush after they eat or it cause problems. As long a people are discreet and clean out the sink when they are done I don't see a problem.
Reply:after lunch i could see that, but not before
Reply:Well isn't a BATHROOM for personal hygiene? do you fix your hair? wash your hands? USE THE TOILET? You my dear have no life and are worried about really dumb things. Wiping your behind is disgusting should we wait until we get home to do that too?
Reply:Hey if they wipe their a**sses in the bathroom, I guess they can brush their teeth ! Besides, I wish Louis at work would brush his teeth anytime/anywhere ! Count your blessings!
Reply:If you can take a dump at work, why not?
Reply:I personally think there's nothing wrong with it for 3 reasons.

1.) What's the differance? You brush your teeth in the bathroom at home. So this bathroom at work has a few extra stalls. Oh well.

2.) Dentists recommend 3 brushings a day after each meal. What is corporate America to do after lunch during the week?

3.) Why is it disgusting to see someone brush their teeth? Good hygiene doesn't usually urk the average person.
Reply:How is it disgusting? It's in the bathroom....where far more disgusting things are taking place in there. I have braces and I will brush my teeth in my work's bathroom. Some people may have just had lunch and have food in their teeth or maybe they have bad breath! Get over it!
Reply:I think its gross you don't brush your teeth!
Reply:yes it is good to see your co workers are clean and care about their hygiene. and to comment on what someone else answered, it's not "OCD" to brush your teeth at work, it's actually very normal for a person to want their teeth to be clean after eating or drinking coffee which can make your breath stink especially if you haven't ate in a while.

my advice to you, maybe you should brush your teeth after your lunch brake as well!

Drinking cola then brushing teeth... The pH conspirasy?

Ok, so the theory runs that cola drinks have a pH of between 4 - 2.5, and this makes the enamel on your teeth fragile, so brushing your teeth immediatly would damage your teeth.

Question: Is this also true of Diet Cola?

Drinking cola then brushing teeth... The pH conspirasy?
That's crappy. It's a myth. I have been doing it for 6 years on average and nothing goes wrong with my teeth
Reply:probably yeah
Reply:no no no sorry!
Reply:Considering that the only difference between regular and diet cola is that diet contains aspartame instead of high fructose corn syrup, I see no reason why the pH of diet would differ any. Use your head.

I think that drinking citrus juices like grapefruit juice would be more dangerous, however, as they are probably more acidic than soda.
Reply:Cola doesn't have a pH that low. The CO2 makes it acidic, but nowhere near 2.5

Also, acid doesn't make your teeth brittle with only one exposure. You have to soak it with the drink so the enamel absorbs the fluids and weakens.

Diet Cola is basically the same as regular cola except it uses an artificial sugar that your body doesn't metabolize.
Reply:Haha, that chick loves cheese

i've never heard of this.

its interesting

i dont really know about it, but i would love to hear more
Reply:yes it is really bad for you stop doing that
Reply:the carbonation is the cause...and the sugar is second reason soda is bad for your teeth. Constant contact for some period would be required for the enamel to flake off if you brushed. This MYTH is BUSTED.
Reply:it dont matter what type of soda really... it can still damage ur teeth just by what is in the soda... it is better to brush ur teeth right after u get done drinking any soda...by letting the soda sit on ur teeth it can damage it...
Reply:This is not a conspiracy. Not only does this eventually cause your teeth to lose enamel, but it is a known fact that it also is causing bone loss at a much earlier age because of phosphates.
Reply:I vaguely remember going over something similar to this in dental hygiene lecture and it may very well be true but I cannot be 100% sure. I do remember something about pH and bacteria...but again, cannot exactly remember. I may try to find it in my textbook and repost if I do.

Rather than brushing immediately, swish and rinse with water after consuming a soda/candy/etc....that's what we tell people to do if they don't have a toothbrush handy.

When i brush my teeth i am going to turn off the water while brushing. Also turn my computer off when not in?

when brushing teeth i am going to turn off water while brushing. Also turn off my computer when not in use. Inform others of things they can also do to help. Get energy saving light bulbs and make sure everything is turned off when not in use and especially when I leave my house.

