It really hurts brushing my teeth and my gums bleed the color of strawberries. Could someone help?

I use to put off brushing my teeth everynight. Now I'm trying to get back into the routine of brushing them every night. But it hurts brushing near the gums and they bleed the color of red strawberries. I'm trying to put up with it and hope for a good result. I can't afford dental.

It really hurts brushing my teeth and my gums bleed the color of strawberries. Could someone help?
most probably your problem is called gingivitis bleeding is one parameter of gum deaseas and also color of your gum ...

you had better visit your dentist for professional cleaning which is usually solved gingivitis problem in that visit after cleaning your gum can be healthy by itself

but if you are late to visit your dentist you may lost your teeth because of gum deaseas
Reply:Yes! Your dentist!
Reply:Use a softer toothbrush. (rinse you mouth with salted water to help heal your sore gums)
Reply:Buy a softer bristled toothbrush :D and maybe some antiseptic mouthwash, just incase bacteria is causing your unusual bleeding.

Erm, please check with your doctor, since i had a friend who was confused as to why her gums bleed when she brushed it with her usual toothbrush(that she's been using for years) It turns out she was on her way to leukemia, caused due to lack of sleep from studying. Good thing she got treated early or else....
Reply:it is common to see blood in your mouth if: not enough fluid in your body in summer time, drink more water,

start rinse your mouth, if you can with mouth wash against gingivitis, cheaper version, you can use salt water or spirit, do not hesitate, take care.
Reply:use soft tooth brush and sensodine toothpaste
Reply:Try flossing along with brushing and mouthwash.
Reply:Start using sensodyne, and brush lightly 3 or 4 times a day with it until the bleeding stops.

In the mean time try to get in to see your dentist because it sounds like gingivitis. If this is not taken care of you will be gumming mashed potatos...

Keep smiling !!!
Reply:I use to have the problem then i was recommended a water pick used that for a week and now my gums do not bleed when i brush
Reply:my son had same problem, went to dentist and a good thing,it is called gingivitis,a bacteria that grows under the gum and could next turn into periodonal desease, which if not treated can cause bone lose therefore tooth loss.please see dentist pronto, unless you love jello.good luck,in mean time sensodine toothpaste is good and soft brush.
Reply:continue what you are doing as far as brushing but take it another step furthur. i would suggest brushing twice a day for no less than 2 minutes each time. make sure you put the bristles at the gumline- the bleeding is telling you that bacteria is attacking the gums and the gums want you to get them clean as can be.rinse with salt water too to help. in about 2 weeks- it should be ever so much better- then add in flossing once a day. at first just floss the areas you can reach easily and after a few days add in the other teeth.

as soon as you can afford to- go see the hygienist and let her professionally clean your teeeth. your gums will be so much happier for it.
Reply:softer tooth brush and rinse with warm salt water
Reply:If you haven't brushed regularly in a while, there is undoubtedly build up of tartar around your gumline, this is why you are seeing bleeding and tenderness. You do need to see a dentist to have a cleaning to remove the tartar (this will never happen with a tooth brush alone) once the cleaning is done then you need to maintain your teeth by brushing and flossing every day twice a day!!! no exceptions! I know dental care is expensive but you can check in your area for a dental school or hygiene school in your, they charge lesser rates than a dentist and they are monitored closely by their instructors.

Should I drink coffee before or after brushing my teeth?

I recently saw a commercial saying that if you brush your teeth after drinking coffee, you may be brushing away your enamel because of the slightly acidic nature of coffee. Yet, brushing before drinking coffee seems like I'm cleaning my teeth only to give the coffee a better chance of staining? What's best overall for teeth health, brushing before or after drinking coffee/acidic beverage?

Should I drink coffee before or after brushing my teeth?
If you are worried about the acids, you can always rinse with baking soda, which will neutralize ANY kind of acid in your mouth. I'm serious.... I was sick for a long time and a doctor told me that when I threw up, instead of brushing my teeth right away, I should mix water and baking soda and rinse with that. To neutralize the acids.....

Coffee, however is not very acidic. And what are commercials made to do?? Entice or even intimidate people into buying a product.

But if you're still worried about it, rinse with baking soda to neutralize or maybe buy a paste with baking soda in it?

:)
Reply:i do not know but i notice after people drink it their teeth are gross!!

I was brushing my teeth and my gums started bleeding...any ideas?

I'm not brushing too hard, I know that, but normally I bleed just a little each morning and night but this morning when I would spit into the sink, it was pink, even bright red at some spots. Once I washed my mouth out I couldn't taste anymore blood or see any more, but I have no idea what could have caused so much bleeding. I'm not brushing too hard, there's no sores, and there aren't any cuts, this blood is coming from the bottom edge of my teeth and between them.

I was brushing my teeth and my gums started bleeding...any ideas?
What you don't say could be the most important fact. Do you go to see your dentist on a regular basis? You should be seen, at the very least, twice a year for an oral health exam and tooth cleaning.

Bleeding gums usually mean that you have a condition called gingivitis, inf lammed gum tissue. To clear this up a thorough cleaning by your dentist or hygienist is needed. Then an intensive home care regimen is needed. Brushing twice a day at the very least and flossing twice a day. If an area bleeds that means it needs more attention. Brush longer in those areas that bleed. Not harder but keep the brush on those spots longer. Gums are like muscles. They need exercise. Bleeding is a sign that they are not getting their needed care and exercise.

So, see your dentist and follow his/her instructions for home care.
Reply:i have been told bleeding is a sign of gingavitas (sp) but then again im no dentist. you should prolly see one
Reply:Get a softer brush and talk to your dentist.
Reply:Make sure you start flossing!! The bleeding should stop after getting into this routine.
Reply:could be a pre-cursor to gum disease. But you should really talk to your dentist during your next visit.
Reply:It's called "gingivitis" - inflammation of the gums. Not a death sentence, but try making dental floss your friend :-)
Reply:i used to suffer with bleeding gums to luv, its nothing to be majorly concerned about but i suggest you start taking a multivitamin, thats what i started taking and my gums stopped bleeding instantly:) hope that helps:)
Reply:maybe your gums are sensitive
Reply:You probably have gingivitis.Go to your dentist. He'll know more about that.
Reply:try bushing more on the teeth not the gums and change bristle type try softer
Reply:To solve this you need to floss on a daily basis.

Expect bleeding after flossing for about two weeks, but it should diminish as the gums get healthier. Get a thin floss.

The most important time to brush and floss is just before going to sleep as that when less saliva is available to rinse the teeth.

The saliva can actually remineralize the teeth, so getting rid of food/bacteria between the teeth allows more tooth surface to be repaired, otherwise the bacteria use the food to make acids that eat away at the tooth.
Reply:Most common causes are : (1)"Gingivitis", i.e. gum infection, and it needs dentist treatment specially if it is for long time, sometimes they cut edges and prescribe drugs....etc, if not for long and mild you can try local(mouth) gargles on your own, and see how things go. (2) Bad tooth brush.

Blood diseases may show itself like this, BUT ALSO BLEEDING FROM OTHER PLACES AND REASONS. So, it does not fit your history, do not worry. And at the same time do something about, it may wreck your teeth.
Reply:you may have gingivitis an inflammation of periodontal tissue around teeth .Do not be afraid to brush hardly and vertically ,from the bottom to the edge of teeth and floss your teeth with dental floss Oral-B you get it from the supermarket or pharmacy. Also rinse your mouth with mouth-water.
Reply:You have gingivitis. You should brush your teeth twice a day and flossing daily.

If you have really good oral hygiene and are not brushing too hard, gingivitis can be caused from different things. One is hormone influenced, which includes: puberty, prior to your menstral cycle (usually the week before), pregnancy and birth control.

Just brush and floss daily and in a couple days it should clear up, if not then you should see your dentist to rule out other possible factors.

Can not brushing your teeth give you a headache?

Yesterday I got home really late so I just jumped into bed without brushing my teeth. This isn't normal behavior for me but when I woke up this morning I had a sore throat, a headache, and felt sort of feverish. Could this be due to the not brushing? What can I do to alleviate the symptoms?

Can not brushing your teeth give you a headache?
Maybe you just have a cold because you were out late? Not brushing won't give you a cold - it'll just rot your teeth. Take some cold medicine and rest and have plenty of fluids.
Reply:A 24 hour flu then perhaps? Report It

Reply:no, i havent brushed my teeth for 7 months
Reply:Not related to not brushing. Sounds like you're maybe coming down with something. Take a OTC med for the pain, see how it goes. If your sore throat gets worse or fever gets higher, see a doctor.

Is it safe/effective to brush your teeth with peroxide to whiten them (in addition to daily brushing) ?

