Teeth brushing!?

ok, this could sound like a really daft question, but i figured if i dont ask i wont know! so...

i just got my 4 months old's bounty pack and inside was a baby tooth brush. on the packaging it says from 4 - 24 months, but NOWHERE does it say if i need to start now or when teeth start cutting from her gums?!?!?!

sorry if i sound a bit daft, but i figured i'd ask before just ploughing straight in and brushing her gums. i do have those gum massargers, if i dont start with the brush now should i stick with that? she loves chomping away on it!

Teeth brushing!?
The earlier the better! Th ADA has recently found that healthy gums before teeth have begun to bud promotes lifelong dental health. Also, getting her into a dental hygiene routine now will save you a ton of trouble once she becomes more independent and decides that she would rather not let you brush her teeth...that's a whole other challenge in itself. I wish you luck!
Reply:start now even with no teeth so your little one gets used to it

my son is nearly 7 and i've always done it and he does it too but sometimes its a battle

good luck
Reply:I've read that it's not a bad idea to start doing that while they are young. But, why not try a wash cloth that is wet, and just wipe down the gums...

I wouldn't use the tooth brush till there are teeth.. because it could irritate the gums a bit.
Reply:I don't think you 'have' to just yet. But it would get her used to it for later on.
Reply:You can brush the gums or use the massager, it doesn't really matter. Whatever she/you prefer.

The main point is to get them used to having their teeth brushed. Didn't umm work for us but you have fun with that.

BTW if you use toothpaste consider what is in it, many infant toothpastes contain ingredients you probably would never feed a child. Certainly they contain things that I wouldn't.
Reply:hiya ...

okay this is what I did %26amp; do...

I also saw the toothpaste, etc.. and didn't have a clue! I waited 'til my daughter cut her teeth then I tried to brush them - WELL, it doesn't go too bad the first few times! But after a while she didn't want me to put the brush in her mouth. I thought of a way round it - I gave her the toothbrush to play with! She loves it .. plays with it in her mouth for ages! So, I figure that it's doing some good. She's 15 months now and she still won't let me do it ... I have tried but it's no good! I show her me doing it .. and her big brother. Maybe you'll have more luck.

As long as you have some sort of routine with the toothbrush .. it'll come eventually.

Good luck,

Bev
Reply:Ok I cleaned my child's gums with a gum cleaner. As soon as I saw a tooth I started brushing very gently.
Reply:I would hold off until she's cut her first teeth, they probably put from 4 months incase your baby has teeth that early. You can get a gum massager which is like a toothbrush until then.

I started doing my baby girls at about 8 months when her first teeth had come up a bit through the gum, i do a quick brush before she grabs it off me and chews it.I do it once at night and i think its a good thing to start early as my nephew ( 3 yrs old) didnt have his brushed and now has rotten brown teeth.
Reply:please wait till baby has cut the first tooth

brushing the gums is a very silly thing to do

you can cause the gums to bleed

babies can start to cut their first tooth from 4 months old

my first baby was 7 months before she cut her first tooth

so you can imgaine the shock i had when my second decided to cut her tooth at 4 months

oh and some babies are born with the first tooth cut

but at the end of the day wait until baby has his first tooth cut
Reply:The earlier the better. If your child does not have any teeth dont worry about it just allow your child to play with it in her mouth (supervised) This will then prepare her for when she uses it to brush her teeth.