Check out terrapass.com to help offset your carbon dioxide use. You pay for a "pass" based on how much carbon dioxide your car uses (or other things use - see website) and they take the money and invest it in wind power. Ofcourse, always reduce, reuse, recycle!!!

Try not to use the ac/heater unless you really need to.

If you do make sure to keep it at a modest temperature (68 degrees)

Whats the point of brushing teeth in the morning?

You brush your teeth first thing in the morning. Then you eat. So what was the point? Wouldn't you first eat in the morning, and then brush your teeth? Then the brushing and toothpaste actually has an effect! What do you think?

Whats the point of brushing teeth in the morning?
You would be amazed at how much plaque and bacteria has accumulated on your teeth overnight. Without air in there, or at least a minimal amount, it is the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. That bacteria is trying to eat away at your teeth.

So eat first, and then brush your teeth. Therefore, you brush off the plaque from the food and the plaque from overnight growth. I think that's a great idea!
Reply:never question brushing your teeth. you should look for occasions just to do it. always brush your teeth in the morning because of morning breath and saliva thickens in your mouth when you sleep so you tend to get a film on your teeth by morning. don't be gross. just go brush your teeth.
Reply:Yes i agree, but i guess no matter how many times u brush ur teeth, they get cleaner, in better conditon, helthier and whiter. Why not brush them when u get up, after eating and night? And besides, did anyone say that you do have to brush them before breakfast, isnt it when u want inthe morning?
Reply:I eat, then brush my teeth.

Fantastically ingenius plan, isn't it?!?!
Reply:ewww your suposed to brush in the morning and after every meal-it gets rid of that yellow stuff on your teeth(it has a name-duh) and it keeps them from getting brown and rotting ask your dentist-ohh and I think that might have sounded mean-sorry
Reply:Ew! Don't you ever have that DISGUSTING morning breath when you wake up??!! Well, I do, so I HAVE TO brush my teeth in the morning. Well, mostly my tongue, but definitely also my teeth. Yup. I actually brush before eating, eat, and then rinse with mouthwash. And generally I carry mints and gum with me just in case.
Reply:Brush your teeth after breakfast. . it gets rid of nasty morning breath!
Reply:first off it gets rid of morning breath which stinks
Reply:I hear you. You want what you do to have purpose and meaning. Question: is there someone who shares your morning breakfast table? Someone you love? Why not present a sweet smelling, fresh mouth to this person instead of (dun, dun, dun) morning breath?

Your morning coffee or bagel doesn't care what you smell like, but that someone special will delight in the scent of toothpaste over (dun, dun, dun) morning breath.

No one sharing your morning news? skip the brush till you're through with the toast. Just don't forget to floss!
Reply:Well, I do see your point, Mayne.

But mainly, your breath smells absolutely atrocious in first thang in the morning. UNLESS you have Stellar breath first thang in the morning, you will most likely require to brush your tooths, because you will likely spew a horrible, atramentous cloud.

Women find this cloud to be utterly repugnant, yo!!!!!

Hey dude- seriously, if you brush your Tooths at nite with that Colgate 12 hour crap, it works well.

Alzo alzo, it depends if you snore, if you open your mouth when you breathe during sleep, eck cetera.

But I do acknowledge your point.

But with me, I have OCD and what not. I actually wash my hands both before and after having eaten. It is not strange for me to brush my Tooths before I eat..so long as it isn't IMMEDIATELY before I began gorging on various Foods, Dudes.

Take care, dude yo!
Reply:You know that funny taste and smell in your mouth when you get up in the morning is actually all them there little bacteria that have spent the night in your mouth partying. They get all drunked up on your saliva, and some of them pee, and some poop, and you wake up with bad breath. That's why you want to brush first thing...
Reply:HERE'S AN EXPERIMENT YOU CAN TRY.

BUY SOME AGENT COOL BUE(LISTERINE), AND USE IT TO REVEAL ALL THE BLUE DENTALPLAQUE BEFORE YOU BRUSH.

IT WILL BE FASCINATING. TONS AND TONS OF FILTHY BLUE BACTERIA ALL OVER YOUR TEETH AND GUMS.