I have used crest whitestrips in the past to whiten my teeth and they have worked well. The active ingredient in most if not all teeth bleaching kits is a type of peroxide. So I was wondering if after brushing with toothpaste would it be safe and effective to dip the brush in hydrogen peroxide and brush? If so, what concentration of peroxide would be safe enough to use but most effective? Any tips would be appreciated! :)

Is it safe/effective to brush your teeth with peroxide to whiten them (in addition to daily brushing) ?
i guess so as long as it's not pure peroxide you are using, as peroxide can be a bit destructive to delicate tissue.
Reply:Yes it is the same thing only cheaper...my grandma always did this her teeth were always white and healthy. You can get the stronger peroxide I believe it is 10%? and it comes in a smaller bottle...look at the drug store it is usually nearby the hair dying area.
Reply:Colgate makes a product called Peroxyl, which is appropriately diluted mint-flavored peroxide. You can find it by the mouthwash in basically any pharmacy/mass retailer. I've used it quite often to cleanse irritations in my mouth (wisdom teeth) with no problem, though I do rinse after using just in case it might harm the enamel.

To be safe, you really should ask your dentist before using peroxide in your mouth daily.

Diseases caused by not brushing your teeth?

MY step-dad is 46 years old and hasn't brushed his teeth in 35 years, out of pure laziness and it's disgusting. His teeth are pretty much rotted out of his mouth, I have a newborn, and I was wondering what if any, diseases are caused by not brushing your teeth? I know heart disease, but I don't really like him being around my son because of how dirty is mouth must be from this. Anyone know any good "tips"/advice about whats lurking around in his mouth that all of my family should watch out for? Thanks

Diseases caused by not brushing your teeth?
Actually Lippylou IS correct. Bacteria can be transferred from person to person (including from you to the baby), so I would advise that you don't let Dad kiss the baby on the mouth. Otherwise the effects of poor oral health will only effect him, such as gingivitis, periodontal disease, and other diseases that are commonly seen in association like diabetes and heart disease.

JAMRDH - a dental hygienist
Reply:Biggest concern should be periodontal disease, this is an infection under the gum line and can be transfered to others when sharing cups, straws, kissing, etc. but as long as dad does not kiss baby on the lips baby will be fine. This disease causes bone loss as well and the end result if he doesn't do anything about it will be loss of his teeth. and your right this infection is lurking in his blood stream and can cause problems like diabetes heart disease stroke heartatche etc.
Reply:Can i just say ignore what lippylou1994 just said!!!!!!

Your step dad will have periodontal disease/gum disease but you CANNOT CATCH this from other people. His mouth will be really dirty and it will affect his health but no one elses. If you dont like him being around your newborn, tell him until he gets his teeth fixed to stay away with his mouth and maybe this will help him too. :)

What's the proper steps in brushing your teeth?

Ok,so, me and my husband disagree on the order/steps to brushing our teeth. So, I thought I'd ask my "Answers" friends out there. So, here goes....

When brushing your teeth, do you......

(1) Brush, Floss, then Rinse???

OR

(2) Floss, Brush, then Rinse???

Tell me the order in which your brush your "snags"!!

What's the proper steps in brushing your teeth?
well I'm strange I floss brush floss and then use peroxide as mouth wash then rinse with water hope this helps I also poor peroxide on my tooth brush before useing it then rinse it real fast with water. that is what a dentest told me about six months ago.
Reply:doesnt matter as long as you do them in any order
Reply:well... i floss, brush, then rinse. i also use mouth wash... unless you meant rinse as in rinse with mouth wash. haha. :)
Reply:snowflake,i always go for number 2 and then mouthwash if i have had something like salsa and chips, and have worked all day.

Brushing My Teeth.. along with bleeding =(?

ok, so im not 100% kept up on brushing my teeth and everytime i do, my gums bleed and they wont stop... is there anything i can do to help them not bleed so much ..... it really sucks

Brushing My Teeth.. along with bleeding =(?
Healthy gums do not bleed. When was the last time you had your teeth professionally cleaned? Healthy teeth need it every 6 months. Sounds like you have a good case of gingivitis (gum infection). To avoid this, brush twice daily for at least two minutes, floss daily, and see your dentist or hygienist every 6 months.
Reply:You should go to your dentist really soon, this bleeding is a possible sign of gingivitis, this could lead to a more serious dental disease that if unattended will lead you to lose your precious teeth. Please see your professional soon!
Reply:U should start flossing ur teeth and also go to the dentist and get a deep cleaning cuz im sure u have gunt underneath ur gums. If u dont have a dentist then start using listerine 2 times a day after brushing brush ur teeth for 2 mins 30mins each side or ur mouth. This will help stop the bleeding dramatically.
Reply:Go to the dentist and get a good cleaning. START FLOSSING! I seriously know this stuff now. I was terrified of the dentist and didn't go for about 8 years. Last March I finally told myself to stop being a baby and I went. I ended up having to get a root canal, 7 cavities filled and a deep cleaning for gingivitis. (Most of the population has it and they don't even know it.) I now care for my teeth; brushing, flossing and using a good mouthwash and my mouth is healthy, clean and I plan on keeping it that way! You should do the same. Once you start caring for your mouth it will feel better, look better and the bleeding will stop. Also, brush your tongue too, many people don't, that alone can get rids of bad breath! Good luck!
Reply:Floss every single day for the rest of your life, you can also buy a waterpik and put some mouth rinse in it to help your gums, along with the flossing the mouth rinse and regular tooth brushing you should have your teeth clean by a professional every six months, to remove tatar and help prevent bigger problems.

Brushing ur teeth!!!!!!!?

does brushing ur teeth with baking soda make it whiter??

does it hurt?

Brushing ur teeth!!!!!!!?
yes, brushing your teeth w/ baking soda helps whiten, however, it does it so gradual that you wont see a difference right away. it does hurt your gums if you are rough, so brush your teeth only, not up to the gums. specially if you have bad gums be gentle on them
Reply:yes and no
Reply:It help on whitening....but taste bad and does nothing for plaque
Reply:sorry. never tried it
Reply:yES, AND NO.
Reply:some toothpaste has baking soda in them if u wanna make em whiter theres a thing u put on ur teeth in the morning im not sure what its called
Reply:It makes mine whiter. I once heard Oprah say she's never used anything on her teeth but baking soda.
Reply:interesting...
Reply:My mother use to say to do that but I never got past putting Baking Soda in my mouth.
Reply:Sorry to say but no it does not
Reply:I think baking soda is already in toothpaste, so I don't know
Reply:idk
Reply:i barely brush my teeth so how would i know
Reply:Yes it does and no it doesn't hurt.
Reply:dono know what i know is that it tastes bad
Reply:I think it's an old wives' tale. The soda is abrasive so after you do it a few times your gums feel irritated and sore. I never noticed it making my teeth whiter.
Reply:It's supposed to help whiten but I think toothpaste today does a better job than baking soda. No brushing with baking soda doesn't hurt.
Reply:I does help with the whitening. I does hurt but it does taste bad.
Reply:armor hamor toothpaste works good. it has baking soda and peroxide in it. makes them nice and white.
Reply:Yes, it makes your teeth whiter, but for me, I hardly see any difference. It doesn't hurt.
Reply:Yes it does.

Some toohpaste has baking soda already in there.
Reply:whiter..... but shouldn't make them hurt.Does make a sizzling sound...
Reply:Baking soda is too abrasive %26amp; will eventually wear the enamel down. Plus it tastes nasty!
Reply:It helps keep them white, and as long as your teeth and gums are healthy it will not hurt
Reply:my teeth are white as snow i use baking soda and crest plus peroxide, but if your not able to keep from swallowing you shouldnt use peroxide it can cause digestive disturbances. and yes soda can make your gums a bit sore and tender but.
Reply:yes it does but if you dont like the taste.put some baking soda in your palm, and dip your toothbrush with toothpaste on it already into it and its not so salty tasting
Reply:no ,,I love my baking soda toothpaste, and it does whiten my teeth
Reply:Get the tooth paste with the baking soda in it, and no, it doesn't hurt. If it does then you have Gingivitis.

After brushing my teeth are white...then they turn yellow..WHY?

My granddaughters teeth are yellow at times. After brushing they are white but turn yellow again. It doesn't matter what she eats or drinks this just keeps happening. Is there an underlying medical condition that could be causing this? She is 13. She brushes after meals and sees her dentist regularly. She has even tried baking soda. Please give us some concrete answers. Thank you!

After brushing my teeth are white...then they turn yellow..WHY?
may be it's the color of her teeth or may be her teeth lack something...

u should see a dentist for that... but make sure her teeth do not rot... and make sure she does not brush it too much also...

some people brush their teeth excessively and that damages the upper layer on the teeth...

gd luck
Reply:she may need a cleaning done due to plaque coated her teeth...is she brushing for the recommended two minutes, twice a day?or she might be brushing too hard and taking off enamel(glossy protective 1st layer of tooth) does she have sensitivity with hot or mostly cold water?could be a sign that shes brushing to hard and taking enamel off...make sure she has a soft tooth brush..that might help as well..if the problem persists i would recommend seeing her dentist and asking him about more options..

I hate brushing my teeth, should I have them all pulled?

