Hi i would have suggested brushing her teeth when she was around 1 years old as the teeth can still rot the same as yours can. You need to start brushing her teeth with a childrens toothbrush and childrens toothpaste.

As far as swallowing toothpaste goes check to see if there is fluoride in you water in your area if there isnt swallowing a small amount of toothpaste wont harm her just try not to use alot of toothpaste.
Reply:they do have special, flouride free toothpastes that are safe to swallow. I can't think of any brand names at the moment though. Just ask in your local pharmacy, they should be able to point you in the right direction.
Reply:you can but use only a very small amount of toothpaste , b`coz itcan irritate her young mouth
Reply:Yes, definitely. Take children's brush. RCM company's ayurvedic toothpaste and MESWAK are good for all family members whatever be the age. Let all brush teeth twice daily, -morning and before going to bed.
Reply:its not just teeth but even gums that need to be cleaned coz a 21 month old baby eats a lot more than just milk.

There are these really soft, n very tiny toothbrushes available in the market(i used johnsons for my kids). Also, colgate has a kiddy toothpaste which is not too strong.Right now u can simply brush her teeth just like that but make sure u do it very gently.
Reply:it is quite natural that children are swallowing the tooth-paste at this age.

better to go to a dentist with ur girl, to get a very good advice specific to her.

have a nice time
Reply:. Once kids have teeth they need brushed, I would brush her gums to get the gunk off.

Oral B makes a kids flouride free toothpast-its the one with Little Bear on it and its under 3.00 a tube. Also, pick up a soft bristle toddler brush. Apply a teeny pea sized amount on the bristles and brush her teeth. It is okay if she swallows it bc its flouride free. Once she is able to spit on her own, switch to kids paste w/flouride.

Make sure you get all of her teeth. If its easier let her hold the brush to get used to it and guide her hand to brush or let her chew on it a bit before you brush them. Remember to replace her brush every 3 mos. Also have her teeth checked by a dentist before she starts preschool.
Reply:You can look for kids toothpaste or check for toothpaste that has less fluoride. But I dont think theres anything in the market. You can check with medical shop.

Brushing with fingers is ok. If you can find soft bristle brush you can do it very lightly.

The moment the first teeth shows you can start brushing very gently.