WHY HAVE ALL THAT CRAP IN YOUR MOUTH WHEN YOU HAVE BREAKFAST?
Reply:If you are staying in and just sitting in your kitchen to eat your breakfast then you certainly may wait until after you eat to brush your teeth. However if you are going out for breakfast or are running short on time it is a good idea to brush your teeth first. After all it is easier to eat on the run than it is to brush you teeth on the run.
Reply:would you like to have breakfast while your mouth smells???
Reply:I've always wondered that too....

I brush my teeth after I eat anyways
Reply:get good breath..

Ummm brushing teeth..?

I have lost intrest in brushing my teeth (not that its suppose to be fun) I just dont feel like doing it, but now the results of not brushing are starting to effect me. What can I do?

Ummm brushing teeth..?
Get a new tooth brush in a color you really like, and some new tooth paste, maybe with stipes on it , a good tasting mouth wash, and a pretty glass for the water. Take it in the bathroom, light a good smelling candle, turn on your favorite music and go to work, so to speak.
Reply:That exact situation happend to me! and i also asked this question. What I had to do to solve this, was i HAD to brush my teeth when I got up in the morning, and right before I went to bed. I just had to make it a habit. It took me a while, though. It takes 30 days to make a habit. But you really should begin to brush your teeth twice a day again, and then floss at least once a day. I know, brushing teeth isnt supposed to be something your looking forward to. Its not supposed to be so much fun. But maybe if you've lost interest, you could brush your teeth while watching tv, or listening to music, or reading, or just whatever you enjoy doing! Remember, it only takes two minutes.
Reply:Start brushing again.

Buy an electric toothbrush if you dont like actually brushing them by hand. And make sure to floss as well.

Other than that, dont be lazy, You only get one set of teeth and you dont want to be a young person with dentures, or a mouth full of rotted teeth!
Reply:Then get an electric tooth brush.. you need to brush your teeth or you will lose them because bacteria will infest your teeth and eventually eat away your bone if you do not take care of them properly... Why be a slacker?

How can I make brushing my 18th mos teeth easier on both him and me?

He didn't get any teeth at all until he was a little over a year, so brushing teeth is still a fairly new thing to him. He likes to eat the paste and but hates when I brush...I try to brush real lightly but once I start he will not open his mouth again... He has 8-9 teeth already and so he really does need to have them brushed...but he just won't let me!

How can I make brushing my 18th mos teeth easier on both him and me?
Let him do it...You brush your teeth and get him to join in...My little boy does this..Then I finish them up for him..He thinks it is a game...Make it fun...
Reply:LOL sounds like my 2 year old..she loves to eat the paste and not brush..Just be patient and teach him how
Reply:they have really cute and fun shaped toothbrushes for toddlers @ target. also there's a battery operated see-thru "elec" toothbrush that has gears and things u can watch. its how i got my kidz 2 brush. gl
Reply:My son is 2 1/2 and he STILL doesnt like me to brush his teeth very much...he puts up a fight but I still make him do it....What works really well for me is I let HIM brush first (with no toothpaste, just water) and then when he has been doing it for a little while, I ask him if I can have a turn....then I put a little bit of toothpaste on it and I let him stand on the bathroom counter and watch in the mirror while I'm doing it so he can see all of his teeth, and then to get him to open wide I tell him "Roar like a lion" and that gets his mouth open wide enough for me to get the toothbrush in...and if he tries to shut his mouth I tell him to look at ALL his teeth in the mirror while I brush and see if he has as many as a lion has!!! Then, when I'm done with the back teeth I tell him to smile with his teeth shut and I get the front teeth, and then I tell him to OPEN WIDE and I have him tilt his head back so I can get behind his front teeth and he thinks its funny if I tilt my head back with him.....

You can go to the store and let him pick out whatever toothbrush and toothpaste he wants, that may give him incentive to want to use them...another thing that works REALLY well for me, is I tell him that I'm gonna make "bubbles" in his mouth and he gets to spit them out in the sink...(the "bubbles" are just the toothpaste getting foamy and then he gets to spit them in the sink), he thinks its hillarious, and it works every time!!

If he is REALLY putting up a fight and wont open or is being difficult, I tell him "FINE...you are gonna have cavity bugs in your mouth....thats YUCKY!!!" and I act like I'm putting his toothbrush away, it works EVERY time...cuz he HATES bugs so he wants me to get them with the toothbrush....