I dread getting up in the morning and brushing my teeth. I wish they would just fall out. I like to brush my hair though, so it's not that I hate the brushing motion. I think life would be a little easier.

I hate brushing my teeth, should I have them all pulled?
yes, I believe all girls should have no teeth, its better when they perform oral sex on men. duh
Reply:OMG! You'd still need to brush to keep from having stanky (yes- stanky) breath. Report It

Reply:i have gotten 4 teeth pulled and it really hurts! so you might not want to get 32 teeth pulled!
Reply:It would probably hurt and be expensive. You should just save the money and let them rot out. It won't take much time if you aren't brushing at all.
Reply:nah. just stop brushing them, they will get brown and crusty and fall out on there own.
Reply:Yuck! Have you ever had a root canal? These days dentist don't want to just pull teeth, and you would lose alot of bone structure in your jaw if you had them pulled out. i say grin and bear it.
Reply:I know its such a struggle to pick up a ounce toothbrush what a hard job it is.You suffer so much. I wish i had your problems dear.......
Reply:Brushing takes a whole 2 minutes of your life a day. What could you possibly hate about brushing your teeth? I can't stand the feeling in the morning when my teeth are all nasty. Why would you want your breath to smell bad and your teeth to be caked in food particles?

If nothing else, use mouth wash.
Reply:You've got an option--brush em now, or let em fall out later!!! LOL Yuck breath!!! Smell ya later!!!
Reply:Yes, get them all pulled.

Not only will you save time in the morning and at night, but you won't have that nasty morning breath either because I think that is caused by teeth. Another good thing about it is that you will look so much prettier. People who have no teeth and don't wear false ones are real lookers. And you will save money on food too. You can't eat so many things with no teeth.

I say go for it. lol
Reply:you just have to accept it, its part of our life....or you might regret it...

you just have to enjoy it.... and you'll be doing it daily without noticing it.... its all in the mind....
Reply:hunny i see that you have major issues in your life. Stop being so damn lazy and brush your teeth. Well its up to you. just let them rot and they will fall. and of course you will save $$ from not buying food, toothpaste or brush. Now if you get tired from combing your hair, might as well shave it all off. Its easy as 1,2,3...
Reply:Maybe you could just have your back teeth pulled and keep your front teeth for show. Plus it wouldn't take that long to brush 14 teeth.
Reply:Just get some hair on your teeth...... then you could brush your hair and teeth at the same time..and perhaps shampoo instead of toothpaste..
Reply:Brush your teeth. I don't have all of mine and it is not fun. Sure my b/f loves it, but that is him. Keep in mind, you won't be able to eat certain food like apples without cutting them up. It is a pain not to have all your teeth, and removing them is very, very painful and expensive as well. Please, think twice!
Reply:Why would you not want to have your own teeth???? dentures are not the answer you still have to clean them so you might as well clean the ones God gave you...dentures do not have roots think about it....it is like saying I don't like washing my hands please cut them off.
Reply:NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:Are you for real?

ARE YOU LAZY, INSANE OR JUST STUPID?

You have teeth for a reason. Tell me you brush your hair, but do you wash it and what is the rest of your hygiene like??

Is brushing your teeth with soap safe?

I have heard that brushing youre teeth with soap is good for teeth. Is that true? If it is, should I use liquid soap or bar soap?

Is brushing your teeth with soap safe?
Yes, it's perfectly safe. Use bar soap. I use safeguard. I've been brushng with it for about 9 months now. The last time I went to the dentist my gums were the best they have ever been. Just make sure to rinse well.

Using soap is a good way of avoiding fluoride. Fluoride has been linked to thyroid problems, among other things. If I don't use soap, I use Toms of Maine toothpaste without fluoride.
Reply:no. Soap can irritate the mouth and tongue, and then lead to infections in the mouth.
Reply:You're a true masochist if you brush your teeth with soap. It tastes horrible! Also, I don't see how it could be good for your teeth.

This is good though:

baking soda and peroxide. Dab your toothbrush in peroxide and then in baking soda, then brush.

This doesn't taste much better than soap but it IS good for your teeth and gums.
Reply:However told you that must be laughing their butt off about now.
Reply:I don't think it would taste good, but go with whatever works with you.
Reply:What makes Toothpaste so good for your teeth is the fluoride it contains. Soap is useless as it contains no fluoride and is likely to irritate your mouth, with no benefits.
Reply:Why would you use soap? Are you craving it, because if you are you may have a mineral deficiency. The disorder is called pica. Go see a doc and he/she can do some blood work and see what's going on. If you just want to use soap, I would suggest you don't do it babe, just use some crest.
Reply:Soap will not affect your mouth, but it will give you diarrhea if ingested
Reply:who told u that?? ...did u ever taste a soap??((it's bitter))...use the toothpaste and save ur mouth taste.

I hate brushing my teeth. Help!!???

I hate brushing my teeth. I gag and hate the taste of all toothpaste even the fruity ones that are supposed to taste good. I dont like mint, spearmint, cinnamon, citrus, anything. It's all discusting and I'd rather throw up than brush my teeth. Obviously I need to keep them clean. What can I do????

I hate brushing my teeth. Help!!???
It's ok to brush without toothpaste, since the actual brushing is what is most important.
Reply:Try making your own toothpaste.

if ure too fussy .. well i dont mean to loud or something ...

but i can say that once u go to a dentist for a root canal without anastesia ... u'll never forget to brush again .. ever ...
Reply:oh,that's incredibly weird. perhaps you must go to the dentist and ask her what can he/she do for you. if not, better go to a phsycology. i advise you must brush your teeth without toothpaste. or you may brush your teeth with toothpaste and sacrifice.no one can help yourself but you.
Reply:If it's just the toothpaste you hate, then don't use any when you brush. If it's the actual brushing that you hate, then you need to realize even if you loose all of your teeth to decay, abscesses and disease from not brushing, you will still have to brush dentures. It's easier to just take care of the teeth you have, one day you will be glad you did.

Looks like you don't really want any advice on this topic with all of the thumbs down. Maybe Triple T's advice will make you think a little harder about not brushing your teeth even if you do hate the task and the tooth paste.

Additional information: My response to your question was not intended to evoke such a negative response from you, but obviously I have struck a nerve with my answer. I certainly didn't mean to hurt your feelings, my concern and the initial reason I responded to your question was in an attempt to make you realize the importance of brushing your teeth and the consequences involved by not doing so, no matter how much you dislike the task or the taste, it is of the greatest importance for your over all dental and physical health which can be greatly compromised by not brushing your teeth. I do apologize if I've offended you in any way but do hope that you will listen to the advice given to you from myself, and all of the others in regard to this question. Good luck!

As for the thumbs down response to "everyone" it would appear odd that someone would read this question and give "all" of the responders the thumbs down, which would be a wrong response to all the answers given. Usually it's the person who asks the question, that didn't care for the answers given, who gives the thumbs down. It really doesn't matter if you did or didn't, as long as you realize the advice given by all is accurate and hopefully you will heed the advice given.
Reply:how about brushing with rock salt? It taste salty but it will clean your teeth and got no taste of those you mentioned.
Reply:i bet there is something you can use and not hate, ask the dentist about it, im sure u'll find a way. if not try to floss or use mouthwash everyday

Reply:First, use just a drop of toothepaste at a time. Hold your head forward over the sink when you brush. This will keep toothpaste off of the tastebuds and out of your throat. Breath through your nose. It should only take about 2 minutes to brush. These tips may help.
Reply:Just do what I do, take them out to brush them, then put them to soak overnight with a denture tablet in the water. It's been working great for me since I was 14. Give them a rinse in the morning and you're ready to go.

Can not brushing your teeth lead to stomach problems?

My friend hardly ever brushes her teeth. It's gross! She complains of stomach problems and constantly feels like she's about to throw up, and feels this in her throat, too. could this be because of not brushing her teeth? the doctors can't find anything wrong with her. what's up?

Can not brushing your teeth lead to stomach problems?
yeah thats nasty . her teeth migh fall out
Reply:Tell your friend that by not brushing her teeth it can lead to serious problems: Decay, infection, intense pain.

By not brushing her teeth, her teeth will accumulate plague and bacteria will attack her teeth. She will get cavities, and if they aren't filled, the holes will become bigger. Her teeth will even crack easily because they are weakened. There is no cure for cavities or for cracks. Infection of the teeth is terrible and extremely painful. It can even lead to serious illness and death if left untreated.

The cause of her stomach ache is probably from the high level of bacteria in her mouth, though I can't be sure. She needs to stop being lazy and start brushing her teeth. Even once a day is a start. She should also visit a dentist as soon as possible. She could have cavities that she's unaware of.

If she doesn't, she will risk herself greatly. Abscess teeth are not fun. They are extremely painful.

I have a nearly 5 month old kitten. I've had him since he was two months old. Should I be brushing his teeth already? I asked my vet's assistant and she said something like he doesn't have his adult teeth yet, but that I can try to get him used to the idea by introducing the toothbrush and toothpaste.

