Not brushing teeth enough?

I'm very disgusted with my husbands teeth he just will not brush them!!! I mean he can go month on end w/out brushing which i find totally disgusting! i dont know how to make him do it on his own? On top of that his older tooth rotted out so they had to put a rod in his gum and then a fake tooth cap over it. well now the cap has fell off and just the black rod is exposed it's so expensive to fix! we only have medicaid any suggestions?

Not brushing teeth enough?
Your husband needs some self-discipline when it comes to brushing teeth. It only takes two times a day, preferably after breakfast and after dinner. Just tell your husband that if he doesn't brush his teeth, they will eventualy fall out (obviously), and that not brushing them will cause kidney problems and other stomach problems. Just keep encouraging him to brush them and tell him the long-term affects of not brushing them. Afterall, it should not take no more than 10 minutes out of your day (5 minutes in morning 5 at night). Well goodluck with your husband and i hope i helped.
Reply:Tell him his breath smells and you wont kiss him anymore!
Reply:same problem here, I wont kiss my husband anymore....he still doesn't get it, good luck!
Reply:I understand what you are going through my husband is the same way. I'll kiss him but no tongue anymore. just thinking about the way it felt grossed me out. I tell him if you want the tongue go brush and use Listerine. I think I saw an ad on t.v. were you can get just dental coverage for a low price that covers the whole family. But this is major so If your lucky most companies cover 50% with a referral from the dentist.
Reply:Have you talked to your husband about this? That's really disgusting. He has to take care of it! What would happen if your stopped showering and cleaning your hair? Same thing! Can you take pictures and show them to him. That might do the trick. I hope it works out for you. Good luck!!
Reply:That is sick, I didn't realize how many people don't have basic personal hygiene.
Reply:He's probably afraid to go to the dentist. If you have medicaid, check your booklet to see where they accept that or call a dentist school near you. They should accept it.Anyway,it's gotta be painful for him so just keep talking about that and how much worse it could feel. Also I found this online:Many studies showed a clear association between gum disease and heart disease;so research that and show him.For now, just call him in the bathroom while your brushing your teeth and have his brush all ready...if he doesnt want to,beg him and tell him how much you love him and miss kissing him or something....Good luck!
Reply:You can tell him .Ithink this need some kind of confidence in you. Remember tat if you continue to assume that while you are not fine with him he might think tat you actually can cope with it.Just a minute since when did he start doing it. It perfectly depends on how you value your marriage. But if you like it please you may tell him thathe could do you afavour by brushing it. Perhaps it could be that his teeth are painfull when he brushes them AND SHOULD VISIT A dENTIST AND EAT MUCH FRUITS.
Reply:I would head for divorce, there is no excuse for bad dental hygiene. How can you stand kissing him? It must be like kissing a skip.

Brushing off teeth....?

my husband and I were discussing brushing teeth the other day.We both brush twice a day but I said if you only brush your teth once a day the best time is at night before you go to bed...he says its in the morning!!!! I cant think of anything more disgusting than going to bed with dirty teeth. What do you guys think?

Brushing off teeth....?
IMO definitely night time. To brush them only in the morning means all the food that accumulates between your teeth during the rest of the day has much more time to rot and develop nasties. If there's a bet on, you win.
Reply:i like to be clean when i go to sleep too lol. i always shower etc before bed.
Reply:I dont want to walk around with morning breath! Then everyomne else has to suffer! I would totally brush in the morning just out of the kindness of my heart towards others!
Reply:I agree with husband all morning you would have that sleep taste eeeuk
Reply:i would say at night.

because you brush off all that plaque before it gets nice and comfy on you gums and teeth all night long...

and maybe rinse in the morn...
Reply:Both are important.

Brushing your teeth before you go to bed is important because it cleans out your teeth from what you ate that day.

But then again, nobody wants to wake up in the morning and not brush their teeth and have bad breath.

I think both are equally important.

