Pregnant and brushing teeth?

I"m 3 months pregnant and everytime i go to brush my teeth i start gagging, even before i actually start to brush. Does this happen to anyone else, if so what do you do to stop it?

Pregnant and brushing teeth?
That's happened to me for my first pregnancy. Try eating an unsalted cracker before start brushing. That's help to me.
Reply:you might still be in the morning sickness stage. Try sucking on a very sour hard candy before you brush your teeth
Reply:I did. I didn't know how to get over it but I just hurried up and did it instead of doing my usual 3-5 minutes.
Reply:This happens to me every morning. It should go away in the 2nd trimester. There really is nothing I've found to do, except to just let it go away naturally. I did cut down on the number of times I brush my teeth a day, though, I went from 2 to one. Good Luck!!
Reply:That is happening to me to.I just don´t think it will stop.Everyday it gets a little better.
Reply:Man, I had that problem during my second pregnancy. The gagging was kind of a problem all the way through, but the nausea that went along with it eventually subsided when I was 6 months, maybe? I found that mint toothpaste was the worst, so I tried some of those new Crest flavors. I didn't like the orange stuff, but it cleaned my teeth and didn't make me gag as much as mint, so that's what I went with. (I would have used straight baking soda, but my OB/GYN said I couldn't while I was pregnant.) I also found that a Sonicare toothbrush got my teeth clean while making me gag less than a regular toothbrush, but the 2-minute cycle was too long. I had to stop and start and stop and start. And flossing was problematic, too. Trying to reach my back teeth would set the gagging off. I got a flosser, also from Crest, and that helped a bit.

Hope some of those things help you a bit.

Like I say, nothing got the gagging to STOP, but I found ways to make it bearable...
Reply:When you're pregnant, your gag reflexes become stronger. there is no real way to stop this because it's a muscle reflex. Just take a deep breath and relax as you get ready to brush.
Reply:It happened to me too on both pregnancies. The worst part is that I would keep brushing, but after I was done, I would throw up.. Yack! Brush the teeth again. I did not find any solution to help me against this.
Reply:Been there, done that. Try panting thru your mouth, sounds ridiculous but it worked for me. My dentist suggested that because I have a really bad gag reflex and it only got worse when I'm preg.