So, will my kitten's teeth fall out soon and be replaced with new ones? What is the timeline for a cat's tooth development? When should I start brushing his teeth on a regular basis?

Thanks! I want my kitten to be healthy so I want to know when I should start brushing his teeth... and also how often? I've heard once a week.

At what age should I start brushing my kitten's teeth?
start brushing them as soon as you can to get him use to it. here is a video:

Reply:Yeah he will lose his sharp little kitten teeth and get new adult ones. Its lovely you want your cat to have clean teeth but I would not brush them just get him some hard dry cat food or cat treats and that will keep his teeth tartar free and you wont have to annoy him by sticking a toothbrush in his mouth. Maybe thats ok for dogs but totally unnecessary for cats IMHO
Reply:You can start brushing their teeth once they have been weaned. I'm not sure about when their adult teeth come in, but regardless if he does or doesn't have them- brushing them now will get him used to the idea. Just make sure you are using a toothpaste formulated for kitties, I'm sure you know this however.

I brush my 2 kitties teeth twice a week. I used to do it more often, but with a 3 year old son %26amp; a new puppy I don't get to do it as often!

Good luck and thanks for caring enough about your little kitty. :)
Reply:it dosen't matter how old brush it every day the effects are in http://www.vetbase.co.uk/information/tee...
Reply:Wow, your gonna brush your cat's teeth? I want to see that posted on youtube. Please send me the link when you do.
Reply:with anything you want to be doing with your kitten best to start early

you can get toothpaste from the vets, it taste good to them so maybe start by putting some on your finger and letting it lick it off

then try rubbing it in with your fingers

then when its happy with that go to the brush, you can get cat brushes but small dog teethbrushes work fine too

i have cats that like it and some that dont

but best to try as old age dentail problems in cats are a nightmare!

good look

Reply:I do not know what vet you asked, but toothpaste is not for animals. Toothpaste is very dangerous even for children. Read the label; IT SAYS DO NOT SWALLOW!

A vet will show you how to effectively clean a cat's or dog's teeth. Remember, this is not a human; it is an animal. It's immune system is not as strong as humans'. I am sure when your cat is older, you can buy a paste EXCLUSIVELY for animals.
Reply:The earlier you get it used to the brush the better.

Daily brushing is best but if you can manage even weekly brushing that's better than nothing.

You don't use human toothpaste. You CAN use pet toothpaste if you wish. However, just know that it's purpose is only to make the brushing palatable for the cat - it's not like human toothpaste (necessarily) that provides benefits for the teeth). I may be wrong about that, but you could just as well brush WITHOUT any toothpaste.

And once again - dry food doesn't clean the teeth. If it did, we'd all be eating cookies.

Dream about brushing my teeth with a friend's toothbrush?

In this dream I wanted to brush my teeth but the only toothbrush available was my friend's. I ended up brushing my teeth with it and feeling paranoid that they'll come in and see me use their toothbrush or later somehow find out I used it. What could this dream mean?

Dream about brushing my teeth with a friend's toothbrush?
The dream seems to indicate that you sometimes don't have what you need, and use what your friend has. You may feel like you utilize your friends too much for stuff you need and feel a little guilty. You may be doing some of this without their knowledge. A tooth brush is personal, so you may be taking advantage of them personally in some way. Meditation/prayer, exercise, and a good diet, should make you stronger spiritually, so you can figure out how to utilize your friends less and not do things that you feel you have to keep secret without good reason.
Reply:I don't know but thats nasty. lol

Dry brushing your teeth...?

I recently went to the dentist and she recommended that I try dry brushing - or putting toothpaste on your toothbrush but NOT wetting it, and then brushing your teeth like usual.

She said that many of her patients have had great success with this method because it does not "dilute the fluoride" in the toothpaste, thus increasing plaque removal.

Has anyone ever heard of this, or better yet do it? I can't really find anything about it on the web - it just seems like a dry brush would be painful/harsh on your gums...

Thanks

Dry brushing your teeth...?
It sounds a little weird but i would listen to your dentist. They are professionals and they know what they are doing. Good luck!!!
Reply:no just do it , it works i do it every day reply if you get this message....
Reply:Hmm, I've never heard that before either, but I'm no expert. I would say try it, and if you find your gums to get irritated, maybe try a brush with softer bristles or go back to brushing your teeth like normal
Reply:i do it all the time, it's not painful or harmful.
Reply:The fluoride in your gums is there to bond with the enamel on your tooth (the hard outer layer) i think your doctor is right in saying that it would be better to brush your teeth dry but you have to take into consideration how you brush your teeth.

A dry brush won't hurt your teeth as long as you don't put too much pressure on them. Even with a wet brush it's dangerous to brush your teeth too hard because it can cause you to hurt your tooth. You should brush for up to 2 minutes and should do it gently. Your teeth and gums should be fine.
Reply:sounds ok, it wouldn't be harsh, toothpaste is very safe stuff. i'll go do it right now, i'd love my teeth to be extra clean!
Reply:dry brushing doesnt hurt. The dentist probably has a point. A dry brush picks up more plaque than a wet brush. Wet stuff sticks to dry. Try it. If you dont like doing that then brush however you see fit.
Reply:I don't always put water on my tooth brush, mainly because it seems to clean better. If my teeth are sensitive or my mouth is dry I wet my tooth brush. Try it, you may like it.
Reply:Flossing is more important than the brushing. It doesn't matter. It is the matter of brushing your teeth and not the toothpaste that gets rid of the plaque.
Reply:Recently, my dental hygenist told me to do that same. So I tried it and my gums got really irritated. It felt like a rash! I didn't even brush hard...I use a soft brush and softly brush my teeth and gumline. The dry brush is way too harsh for the gums...but it didn't hurt my teeth at all. Same thing for my son. He says his gums were hurting and that he felt like he was getting a rash in his mouth (on his gums) so I told him to start wetting his brush again. It took a few days (during those days we were unable to brush our teeth properly because it was too painful) for our gums to heal but we will never dry brush again. I, personally, wouldn't recommend it.

I have been wet brushing all my life and I've never had a problem with plaque and I've only had a couple of cavities in my life. The only reason I listened to the dental hygenist was because she told me that dry brushing cleans out the gumline by getting rid of the bacteria that like to hang out there.

If you want to keep your teeth nice, strong, cavity free try the ACT flouride rinse. My previous dentist recommended it (I moved so had to change dentists) and I have been using it for over a year and it's wonderful. Right before we started using it,my son was getting a small cavity (it was barely forming...very very small) and after using it for a few months we went back to the dentist to get it checked and filled and it was GONE!!!!

I hope I helped and sorry for all the babbling!

Am i brushing my teeth to much??

i just got braces last week, and since then, ive been kindof obsessed with brushing my teeth

lol

i brush them about 4 times a day

is this harmful?

when i brush them i only brush for about a minute or so

and then i use ACT for kids bubblegum mouth wash

Am i brushing my teeth to much??
No its not harmful. I got my braces 3 weeks ago and im upsessed with brushing my teeth too!
Reply:This is a bit much but it's not too bad really. Brushing after every meal is advised. If you were brushing any more than 4 times id be a bit worried as the fluorine in the toothpaste erodes enamel.

I hope that mouthwash is sugar free!
Reply:I brush my teeth constantly, once an hour or so. I'm nearly 40 and they're all still there. I also floss, and at least one brush a day is dedicated to baking soda. So I know all about obsession in this area :( That's where we need the advice, not the dental hygiene!
Reply:No this is good for your braces keep up the good work!
Reply:Just make sure you are not brushing so hard that your gums bleed. That would be bad.
Reply:well with braces you should brush them after every meal...

Ive been brushing my teeth about 4 times a day for the past three months. yet no improvements in tooth color?

i use colgate and ive been going crazy lately and brushing my teeth in the morning, evening and after every meal.but my teeth seem to be the same color they were a while back. WTF I WANT WHITE TEETH.

Ive been brushing my teeth about 4 times a day for the past three months. yet no improvements in tooth color?
go to dentist,get bleached
Reply:Sounds like you need to use a tooth Whitening product as well. Brush them all you want, that won't make them any whiter - that just cleans them! Try using Colgates White Strips. Those work wonders. You can do that and it will whiten then three shades within a few days. I know because that's what I use!! :)
Reply:It has to do with what your drinking also. do you drink tea coffee, or soft drinks. They stain your teeth. And if already stained only professional products will make them whiter.Good luck. And talk to a dentist to much brushing is really bad for you it takes enamel off your teeth.
Reply:go get your teeth stained white at a dentist!

get expensive toothpaste

i dont think how ever many times you brush your teeth a day will help just care for them now and just brush em 2 time!
Reply:You need to get your teeth bleached. Your tooth may also be rotten or almost rotten. In that case, you can get it replaced. But try the bleaching first.
Reply:First of all, you could be doing things to destroy your enamel. Don't brush so much or too hard. Drink citrus fruits with a straw especially lemon products. Go buy Stevia Powder at health food store and make a paste to smear on gums and teeth and spit out. Get toothpaste at health food store that will remineralize the teeth. Make sure you are getting enough minerals in your diet with the proper food or supplements. Cut out coffee and soda's completely. Dont' smoke anything.