:)
Reply:Depends what your bedtime activities include.
Reply:morning, smelling all day is ew =]
Reply:I brush teeth morning and night, and floss both times,I also eat sugar free gum after meals.and snacks .As.I am 57 male,.and have most of my own teeth,I must be doing something right. I also use a electric toothbrush which is better and quicker if used correctly and for two Min's twice a day.

I think, and most dentist do, that plaque sticks to teeth during the day and night between brushing, and sugar in all food acts with the plaque to cause decay.
Reply:I would have to go with "in the morning".
Reply:If i had to choose it would be on a night, i cant stand the feeling of all the sugar on my teeth from what i have eaten in the day.
Reply:Brushing at both times is important, but if you could only brush just once, then I would say night, as it would be better to get the teeth cleaned at night to get rid of the build up of the day rather than let it lie there all night to rot the teeth.
Reply:My Mum just puts them in a glass of water next to her bed and then brushes them in the morning!

Brushing teeth after wisdom tooth extraction?

It's been 6 days since I've gotten my wisdom teeth taken out. I was just brushing my teeth and I accidentally brushed the extraction site. It bled a little and one of the dissolving stitches came off. Should I be worried about this?

Brushing teeth after wisdom tooth extraction?
As long as it's not hurting, I wouldn't worry about it. It should definitely have had time to start healing. One thing you can do to help it along is to rinse with warm salty water; doesn't taste great, but it's really good for mouth injuries.
Reply:unless you're a hemophiliac I say you have nothing to worry about. I had nylon stitches and was spitting them out a few days after my surgery.
Reply:It'll probally be okay, but to be sure, call your dentist. The nurse should be able to answer those kinds of questions for you.

Bleeing while brushing teeth?

sometimes when i brush, i bleed from my gums but only in certain spots (usually the front upper two teeth)

i dont think i have gingivitis because my gums feel and look normal.

am i just brushing too hard? or can it be something serious?

Bleeing while brushing teeth?
you need to brush it gentlely... go for scaling.... at de dentis..... to much cavities stuck in your tooth.....
Reply:You are simply brushing too hard. (If you are worried about gingivitis, see your dentist regularly, that is every 6 months.)
Reply:You could be brushing too hard. You need a soft bristle tooth brush. Also, if your gums aren't used to you flossing they will bleed as well. Once you keep doing it, your gums will stop bleeding. You may want to use mouthwash like listerine just incase.
Reply:you might be brushing too hard, you should consider getting a water pik though that doesn't replace brushing. It does a good job of massaging the gums which in the long run will keep them healthy.
Reply:my gums used to do this..

make sure

1) you are brushing regularly. this is the most important. the more contact your gums have with the brush, the less sensitive they become and the less likely they are to bleed

2) buy a toothbrush with gum cleaners. they are like rubber bristles on the side that massage rather than brush your gums.

3)you floss regularly. this is just a preventative to reduce your chances of contracting gingivitis.

hope that helps :)
Reply:You may have experience bleeding gums just like when you notice that when you bite into a big, juicy apple there is some red from your gums or every time you brush your teeth, gums bleed. This symptom may be an advancing case of gingivitis. But while it is tempting to simply ignore the problem as so many are prone to do when a condition involves a visit to the dentist the fact that this kind of inflammation may continue on for years should be a wake-up call. After all, the entire body’s immune system is more or less held hostage by the continued need to tend to the oral cavity to avoid toxicity from taking on unhealthy levels and this leaves the rest of the body in a bind when it comes to fighting infections elsewhere. Do not let things progress this far if you have the opportunity to seek out dental health care. Otherwise, the odds are good that before long you will suffer from extensive tooth loss and will require bridge work and other cosmetic prostheses for not only aesthetic reasons but also to ensure that speaking and chewing will not be inhibited.

Brushing Teeth and Crest Whitestrips?

I am about to use crest whitestrips. When should I brush my teeth before putting them on?

Is brushing my teeth in the morning, then putting the whitestrips on at about 3:00, okay (eating in between)?