Good Luck....it can be hard sometimes, but dont back down, it is really important that our kids learn good dental hygiene at a young age!! Good Luck!! =)
Reply:Tell him that you want to tickle his teeth. Let him help. When he's all finished, give him a sticker for being a big boy! If it doesn't work, then you may just have to force him. Sounds horrible, I know. My daughter refused to let me brush her teeth when she was a toddler. I made her get them brushed anyway. As a result, we recently went in for her dental check up and she still remains cavity free at 5 years old! Also see about getting your son a vitamin from his doctor with floride, this will help prevent cavities.
Reply:Get an electric toothbrush from the character he watches most on TV. My dd didn't enjoy it much either until we bought a Dora electric toothbrush..changed our world! GL!
Reply:I let my 2 year old have his turn of brushing then I take my turn of brushing his teeth. I get him to open by asking who is in his mouth. I say, "Is Elmo in your mouth? Open up so I can brush him out!" He is eager to find out who is in his mouth (Every time it's someone different, Bob the Builder, Winnie the Pooh, etc). Also, have you told him why he needs to brush his teeth? Explain it simply. You're teeth are dirty and we need to clean them so that they don't get holes in them. It wouldn't hurt to have him pick out his toothbrush and toothpaste at the store. He might be more excited about the idea when he gets to chose the color he wants. (At the store give him two choices that are both okay with you. Anymore than two choices and it becomes confusing for him.) Good luck.
Reply:I bought my kids light up toothbrushes to show them how long to brush. Brushing with them is a great idea if they can brush their own teeth. If not then lay him down on his back and get the brush ready and just do silly faces for a little while then brush a little then silly faces again and brush. Brushing is the hardest thing to deal with besides potty training and other habits (terrible 2 and horrible 3's) Good Luck and remember children love attention and games so make it a game.
Reply:I like jennilee's answer its cute. Try her suggestion.
Reply:Routine. I get up every morning, say hi to my son tell him im taking a shower. Then i get out of the shower and bring him in the bathroom and we brush our teeth together. He loves it now and knows that when daddy gets out of the shower its time to brush our teeth. He actually looks forward to it.
Reply:When I brush my nieces teeth, I taught her to make the E sound that way, when she does it her front teeth are are close together and when she does it I do it with her she thinks it is a little game we play. When I am doing the back ones it is a little harder, b/c she wants to bite down, so usually I get her to open her mouth by openin' mine, while makin faces and then brush the back ones as quick as I can before she bites down. Once you get them in the routine it won't be so bad. Do it with them, they are like sponges they do everything we do.
Reply:I started my son on toothbrushing by having my hubby and I brush out teeth in front of him. He started brushing his own teeth pretty well just by watching us. I do follow up to make sure he is brushing well, but he hates when I try to brush his teeth for him. We have resorted to letting him watch television (normally we don't allow tv except for Sesame Street), and we have him watch tv in my lap while I brush his teeth. It has worked really well.
Reply:I started when my daughter had gums only and she is now 2 1/2 and it's still a struggle. Unfortunatey most nights I hold her limbs and if she cries at least her mouth is open.

I'll be checking other's answers for a better way.

Sometimes I have luck "looking for fun foods she ate that day". For example" I see the cookies, we have to clean those cookies out of your mouth."

Or I let her brush my teeth and I do hers. We do this for each side, front, back, top, and bottom

good luck
Reply:Tell me about it! Mine bites my fingers off !
Reply:My daughter has never particularly liked brushing her teeth, although she got her first tooth at about 3 months...

I always brush her teeth in the bath really good morning and night, and then again after she has her milk just before bed...

I sing her songs...

This is the way we brush our teeth, brush our teeth, brush our teeth.

This is the way we brush our teeth on a cold and frosty evening/morning (or whatever)...

She loves it and while we are singing I brush her teeth. She also has a turn...mummys turn, then Saiya's turn....

good luck...
Reply:Sometimes I told my son that the bug would eat his teeth if he doesn't or won't let me brush them. You should see how big he opens up his mouth. :-)