You can whiten with products all you want but it will just go back to being discolored if your teeth lost it's emamel.
Reply:Maybe you can go to a dentist and get professional whitening if you are so upset about it. There's also those whitening strips I've seen commercials for. Brushing your teeth is mostly for cleaning them, not whitening (mostly). There's a difference. Plus if you drink coffee or smoke, that F's it all up.
Reply:Brushing really doesn't whiten teeth so much, even if you buy whitening toothpaste.

Ask your dentist. They have certain processes like Rembrandt that will whiten your teeth.

There are also devices which will whiten your teeth, but you have to keep them in your mouth all day... If you've ever seen celebrities teeth -- and have been impressed with how white they are, that's not from brushing. They are actually getting their teeth professionally treated.
Reply:get whitening stripes and once their nice and white make sure they stay clean.
Reply:Your teeth just mite be there natural color. Not every one has white teeth there are natural degrees of yellow in some teeth and all the Whiting will not help. Ask a Dentist if this is your case?
Reply:Keep in mind that over-brushing is not good for your teeth. Twice a day, plus a gentle cleaning after meals, is all that is needed to keep particles from building up and to fight plaque.

As for discolored teeth, that's normally due to stains on the enamel, and you'd need to do more than just brush to eliminate them. A dentist will have the most efficient (and fastest) way to whiten your teeth, but there are many over-the-counter products which you can find to whiten teeth.

Your choice, but I'd suggest the dentist.
Reply:Tooth paste doesn't really turn your teeth white. Use baking soda or water mixed with peroxide. Using those SEPARATELY will help your teeth to whiten...make sure you don't use them together. :o) Good luck.

Will brushing your teeth more frequently in a day make my teeth whiter? (Would help you're medically backedup)

Ok well I want to know if brushing my teeth more frequently every day (like more than morning and night) will promote whiter teeth? or would it be in vein? If you are any way sure of your answers with medical knowledge, that'd be great, if you could include a link, even better! Thanks!

Will brushing your teeth more frequently in a day make my teeth whiter? (Would help you're medically backedup)
No it will not help whiten your teeth as the dinginess is caused by stains. You need a stain remover aka something like crest white strips. Nurse for 33 years here. Think of it as your clothes............if you keep washing them the stain you got from dinner will still be there but if you use a stain remover that will help get the stain out that washing alone won't. Same thing with your teeth.
Reply:You can brush your teeth up to 3 times a day. It's best to do it after breakfast, lunch and dinner with cold water and a good brand toothbrush. Use a safe tooth paste, I mean safe as in a regular tooth paste that combats all oral issues (bad breath, discolouration, sensitivity) personally, I use Colgate 3 in 1.

It's not just brushing your teeth that will give them a healthy whiteness but also flossing daily (only once as you don't want to damage your gums) and use a strong mouthwash after snacking or drinking fizzy drinks or smoking cigarettes/cigars. The more acidic food and drink you consume, the more discoloured your teeth will be.

Hope I've helped!

Am i brushing my teeth too much? can i scrape the enamel off?

i brush my teeth in the morning, afternoon and night, and sometimes in between like when i eat a snack or something.

is this hurting my teeth in anyway? brushing them too much?

Seriously this has become like an OCD thing, were if i dont feel like i brushed them right, i have to again.

Am i brushing my teeth too much? can i scrape the enamel off?
i have a great alternative!

every time i went to the upstairs bathroom I used to brush my teeth like obsessively,

and then i got a bad tooth, and got my mum to buy me some mouthwash,

it takes time to find the one you like!

but once you have you wont look back!

brush your teeth two or three times a day still, but when you have done that and want to do it again use mouthwash!
Reply:You can certainly wear away the enamel, especially at the gumline as it is so thin there. Just make sure you use a soft brush, ordinary (not whitening or abrasive) toothpaste, and hold your toothbrush gently in your hand when brushing (ie, you should be able to hold it very gently with two fingers). Also, dont scrub from side to side, do more of a circular motion. Good luck! Stop scrubbing so hard!
Reply:Brushing too much is very helpful to your oral health. And will not hurt ur teeth anyway, BUT you have to brush them in a proper way with a proper brush.

If you brush with a wrong technique (Even if u brush once a day) then you will harm your teeth. But brushing many times but correctly will be benefecial.
Reply:brushing too many times is not good for your enamel. Brush twice a day is enough. Concentrate in the nights. Do proper method, up %26amp; down movements. Use floss before brushing.
Reply:Although the teeth look very strong, they can wear away just like anything. I suggest using a 'medium' brush and moving it around your teeth in regular circular motions. The number of times you clean your teeth a day is up to you, and will cause you no damage as long as you don't press too hard. If you think you suffer from OCD, you have to understand that this is a disorder, and it CAN be treated. Don't be afraid to get a medication for it, however these are not 'over-the-counter' and you will therefore have to see a doctor.

What is the importance of brushing one's teeth?

I only brush my teeth about once or twice a month at the moment. I am homeschooled, I'm a 16 year-old male, I do not have any real life friends or even acquaintances (I like it that way, don't ask). I have a job, but it doesn't require me to come into contact with other people, and I seldom ever come into contact with my family. As such, I'm not around other people often enough for them to notice or care about my lack of hygiene.

The aforementioned facts about my life are just that. About MY life. I'm not asking you to critique my lifestyle, nor am I asking you for social help. I'm asking you one thing, and only one thing - What is the importance of brushing my teeth?

You see to me, brushing my teeth just takes up a lot of time that doesn't need to be spent on it. Besides, I'm not too fond of the sensation of brushing my teeth.

I'd love to hear otherwise, but my current understanding of dental hygiene is as 'tis.

What is the importance of brushing one's teeth?
Start brushing your teeth now man. You have to do it even if you hate it keep your teeth clean and be healthy.

You should brush your teeth twice a day. Brushing your teeth helps to remove plaque which causes tooth decay and can lead to gum disease.

Always use a soft bristled toothbrush with a toothpaste that contains fluoride. Make sure that the toothbrush fits inside of your mouth so that you can easily reach all areas. When brushing, use gentle back and forth strokes, brushing all sides of the teeth. Always brush your tongue to remove any bacteria and keep your breath fresh.
Reply:It sounds like you've never been to a dentist before if you have to ask this question.

Your mouth is full of bacteria and the food that you eat can damage your teeth. Brushing your teeth cleans out the food particles in your mouth (you should also clean your tongue and the sides). If you're brushing your teeth properly, then the brushing action also massages your gums.

Aside from tooth damage, you can get gingivitis which peels back your gums and leaves more of the tooth exposed. You can also end up having your teeth fall out.

Look around the internet for stuff regarding dentistry and you'll see all the problems that you can get if you don't take care of your teeth.

Either you must fancy the idea of having no teeth by the time you're 30, or you like the idea of spending a TON of money for all of the dental work you'll need later.
Reply:For a few reasons:

1. To save yourself from a LOT of pain (you will eventually either not be able to eat or lose all your teeth)

2. To save yourself alot of money --- insurance only goes so far.

3. I'm almost willing to guarantee that you will one day have a job that will involve people--you're only 16, you will have a lot more jobs.

4. If you ever want a girlfriend (or boyfriend, whatever)

5. And if none of that convinces you, consider that by not brushing your teeth, you are letting a ton of bacteria enter your blood stream, people have gotten heart problems and health problems from not brushing their teeth.

Anyways, you will learn on your own eventually and will have regrets, but it's your own life.

Brushing your teeth and gagging while pregnant... what worked for you?

I don't seem to be able to brush my back molers without almost throwing up... every single time. When I was prego with my first, I would constantly gag when I reached for the back teeth... so I didn't get them as good. Wouldn't you know it, I got a cavity and needed a root canal after I delivered. I'm now prego with my second, and it's even worse than the first time around. I've tried baby toothbrushes, changing toothpaste, even brushing with very little or no toothpaste... and nothing has worked. Any of you had success with a different method? I'm beginning to feel pain again in one of my molars... and dread the fact that I may have another cavity.

Brushing your teeth and gagging while pregnant... what worked for you?
I used a lot of scope- and actually, chewed a lot of trident gum to help clean my back teeth better without gagging myself.
Reply:Same thing for me, I would rinse my mouth with very minty mouthwash, then brush, then rinse again, I would still gag a little bit but the mouthwash took away the nauseousness that came with it.
Reply:Tough one i suffer the same way....but i think it was the toothpaste...have you tried not to use toothpaste? How about a quick rinse with some mouthwash? Sorry dear but there is no magic solution...
Reply:try chewing more gum.. sugarless after brushing as much as you can the sticky of the gum will pull off the plaque and the mint may soothe your nasea
Reply:I used a water pick, mouthwash and floss
Reply:good
Reply:I'm thinking if you had less of a gag reflex you might not find yourself pregnant right now. You know, more options and all. You might want to work on desensitizing that ticklish tonsil of yours soon after you deliver your current bundle of joy so you don't bust out another package 9 months later.