Or should i brush them at 3:00, then put them on at about 4:00?

thanks:)

Brushing Teeth and Crest Whitestrips?
The package says to use them before brushing.

I used them before. I found it was the easiest to use them right when I got up. It takes me about an hour to get ready so I would used 2 sets back to back (the pack says you can do that). I would use them and then when I was done, I would just brush my teeth and leave the house.

They really work! I used them about 3 years ago and the results are AMAZING and they last!!! I am still getting compliments on my smile!

Good luck!
Reply:the package recommends using them before brushing.
Reply:Well I would recommend that you brush your teeth and apply the stir before going to ed, so that your teeth will b rested and the strip will start to whiten them over time.
Reply:white strips are a rip-off

Brushing teeth accident?

So I was brushing my teeth I week ago, and I think I did it too fast and I slipped with the brush and scraped some skin from the internal lower labial skin, near the gums but on the lip side. Now I have like a 3mm radius "crater" that hurts like hell, it won't heal and it's been over a week now. What can I do to heal it? It doesn't let me eat, brush my teeth, drink certain beverages. I need help.

Brushing teeth accident?
You can rinse out your mouth with a warm salt water mix. (I always wondered why you were supposed to gargle salt water for a cold. Turns out it's an amazingly good germ killer.) The salt will kill the germs and the warm water will soothe the cut. (just don't make it TOO strong a mix, or it will sting sting sting.)
Reply:I had the same problem...I just applied a oral medicine called orajel directly to the wound 2-3 times a day and it cleared up in a week. Other oral medicines work well too.
Reply:add a teaspoon of salt to some warm water and swish it around in ur mouth
Reply:I would put ora-jel and drink some vodka :)
Reply:It will heal itself after a while. Forget about it and avoid eating with that part of your mouth.
Reply:Brushing your teeth is pretty high up there on the danger scale. Up with handling raw plutonium and skydiving without a parachute. You should be more careful, maybe you should stick to mouthwash.
Reply:OK the WORST THING you can do is "add a teaspoon of salt to some warm water and swish it around in ur mouth" - Moron who said that.

You gotta put jel on it.

Brushing teeth?

I have a 11 month old baby with 5 teeth, how soon should you start brushing them, I know it%26#039;s going to be a chore.

Brushing teeth?
I started from a few weeks old with a washcloth over my finger just so she would get used to the feeling. Start now. Make it fun for the baby. Orajel makes a toddler/baby toothpaste that is safe if they swallow a little bit. Visit the dentist at about 1 1/2 years old though, just to make sure teeth are coming in right.
Reply:You can star brushing them now they have special toothpaste and tooth brushes for babies. My daughters first was Gerber grins and giggles.
Reply:As soon as they get teeth, they have special toothbrushes and toothpaste for babies.
Reply:with a soft toothbrush
Reply:i say, let them rott, just kidding, mayb once u should wait till he/she grows more teeth
Reply:I agree with now, but you wouldn%26#039;t even need toothpaste. Just a small toothbrush and water would work until he knows what you%26#039;re doing and how to do it.
Reply:my baby having teeth at his 3,5 month. I start brushing his teeth soon after I see it come out
Reply:Yes! You need to start as soon as they get them. You can buy baby tooth brushes anywhere. Also they should see a pediatric dentist 6 months after the FIRST tooth comes in.
Reply:it%26#039;s not as hard as you think. my son had 6 teeth by 8mo and i let him play with the toothbrush ( it actually helped w/the whole teething process). now every morning, he is now 14.5 mo, when i am brushing mine he HAS to have his toothbrush and he just goes to town. he watches me intensely and mimics my brushing. so just get your baby accustomed to the brush and it won%26#039;t be a problem at all!!
Reply:you should start brushing their teeth right after the first tooth pops out. so since you havent you should start right away. and yes, it is definately a chore with little ones, i have a 14 month old and my hubby and i have to brush her teeth as a team, one to hold her down, and the other to brush the teeth, it is really hard sometimes. the easiest one to use is the one that goes over your finger. good luck.
