Have a Dentist check it out. When you damage the gums, you do cause damage to the teeth (since the gums are holding the teeth). a Dentist takes care of your entire mouth, and it may be infected, In the meantime, use sensodyne toothpaste, rinse with lukewarm saltwater, and do not eat anything acidic or spicey. Also, take some Ibuprofen (if you can!) to help with the pain and swelling.

Make sure you have a soft bristle toothbrush and brush softly.

Hope this helps!
Reply:When I get sore gums I find TCP is wonderful, paticularly if you use it just before going to bed. Sometimes I dilute 1 to 5 and rinse my mouth and gums or put it on the sore spot with a cotton bud. Dilute tcp is also very good to gargle with if you have a sore throat. Again do it just before going to bed.
Reply:Its not uncommon to poke your gums with the toothbrush, especially if you are in a hurry and try to get the job over with quick. It might not hurt immediately, but might start hurting from the next day. Any mouth ulcer/bruise takes longer to heal since the inside of the mouth is moist constantly and the presence of bacteria. Just try to brush your teeth carefully, avoiding the bruised area and gargle with water, and mild mouthwash. It should heal on its own in less than a week.