Why would brushing your teeth make you throw up?

For 3 weeks now I have been throwing up when brushing my teeth almost every morning. I don't swallow any toothpaste and I don't brush to far back, sometimes I don't even get to brushing the back teeth. I don't clean my tongue either. It only happens in the morning. Thanks

Why would brushing your teeth make you throw up?
It could be a hyperreactive gag reflex. Could be due to postnasal drip overnight build up at the back of the throat. That'll do it too and only in the mornings.
Reply:I hear ya there. It would seem that for some pregnancy is the answer to everything. Report It

Reply:Strong gag reflex? Or maybe you're thinking about it too much.
Reply:try getting tested for diabetes....or change you toothpaste...maybe the taste is wrong for you..
Reply:strange chill out dude
Reply:Well, I just started using Yahoo Questions and have no idea how to check if the person asking the question is a lady or man. I had the exact same problem once, it lasted for almost four and a half months. Instead of using toothpaste I switched and started using just water with a bit of baking soda mixed in. (as my dentist recommended) For me, the reason behind it was my pregnancy. I'm not sure if this applies to you..
Reply:It is a bad gag reflex....i have it. You can put salt on your tongue before you brush....that's what we do when I have a dentist appointment. Works everytime....I dunno why, but it does.
Reply:I do to !!! never new why I do ,Kind of weired i have no problem giving head , but put a tooth brush in my mouth in the morning and I'll chuck .
Reply:do you throw up after gargling? cause if yes, then i would say you have a strong gag reflex. but if you vomit WHILE brushing your teeth its either the brand or the taste of the toothpaste is not right for you or it could be psychological, you keep on thinking that you would throw up..

Brushing your teeth - Have you had this issue . . .?

I am 16 1/2 weeks Preggo - about a week ago I have started throwing up during brushing my teeth. I never threw-up in the beginning of PG.

I have tried brushing w/ just water - it is just not as clean. I have tried using only a tiny bit of toothpaste - again, I get sick. I also tried looking for Natural pastes that may not foam up as much - but didn't find one that said anything about it.

Any ideas? Did this happen to you?

It just makes my mornings so rough! I have to pull myself together to teach 18 5-yr olds!!

Advise is welcome :-)

Thanks.

Brushing your teeth - Have you had this issue . . .?
I had this problem as well. I found that Tom's of Maine makes a gel that does not foam and has a mild mint flavor. I also do not brush my tongue or spend a lot of time on the back molars:)
Reply:It happen with me with all my pregnancies. I guess it just your body being overly sensitive. There really wasn't anything I could do about it. I just put a little paste on the brush and was careful. Good luck!!!!
Reply:My gag reflex was definately stronger during pregnancy. Maybe it's the actual toothbrush and not the paste! This may sound silly... But make sure you stand in front of the bathroom sink whike brushing. Moving around while brushing always made me sick.
Reply:Wow- thought I might have been the only one! Brushing my teeth in my first trimester was horrid. I hardly could keep my gag reflex in check!

Possibly a rinse? Try children's toothpaste as well. Use small amounts at a time and try not to brush the tongue. (that always did it for me!)

Otherwise you'll just have to trudge on through. Wonderful thing pregnancy symptoms can be? right?
Reply:This happened to me as well. I found I had to brush my teeth when I was the least likely to feel nauseous, for me this was after eating because I always felt better when my stomach wasn't empty. Sometimes I avoided paste and just used water. Try not to put the brush too far back as this can trigger the gagging. Also, brush quick and then rinse and move on with your day and you may be able to avoid throwing up by not focusing on it. It worked for me. Good luck, I know it's not fun.
Reply:Oh my! It's good to hear I'm not alone lol! I got a very intense aversion to toothpaste for my 2nd month, it was exactly as you describe it. (Never once had morning sickness either)That darn paste makes you just loose your breakfast! I no longer have this problem as it seemed to pass just as many other food aversions did. (Now at 5 months)

To deal with it, I put a bit of mouthwash in my mouth and then brushed my teeth with it in there. It seemed to be less of a problem then, still a bit gaggy, but not nearly as bad. Give it a try (you really have to squeeze your lips together! lol) and see if it helps you get through this patch!

Congrats by the way!
Reply:Awww...happened to me too, I feel for you!!

The only remedy I had was to try and keep my mind off of it...I would try and listen to music that I liked (do you have an mp3 player or something? put on your favorite song...half way through start to brush). Or I would brush while doing something, like making the bed, or shaving my legs. As odd as it seems, if I didn't think about gagging, it helped stave it off.

If you start to gag, take a break, and get back to it :)

This is a hard one to solve...best of luck!!!
Reply:yes and all I can say is it will pass. good luck
Reply:Yea I have been having the same probable, I haven't throw up yet but it makes me gag a lot!! I thought it was so weird at first because I never had this before I was pregnant and I wondered if anyone else having this problem to so I guess I'm not the only one haha but I haven't found any solutions for this yet :[

23 weeks pregnant
Reply:it happened to me but not for long because 2 weeks after throwing up because of the toothpaste i had a miscarriage.
Reply:Vomiting

Pregnancy hormones soften the ring of muscle that keeps food inside the stomach. Gastric reflux (regurgitating food or drink) or the vomiting associated with morning sickness can coat your teeth with strong stomach acids. Repeated reflux and vomiting can damage tooth enamel and increase the risk of decay. Suggestions include:

Don’t brush your teeth immediately after vomiting. While the teeth are covered in stomach acids, the vigorous action of the toothbrush may scratch the tooth enamel.

Rinse your mouth thoroughly with plain water.

Follow up with a fluoridated mouthwash.

If you don’t have a fluoridated mouthwash, put a dab of fluoridated toothpaste on your finger and smear it over your teeth. Rinse thoroughly with water.

Brush your teeth an hour after vomiting.

thats just somethings but u might want to use mouthwash
Reply:I had this same problem. I threw up the entire nine months of my pregnancy and it wrecked havoc on my teeth. I am in the process of getting 8 cavities filled, and I had only ever had two before I was pregnant! You can brush with just plain ol baking soda if you need to, maybe that will be easier. Please try to get through it, and always brush your teeth when you get up for a midnight snack (this will occur at least once a night in the later months). I wish I had followed this advice 8 cavities and one beautiful 17 month old baby girl ago!!
Reply:Oh yes!!! I asked this question about a week ago...lol. I just brush them because it would be gross not to but I end up throwing up everytime. It sucks really bad but what do you do.
Reply:Yes, with my first one. It was awful. I would brush my teeth 4 or 5 times before I would be able to brush them with without being sick. Try not eating before you brush. You can also try drinking a Coke with all of the fizz stirred out of it before you brush. It will help settle your tummy.
Reply:Yes, you're not alone! :) I felt like I was having a gag reflex every time I tried to brush my teeth, and I asked my aunt about it. She shared she'd also experienced this and said it was "just one of those things".

The good news... it DID go away. I'm not sure if it was the toothbrush or the toothpaste, but I got through it and it didn't last too long into the pregnancy.
Reply:Oh god, if I think about how sick brushing my teeth made me in the first trimester even now at 36+5 weeks I can make myself sick. It was the action of the brush in my mouth. What helped me was plaque removing mouthwash and there are gums out there that have microbeads that sort of brush while you chew.

Of course after the issue with brushing my teeth passed I went to see the dentist and the hygienist said that you can get these rubber things that go on your finger to brush with, you don't even need toothpaste on them, they make them for people who travel/camp and you just throw them out when done. Also I have a special brush for flossing that I found I could use for brushing my teeth but it takes a long time to brush 32 teeth with what looks like a stiff paintbrush from a paint by number kit LOL.

I think that if I am blessed with child #2 in the future I am going to try a smaller brush since it seemed to be the brush I had the issue with. It doesn't help that I naturally have a strong gag reflex, pregnancy just made it worse. It's been torture these last 7 months just swallowing the prenatals and the iron pills. And in a few short weeks I have to confront my needle phobia for the IV and the epidural . No one ever said pregnancy was easy but I know it will be worth it!!

Anyone have a hard time brushing thier teeth during pregnacy?

im 8 weeks pregnant and havent had no morning sickness even when i was pregnant before no morning sickness! but i cant even brush my teeth as good every morning because i always feel like throwing up because of brushing my teeth and my tounge thats the only time when i feel like throwing up! is there other woman out there that do or have the same feeling when brushing thier teeth? lol thank god that we brush our teeth in the bathroom so we can be rite next to the toliet just incase we do throw up!

