When do you start brushing babys teeth?

Again, my son has no teeth in yet..but should we massage his gums now before they come in to get him used to the idea?

also i know this is silly, but is there a such thing as baby tooth paste? or do you just use warm water..i know toothpaste alot of times is harmful if swallowed because of flouride... and obviously you cant teach a baby to gargle and spit...how did you start brushing baby teeth and how often?

When do you start brushing babys teeth?
Yes! You can start brushing/massaging an infant gums before they get teeth. My pediatrician recommended I do this in order to keep plaque from building up on the gums. It can also start good brushing habits... you know, get baby used to cleaning teeth at an early age! Just make sure you get a brush and paste made specifically for infants. Here is a site I found that lists some products... but I think you can find these same items anywhere baby food is sold!

The fourth one down (Orajel tooth and gum cleanser) is what I use for my infant! He loves the way the finger brush (soft bristles) feel on his gums and new teeth! It's also safe to swallow because there is no fluoride. It's fruit flavored too... so he really likes to have his teeth cleaned.

Hope that helps!! Take care!
Reply:as song as they get teeth brush them, there's no need to before that
Reply:Just use warm water. I brushed my kids as soon as there first tooth came in just using a soft cloth and warm water then eventually graduating to a tooth brush and warm water. My 7 year old and 2 year old now use a soft toothbrush and kids tooth paste.
Reply:3 months, you can find a toothpaste and toothbrush in the toothbrush section, but around the baby oil and such ( that is where I found mine in walmart) the toothpaste is safe to swallow and comes in different flavors. Babies have bad breath too, and germs...
Reply:They have products out there, like gum wipes before your baby's teeth come in, just so you can wipe away the bacteria. The one I've used is called Spiffies, and it has a little toothe fairy on it. Then when our daughters' teeth started coming in, we used Oral B stages for infants. After they're about two, we switched to Tom's toothpaste (strawberry flavored) for toddlers, which has less junk in it and is all natural and has the right amount of Flouride. By then you're child will know how to spit out the excess toothpaste. Good luck in your search.
Reply:There's a little rubber thing that fits over your finger. A baby toothbrush. it has tiny little soft teeth. You rub this on their gums just with water once they have teeth. At your 6 month visit, you might get a prescription for fluoride which you drip one drop on the baby's tongue 30 minutes before the baby eats or drinks. This you get only if your town water doesn't have fluoride.
Reply:That's a good question i asked myself. My doctor told me when the teeth come in that you should wipe them with a warm wash cloth to get the food off of them. when your son turns one you can buy infant tooth past with out fluoride...and use a baby toothbrush... other than that i clean my daughters teeth when i give her a bath... Good Luck..
Reply:As soon as they start to get teeth then start brushing them. There r toothpastes out on the market 4 babies but i guess u will just have to look around. Its been a while since i had my little one
Reply:waer is fine for a while and then there is safe child tooth paste...which I never used and it never hurt they learn to want to brush by watching you so liet the little one see you do it when he is older
Reply:Actually it is recommended to brush or wipe baby's gums. Early start against tooth decay.

With my first. I started out with just a wash cloth and water. Afterwards I used the finger brushes for babies. Then the baby tooth paste which isn't necessary at all. As my son got a few teeth I switched from finger brushes to baby brushes.
Reply:There is a tooth brush that you can slide on your index finger to brush you baby gum, tooth or teeth. I think they also have toothpaste for babies too.
Reply:That's not a stupid question at all. there is baby tooth paste, but you could also use just warm water. And you should start brushing their teeth as soon as they start coming in!!
Reply:you can massage the gums with a damp cloth but it isn't necessary.usually you don't need to brush until they have a few teeth and eat real food like around 10-12 mo. but you can buy gerber infant toothbrush(fingerbrush) and toothpaste it comes in a pack and you can find it anywhere. i started at 6 mo when my son got his first tooth i fingerbrushed it with his gerber toothpaste 1-2 a day. now he is 12mo and he has a big boy toothbrush(the dr said i could still use a washcloth though) he has 5 teeth and 2 on the way and i brush his teeth 1 a day and i let him do it 1 a day...he just bites on the tooth brush but i like him to practice!