Anyone have a hard time brushing thier teeth during pregnacy?
YES ME !!!!! I do go threw morning sickness sometimes but as soon as I go to brush my teeth there is no sometimes lol sux .. but at the end its all worht it lol congrats ..
Reply:yes, invest in some children's toothpaste, something without a mint flavor to it, it worked for me
Reply:My last pregnacy was like that, I used to dread having to brush my teeth and it lasted the entire pregnancy, as soon as I gave birth it was gone, it's just one of those preganay things.
Reply:It is important to keep our teeth and gums healthy when pregnant. Even if you don't brush as well as you should, at least you're trying. I used a kid's fruity toothpaste to make it easier. Also, try a kids brush since a smaller head might make it easier to brush.

Good luck!!
Reply:There's no logic. It shouldn't be a problem if done normally.
Reply:yes.for me too.use some flavaured toothpaste.
Reply:I gagged the whole 9 months.
Reply:YES!

Brush with just water if you have to and floss. Try a kid's toothpaste and see if that helps. Don't be surprised if your gums bleed easily, it is all part of the pregnancy package.

Good luck!
Reply:Stop COMPLAINING, no one want to hear it!
Reply:I feel your pain. With all 3 of my kids, I gagged every time the toothbrush hit my mouth. I finally got it down, though... Try putting the toothbrush in your mouth with just water, brush for a minute, get your tongue, then (using as little toothpaste as possible), use the paste. The most important thing for me was to never let the toothpaste get to the back of my throat, so I had to spit a lot.

You can use plain baking soda to brush your teeth... pour a little in the palm of your hand and dip a dampened toothbrush in it. It helps, but the taste is awful.

Good luck!
Reply:Feel for ya!! I tried changing toothpastes and everything else listed here, but nothing has helped me. The only time i get that gaggy nauseated feeling is when i do the inside of my back teeth.. nothing to do with flavor or anything. I've asked around (a Dr. and a midwife) and all they said was brush as good as you can in the morning without throwing up, and then do it later in the day. This has helped me! If I just do what I can do, then wait until after lunch and do it real good, i usually don't get nauseated.

Brushing my doggies Teeth?

My dog is a small dog and she is out side on nice days for about 5 hours a day with my 2 other bigger dogs ( they get along great) but any way my dog had REALLY bad breath i checked her teeth and i found some nasty stuff i got it out but here are my ?'s

while i was brushing her teeth bleed why?

and is it okay to use childrens tooth paste?

Brushing my doggies Teeth?
Your dog probably needs it's teeth cleaned by her veterinarian, once he removes the tartar and plaque you will be able to safely brush her teeth on a daily basis. I would have your vet check your dogs teeth to see what he thinks needs to be done. Dirty teeth in both dogs and cats does create other health problems as well as tooth loss, so please have your vet take a look. No it is not safe to use childrens toothpaste or human toothbrushes. Your vet most probably sells pet toothpaste and brushes. Good Luck.
Reply:Hope everything works out well. Be Well. Report It

Reply:No don't use children's tooth paste! They make tooth paste for dogs you can buy at petco or petsmart. the gums are bleeding like ours do when we have gingivitis. you need to take her into the vet for a dental cleaning and then start brushing her teeth every day. They actually like it. It tastes good to them.
Reply:first off the teeth bleea because it is the gums way of showing damage it isisnt always a bad thing by them bleeding it is making the gums repair them selves second go to the vet and get dogs toothpaste it is much better for them and third to avoid having to brush so often ask your vet about CET chews if they carry them or you can go with hills science diet T/D food it cleans the teeth and is nutririonaly balanced
Reply:Check out the articles on this page, they should give you some great tips and information.

Reply:you don't need to brush them with a tooth brush buy tridents for dogs

when you brush her her teeth bleed because u are brushing her too much

on dog its not write use dog pest
Reply:don't use human toothpaste. secondly if they bleed its probably due to sensitive gums...just we can have...go see a vet
Reply:i would go to your vet and get the dogs teeth cleaned and then you can brush the teeth with dog tooth paste
Reply:use toothpaste made for dogs, and you can also try giving her Greenies which cleans the teeth and freshens breath and they are made for all size dogs.

Why is brushing my teeth so bad for me?

My dentist says that I brush so hard that the bristles are going into my gums and under my teeth and are actualyl pushing my teeth outwards..should I stop brushing my teeth and let them relax alittle bit??

Why is brushing my teeth so bad for me?
Sounds weird!!!

Buy a softer toothbrush,

or get an electric one that you can hold on your teeth without exerting any pressure.

you don't want to damage your gums.

very weird about pushing your teeth out though. That sounds like rubbish!
Reply:You need a softer toothbrush.
Reply:no, just don't brush so hard :)
Reply:Rotten teeth are so hot right now.
Reply:No problem, quit brushing and move to England...
Reply:ask your d€ntist to pr€scrib€ to your sp€cial kind of brush
Reply:i disagree with the dentist because if you dont brush your teeth,it will cause other complications like tooth decay, and many other so i would recommend you to keep brushing but dont brush hard because if you brush hard you will dammage your outer layer of your teeth and then later you will damge your middle layer of your tooth.

Tips for brushing a toddlers teeth?

My daughter is 16 months old and she refuses to let me help her brush her teeth. She loves to hold her toothbrush and brush them herself but when I try to help her she clamps her mouth shut. She doesn't do a very good job and I'm not sure what I can do to get her teeth clean. I read somewhere to use wet steralized gauze pads (in addition to her brushing) to wipe off the plaque/tartor from her teeth. It won't for one or two times, but then she bit my finger really hard. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Tips for brushing a toddlers teeth?
At least she attempts to clean her own so things are going in the right direction. Clean your teeth at the same time as her showing her the different movements and areas to brush so she can copy you. These are only milk teeth and onluy have to last a few years so a few month of poor brushinf will not matter too much.

More important is diet - not too much juice or squash - sweets ans cakes in moderation, fizzy drinks an occadional treat - as these eat away at the enamel. Unflavoured Milk and water are harmless to teeth.

She should also visit the dentist with you so she can get used to having her teeth checked at an early age.
Reply:You just have to do it. My 18 month odl didnt want us to brush his either. But the deal is, WE brush them first and THEn he brushes.
Reply:Try those spin brushes, they pretty much do the work for you. Then, you can help her move the toothbrush around without sticking your fingers in her mouth. Be sure that you are using toothpaste that has no floride in it since she is too young to understand the concept of spitting it out.
Reply:16 month love to brush her teeth. Every time any one in the house brushes she must. I like the deal First I brush then you. But another thing is you brush mommys teeth and I'll brush yours. She may like that game. Also try to get her to moch your movements with the tooth brush. Good practice and mine loves that game. Also maybe brush some one elses teeth and praise them then try your daughters and giver her as much or more. Good luck
Reply:I asked my doctor when my son was 2 if I should be brushing his teeth, and he said that there was no need. Children at that age can't spit either, so anything that was "brushed" would end up getting swallowed.

Unless you are feeding her a ton of sugar, in my opinion, she doesn't need to brush her teeth at that age, and she certainly shouldn't be using toothpaste.

If you think about it, humans weren't created to have to brush their teeth, so if you don't feed your child junk and keep the food you are giving her natural, you wont have to worry about brushing her teeth for a while.
Reply:I give our 14mo old the toothbrush and tell him it's time to brush his teeth - in the meantime I fill up a little cup with a few sips of water and then take over. I brush his teeth while "singing" to him about brushing his teeth. He does have a short attention span since he'd rather play with all the things on the bathroom counter instead, so we brush thoroughly but quickly. If he clamps or bites the brush, I try to make him laugh by calling him my little monster so that he opens his mouth and try again! When I'm done, he gets to drink from the "big boy cup" which is kind of his reward, so to speak.

With anything else at this age, repetition and consistency are key. Our next step may be to try a kiddie toothpaste, too. Good luck :)
Reply:just gently squeeze her cheeks together to make fish lips %26amp; force it in there, it never hurt my sons %26amp; also tell her that she can brush when your finished. Also do this at her level. After I had finished I gave my boys there brush so they can have a go %26amp; at first they tried to brush %26amp; ended up chewing on it %26amp; now after watching me brush my teeth they are getting much better %26amp; I really dont need to do much now.
Reply:let her chew on the toothbrush for fun. i let my son think it is one of his toys and not a chore,. he just chews on it all day and cleans his teeth. the more you force it on her, the worse it might get.
Reply:My daugher is 18 months and we're going through the same thing. What works for us is I sing the ABC's and during the song I have to brush her teeth, but after I'm done singing it then she can brush her teeth. Not only does it work but she's picking up her ABC's :)
Reply:Well even if her teeth don't get that clean, remember she'll have another pair coming when she's older. But it's good to start practicing dental hygiene at an early age
Reply:my daughter is now 2 and used to let me brush her teeth then went through a phase where she wouldnt let me near her mouth with a brush - she had to do it herself! now when we get up in the morning i put toothpaste on her brush and give it to her and she trys to brush em and then i will give em the once over. if you sit down in front of her then she should try and copy you and learn fairly quickly how to brush a bit better. worked for mine. all the best!
Reply:my 22mths used to be like that too. He is excited about it and wants to explore and so i let him do it himself. Guess he got tired of it already and he allows me brush it now. And i agrees with the 2nd answer, get those battery operated spin brush. It will make things easy.
Reply:Oh Man do i know what you mean~

I have a 22month old and Every day its a battle, I usually brush teeth after her bath while she's wrapped in a towel, (that way her arms are wrapped in the towel and she can grab the tooth brush)

I lay her across my lap and wait for her to open her mouth, she will refuse at first but after a few moments she'll start crying and i just have to brush as fast as i can, I really hate to do it though, She screams bloody murder the whole time and its not fun, but you must keep those little teeth healthy~
Reply:Let her do it herself at first and then just say "let mummy finish off please" then she has done it herself but you are making sure that it is done properly. She just wants to be a big girl and do it herself. Either that or you wil have to cheat and wait until she is asleep and give them a quick scrub before she wakes up!!! o/j Hope this helps!

In the morning, should i be brushing my teeth right when i wake up, or after i eat breakfast?

i went to the dentist yesterday and i was brushing too hard before and had to get two teeth bonded.

im thinking it might be also b/c i'm brushing too much maybe?

right now right when i wake up i brush my teeth.. then after i finish breakfast i brush my teeth again.

is there really any point to brushing my teeth right when I wake up if i brush them again after eating breakfast?

thanks

In the morning, should i be brushing my teeth right when i wake up, or after i eat breakfast?
Brush after breakfast, not before, but an important point is if you drink orange or grapefuit juice in the morning you should wait at least 30 mins before brushing or avoid drinking juice in the morning. The acid makes the enamel soft and if you brush straight after it can be damaged.
Reply:No, you should only brush your teeth once in the morning, ideally after you've had breakfast.
Reply:I just do it after bfast. Gets rid of the coffe smell. I know you can suffer from enamel erosion from chronic overbrushing.
Reply:Why would you want to brush your teeth before breakfast...doesn't it make it taste funny?
Reply:well when you wake up you have bacteria in your mouth. So i say brush after u wake up then use mouth wash after breakfast
Reply:brush after breakfast...try to think of relaxing things while brushing too.
Reply:brush after brekie, bit pointless brushin before eatin then brushing again
Reply:do it after breakfast. I would switch toothbrushes. I would switch to one with soft bristles and brush each section for 30 section
Reply:just before breakfast and befor bed.. dont do it too often and dont do it too hard cuz it may bad for ur gums.. also if ur gums r really sour then u should temporarily quite brushing ur teeth and use another routine which is use ur finger with the powder instead of paste.. and after that use the mouth wash gums (found on medical stores) to clean ur teeth completely.. i hope that helps...
Reply:Dental and gum diseases (like cavities) usually aren't caused by food particles in your teeth; they are caused by the sticky substance that microbes (mostly bacteria) deposit on your teeth. This yucky stuff is called plaque (pronounced 'plack') and the microbes use it to stick to your teeth, to keep from sliding right off your teeth ... think of the way barnacles stick to the hull of a boat.

If you are cleaning off the plaque once in every 24 hours with a thorough brushing and flossing, that is adequate. More often than that and it can contribute to problems like worn enamel and receding gum line. It doesn't' matter whether you do it before or after meals, as long as it's once each day.

If you want to remove visible crumbs or 'feel fresh' more often than that, do a light brushing with a soft brush or just use mouthwash.
Reply:Brush after breakfast, the food particles in the grooves of your teeth CAN cause decay...its better to brush the food out and be safe.
Reply:I brush when I get up because of morning breath and don't eat breakfast .. but, if I did , then I would gargle before and then brush after breakfast.
Reply:Always brush after a meal duh. Brushing before eating is pointless because it is the food that decays your teeth!

How much is brushing your teeth 'too much'?

I'm a bit obsessed with brushing my teeth. I usually brush my teeth 6 times a day, and for each time I use 3 different tubes of toothpaste, and for each tube I brush them for like 3 minutes. I also whiten them every other day with whitening strips. Is this bad for my teeth? I started doing this two weeks ago, and nothing bad has happened... and my teeth are a lot whiter.

How much is brushing your teeth 'too much'?
Remember that brushing and whitening remove microscopic quantities of the protective layer of enamel which protects your teeth from damage and disease. Over time, excess brushing and whitening will undoubtedly do your teeth harm.

Brush after meals only, and whiten at most once a week.
Reply:That is alittle crazy. You are only suppose to brush your teeth three times a day, but if you want to waste that much toothpaste that's your choice.
Reply:That is a lot. As long as you brush them throughly and for 2 min for 3 times a day you should be fine. Also, flossing and mouthwash are grat to use also.

Using the whitening strips is good too but using them too much can take slowly take away the enamal (protective tooth covering) and make your teeth week and brittle. So be careful with that.

Just brushing and using the whitening mouth wash works really good.
Reply:Just remember to brush in large SOFT circles. Do not try and scrub your teeth, all that will do is cause recession of the gum tissue and abrasion of the actual tooth down by the gum line. Try not to obcess anything done out of moderation can be harmful over time.

Brushing kids teeth!!!!?

My son will be 2 nex week and I try to brush his teeth every morning but he always eats up all the toothpaste when I start brushing his teeth, is this harmful, is there an alternative.

Brushing kids teeth!!!!?
At two, all he needs is a tiny smear of toothpaste on the toothbrush. Put a small dot of toothpaste and use a finger to almost wipe it all off. Technically you don't need to use any toothpaste especially if your tap water contains fluoride. In addition to brushing his teeth every morning, you should also try and do it at night as well. Don't let him brush unsupervised until he is about 7 or 8.
Reply:if you are using toddler toothpaste there is no harm. just let him brush without toothpaste, the point is to get him used to brushing everyday.
Reply:not harmful but usetoddler toothpaste and let him use it himself. he will eventually learn on his own.
Reply:It can be harmful (I think), if he swallows it for a long period of time (like after 10 years). If he's two, I suggest that you buy special 'kid' toothpaste that is less harmful, and sing a song while doing it, so he's not focused on having something shoved in his mouth.

Will brushing my teeth break my fast?

Will brushing my teeth break my fast? and i have been bushing m teeth when fasting but not sure if brushing your teeth would break your fast.

Will brushing my teeth break my fast?
No, as long as you don't swallow intentionally :)

It's mustahab to brush your teeth anyway, so i'm pretty certain it's ok.
Reply:No its hygene, not eating
Reply:Not unless you go bottoms-up with the entire tube of toothpaste.

Oh, but then you'd die anyways. Or get very ill.

Its up to you.
Reply:No, breaking your fast involves eggs, bacon, donuts, coffee, pancakes, stuff like that.
Reply:Do you actively eat toothpaste? Probably not, being that you are still alive. When you breathe you take in particles and things related to food (and alot of things you shouldn't eat either, but let's not worry about that just now). A few particles that got in your stomach accidentally...I think God (Allah, YVHV, pick your flavor) can forgive.
Reply:No, please do, while fasting , ones breath stinks.
Reply:Fasting is a religious superstitious. It doesn't matter what you do in concern to fasting. Fasting does nothing for the Christian follower, nor anyone else for that matter.
Reply:Go ahead and brush your teeth. Just don't swallow the toothpaste.

Limit to brushing your teeth?

Is there a limit to brushing your teeth? I brush my teeth like 3 or 4 times a day and I was just worndering if I was brushing to mutch.... if theres a limit i will brush up to that limit.. I think I might be addicted to brushing... hmm.... anyway please tell me if theres a limit or somthing thanks xx

Limit to brushing your teeth?
I know the dentists recommends atleast twice a day. But I heard no more than about 3 times a day. I think you are fine with brushing 3-4 times a day. Just no more than that because you may wear down the enamel on your teeth or gums. That's what I was told. If you are worried about brushing too much, I would say atleast 2-3 times and then floss after each meal and that should be enough.
Reply:I think you have OCD.
Reply:I am a dentist, and I brush 4 times a day: Once after each meal, once before I go to sleep at night. I also floss once a day somewhere in there (usually after dinner).

This is the best regimen to prevent plaque buildup (which is what causes all the problems like cavities, gum disease, bad breath, etc).

If you brush with the right technique, you won't hurt your teeth or your gums. Next time you have your checkup, ask your dentist to show you the modified Bass technique.

Hope this helps.

Brushing your teeth too much?

can brushing your teeth too much mess up your teeth?

Because i've been brushing my teeth for like 6 hours straight aha.

not with toothpaste or anything.

just with water bc i have braces and braces stink.

Brushing your teeth too much?
Umm...I wouldn't brush that much...even with braces. Won't it wear down your enamal?

My orthodontist told me to brush 6 times a day though so I'm not quite sure.
Reply:Brushing to much can cause your gums to begin to recede. That means your gums can start to pull back toward the base of your mouth. This can cause loose teeth, just don't brush hard and maybe use mouth wash instead of brushing all the time.
